Wish I lived somewhere that allowed for cycling to be the main mode of transport.

I live in The Netherlands and my car is my only mode of transport.
Frick bike homosexuals
Yeah but see even for cars the Netherlands is just better designed than most other first world countries
you can drive comfortably and not be stuck in traffic because of people on bicycles and using public transport, you dumb Black person
I doubt you re Dutch, you re probably a turkBlack person
go back to dumpert 85iq road worker
No all white. Used to cycle to school. After that years of public transport to uni which was even worse.
Got a company lease car at my first proper job and I'm never ever going back to public transport and bicycles. Only for leisure in weekends.
Ja broer. Ja kankerfietsers
Ik doe een scheutje azijn door m'n ruitenwisser vloeistof en gebruik het voor als wielrenners te lang voor me hebben gereden
yeah idk about all that but it's illegal in my country, too bad I'm cycling now
>Americans are so fat and foreign with the concept of someone not moving in a 2000 kg metal cow they cant even see it above their 2liter cups of coca cola and will hit it
>projecting everyone that doesn't agree with him into fat burgermutts

He's not wrong though.
It's blind target strawmanning and I'll mock it as such.
Can you give me any legitimate reason why one would be opposed to cycling infrastructure? Because if just looks like fat people who are afraid that their peers will get into better shape.
Adding a new lane would almost always mean eminent domain. State and municipal transport authorities maximize the use of the right of way they already have.
Who said anything about adding lanes?
This was obviously made by a sheltered, redditoid ignoramus, but i wouldn't have anything against this.
are you autistic man, do you think we don't need car transportation for anything? nobody reasonable is against more bike lanes or whatever the frick but not removing existing infrastructure for cars, have fun moving houses or anything big on your bike dude.
all the happy white liberals will get to brag about how much they love cycling around their diverse city with expanded bike lanes, while everything they need in live is delivered by pajeet immigrants in a ford transat van stuck in miserable traffic 14 hours a day delivering everything to their homes. Cycling is wonderful when you don't have to do any errands yourself, you can just take in the wonderful vibrant city while stopping at a local coffee shop for a $10 cup and use the free wifi to order more chinese plastic from amazon, hurry up pajeet I need that same day delivery.
see
e assist cargo bikes are over 10,000 here in Canada, this is from a dealer that sells those Kangoroo brand e bikes
If you don't buy one with batteries included, it's a lot cheaper.
5,000 pounds for the one on the top right is cheaper to you??? the others are over 2.000 pounds still lol
the plastic tent will be an additional 400 dollars sir
That post just shows how far behind most countries are. Where I live (not the netherlands, but europe), cargo bikes are more and more common. Even if you don't use a cargo bike you can just use a bike trailer. Not only is it similar to normal shopping, it is better: Ride up to shop in bike, disconnect the trailer, if it's one of those upright trailers that look like a golf bag go into the shop with it like those grandma trolleys, put your stuff in it (equivalent to a bag), reconnect to the bike, ride home.
>let me just haul 1 ton of avocados from the other side of the world bro, be there soon
Most american roads are way too wide, increases accident risk, add bike lane with a small curb inbetween, reduces accident risk, add bike lanes
They aren't wide enough to manage drainage. Bike lane morons never consider making the infrastructure last.
what? drainage goes in the curb moron
Not every road has a municipal storm sewer moron
>They aren't wide enough to manage drainage
maybe stop pissing and diarrheaing during your bike rides? fricking amerisharts can't waddle one mile without having to worry if their government provided them with any measures of disposing of their body waste
They took a 4 lane street by me and made it 2 lanes with bike lanes on either side and a designated turn lane all the way. It's infinitely better. Can always use the turn lane to pass a stopped bus, never have to sweat cyclists taking up a lane, lots of space between my car and dumbass pedestrians that feel the need to stand with their toes hanging off the curb.
>Build roads for cars everywhere
>Nobody rides bikes because it's too dangerous
>The one guy who does ride bikes tries to lobby local government for cycling infrastructure
>Local government says nobody uses them let's double down on cars
>Problem gets worse
>This doesn't even factor in the car companies actively sabotaging any alternative to car transportation
Everything is way too spread out for that in America
Pic related. Cyclists are literal cancers to society. They use our resources and don't contribute. I'm paying taxes on my car and on my gas every month. You homosexuals in spandex don't get to use MY money to build gay biking lanes.
>I'm paying taxes on my car and on my gas every month

