take the games / scoring out of the equation and crossfit is actually tolerable. Poor movements are incentivized so athletes can get the best score or time possible. And the "judges" either don't care or don't know to do anything about it.
Go to a box that is worth a shit and they'll have coaches that know what the frick they're talking about that will actively promote proper form.
Shit on the culture all you want, but if you do the movements/lifts properly, there is no better exercise than a well-programmed WOD.

It's like chiropractic. Get a good one, it can be positive. Get a shady one, it can wreck your body. The certification process doesn't discriminate and it's largely meme-of-the-moment.
Also, by focusing on reps per minute, necessarily form can become secondary. Lifting heavy things, form must be paramount especially if you're getting older, or you will hurt yourself. I've heard it referred to as cripple-fit.
If you've found a good place and a good group, hang onto it.
Because the majority of crossfit exercises are high rep while ISTards are notorious for following powershitter routines. They'd have a heart attack doing sets with more than 5 reps.
I do strongman instead of crossfit because I want to sizemog everyone, but crossfit is a great choice for people who want to be overall physically capable, it provides a good basis for other sports and outdoor hobbies, and it's second only to bodybuilding if your goal is just looking good on the beach.

This is why it doesn't work. CrossFit is exercise, not training, and there is no progressive overload so you never get better beyond 3 months of noob gains. Go to any CrossFit gym and you'll find it's 80% normies who can't squat 120 kg and haven't PRd a lift for ages. Because they don't train. The other 20% is roidtrannies.
Progressive overload is the only mechanism by which anyone ever gets appreciably stronger and CrossFit lacks it.
