      this. you can better yourself OP. my dad was 350 pounds but finally turned his life around at 50 years old after a heart attack. Know he is 58 and a cut 220. He said his motivation is to be there for his grand kids.

    270 a year ago. I currently weigh 190 with significantly more muscle mass. I can do sets of 10 pull ups and run a 5k. You can do it. Stop being a b***h.

      This really needs to be said more often. After a year in therapy that did absolutely nothing but drain my wallet, I just started working more and filling my day with all kinds of activities and lo and behold I'm no longer depressed. I really hate this meme of "men need to go to therapy" because no, men just need to stop sitting in front of the computer 14 hours a day and go outside and lift things and build shit, gain confidence and get sweaty and tired. Best anti depressants I ever bought were a cordless drill and a circular saw.

        Memes aside, I'm deeply convinced that our obsession with pharmaceuticals is destroying men.
        I decided to be disciplined. I stopped playing video games and watching movies, and instead filled my time with books, lifting, cardio, mobility work for active recovery, and various projects around the house. I've never felt better. You simply need to decide to change, and have the discipline to do it. It is entirely intrinsic motivation, and every man has this within him.

          I'm with you, anon. I've been on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication and nothing ever worked. I tried smoking weed (lmao) and CBD and all kinds of shit and the only thing that ended up working was, as you said, CHOOSING to fill my life with more meaningful activities and actively deciding what to spend my time with, rather than just mindlessly consooming media.
          I asked my grandpa to show me how he does woodworking, and it's so fun and satisfying to look at a finished thing and go "I built that", even if at the moment it's nothing special because I'm still learning. Rather than spending time arguing with morons on the internet I've been volunteering a few times a week, and gaining actual satisfaction from knowing I'm helping people that are less fortunate.
          I'm still playing Elden Ring every now and then, but I uninstalled every single other game on my computer, playing CSGO or whatever doesn't even register as fun anymore, now it just feels like a complete waste of time. Like I'd play a few matches and then start thinking about the project I'm working on, and how I could be making progress on that instead. So I turn off the game and go do that.
          Our society has gotten really terrible at giving men direction in how to fill their lives with meaning. There's so many outreach programs for girls to get them into X and Y thing, and boys and young men are just left to fend for themselves because "oh they're men they have it better anyways", but without guidance young men are really struggling to figure out how to navigate the complexities of modern life, and are retreating into the comfort of anime, the internet and video games. It shouldn't be this way and I'm grateful I've figured out a path that works for me, and I'm proud of you for doing the same anon.

            Also want to point out that I had to ask my grandpa because my dad bounced a few years back and I have no idea where the frick he is. He never taught me shit, and just adds to the mountain of evidence that shitty fathers (and to a lesser extent mothers) are contributing to a lot of this aimlessness in young men.

    I looked like that at 32 years old 5,11 height male with 270 lbs. I started dieting by counting calories end of April. Less than 2 months later Im down 20 lbs. Feel great to be honest.

    Im just going to diet until I hit 180 lbs around January of next year and then Im going to hit the gym hard lifting weights and shit. Excercising or lifting when trying to lose ~100 lbs is pretty much a complete waste of time and will ruin your quality of life for no real benefit.

    Tldr learn to count calories.

      That's not true, I'm in the process of losing 100 lbs and I go on long walks every evening and I feel great. The important thing is to not tank your calorie intake so much that you end up feeling like shit with no energy, but that's nothing to do with exercise, and everything to do with not eating right.

          When you're losing weight from a high starting point like this guy was, regular walks are an excellent way to jumpstart that weight loss process. They might not be exercise _for you_, a metabolically healthy individual, but for a person in this position it is perfectly legitimate.

    Yes, it is anon. You actually have it easier in a way because you can bulk and cut at the same time due to pre-existing fat reserves. Calorie surplus becomes necessary once you get down to like 20%, but before that, it's possible to lose fat and gain muscle. Lift weights religiously, and fall in love with the iron.

    As you build the muscle underneath, your confidence will increase. I don't know your height or metabolism so I can't prescribe you a specific goal, but be sure to actually track all the calories that get in your mouth and eat in a serious deficit.

    You could also add intermittent fasting to the mix. Whatever is the best for preventing hunger, because hunger will, understandably, lead to you eating