Bike is by far the fastest method of transport in a city for distances of up to 10km.
Good luck finding your bike place, OP.
none of the roads have any space for people to ride here and public transport is also trash so i just gotta keep driving on streets that just get more and more congested and breathe in more and more polluted air
Lmfao not even close. City =/= new york, los angeles etc. There are plenty of cities (like 99,9999999% of them) that are not rush hour shitholes where it takes 2 hours to move a mile.
Bike is probably the fastest method of transportation up to like 1km in general.
Fat, slow, gay, American - reported to interpol
Cycling truly is kino, the Netherlands has their shit sorted out
I live in London where you're likely end up the wheel of a taxi, bus, or uber
There's not a single hill in the Netherlands, though. Try casually commuting by bike in Atlanta.
everyone loves to talk about netherlands bicycle infrastructure without mentioning netherlands is the flatest country on earth. I live in BC Canada and there's a 10% incline between my house and the Superstore.
Not reading any of that. FRICK YOU. Cyclists are a scourge up the Earth. Strangle yourself with your bike, you piece of fricking shit!
Even somewhere that allows that -- I've cycled about 5x as much miles as I've driven this year -- there's still a cager majority.
>Hey Stacy, anon from America is here. Is he going to the party with us?
>No anon is afraid of the cold and would much rather take the car
>Oh wow, I thought Americans were supposed to be strong and tough. Well luckely Hans also comes with his bike so he can cycle with us home tonight
>It's ok, everyone! He's dead!
People hate bikes because they live in pure garbage designed cities (practically most cities) that forces anyone who wants or has to ride a bike onto the road and fighting with cars
Which is shit, frick cyclists on roads but obviously urban planning monkeys are too brain dead to figure out there are alternatives to car centric development.
My favourite areas are where planning boomers make "walkable zones" but they designed it for people to drive to this area, walk/cycle around a bit then drive back home.
It is illegal to build cities and livable places built around humans in most of North America anon. Look up how moronic zoning laws are.
>Minimum parking requirements creating huge concrete gaps between business
>Minimum yard plots and distances from roads creating overly wide suburbs
>Suburbs in general being the only type of housing you're legally allowed to build
And so.. so much more. It's written into law that you HAVE to build car centric, insolvable, overpriced, inefficient developments.
Its not just America like that anymore
Boomer planning has spread, then they start thinking maybe it wasn't a good idea and make some pathetic alternative and call it "new urban planning"
Its all so tiresome
Much like oil companies "embracing green technologies and the environment", it's a thin veneer of greenlwashing. The VAST majority of residential development is still R-31 housing. You have a couple of somewhat walkable places getting built, but it's usually only very small spots along major stroads, which defeats the purpose of a small quiet spot. It's a Ponzi scheme and nobody wants to fully make the switch because there is still a frick load of money pumped into keeping the shitty system in place. Lobbyists make so much money because people need oil and vehicles to move around. The cost of infrastructure repair and maintenance falls to municipalities, so lobbyists don't care for them.
as a kid i always thought i was at fault for being moronic and that others don't mind cycling next to cars all the time
If everywhere had dutch cycle infrastructure then sure. As it stands I don't want to be turned into paste by a Romanian lorry driver.
>This scares the American
NOOOOOOOOOO I NEED MY TRUCK TO FEEL SAFE
>Oh sorry I cannot go with a bike, its raining outside. Yes my burgerking® skin is made out of sugar and I will melt if I dont drive my 2000 kilo gas guzler with my assault rifle
>Forces people to be fit
This is a big cope, I've cycled 400 km in the past two month and it didn't affect my weight. City "cyclists" would have to cover this distance in four to six months probably, with the same results.
Assuming you are like 6ft 220 lbs and you were going at 15kmh for half an hour a day,
you should have burned 13,175 calories which is like 4 lbs assuming you were eating maintenance, or 250 calories a day.
4lbs in two months is decent progress if you are also eating at a slight deficit. Lets call it 100 calories a day for 60 days. Thats like an extra 1.6 lbs lost.
thats 5.5 lbs, along with lifting, should push you to 6-7 lbs lost. in two months, or .8 lbs a week.
Thats 2.75 kg total and a third of a kg a week.
Unless you are really small and skinny and not trying to lose weight, Or eating way too much, idk how cycling doesn't affect your weight. You're doing something wrong.
I just looked at the calculator I used, and since I dont use metric often, I put you at 90 kg, which is 200 lbs, and 180 cm, which is 5'10. So if anything, you should have lost a lot more than just 2.75 kg or 7lbs. Closer to above 3.5 kg or 8.5 lbs.
At least it's something.

> $6000 bike that could cover all gas costs for years
moron
Just about to go shopping. 4 miles cycling on bridleway through fields, 2 miles of track along a disused railway through the outskirts of town, and about a mile of quiet back streets before hitting the central cycle path network.
I want to start cycling to work but my city is literally made up of medieval valleys and slopes because it's near the river. I would have to get an electric bicycle but they are like 800€ lmao. I just bought a shitbox, honda civic 2000 for 2K€...
Also car drivers here are completely moronic as in dangerous and I'm afraid of getting hurt (again).
m8, one of life's great pleasures is cycling slowly up a steep hill and laughing at ask the cagies behind you who can't overtake you.
Honestly, cycling up hills will improve your fitness like nothing else. Also, what city?
>Also, what city?
He lives in Porto.
Get the car. Bikes are only fun when the weather is warm but not hot. Also no wind and no rain.
Car with AC or heater is better 9 out of 10 times.
Don't listen to
, this person is probably fat and sweats without AC or in the slightest cardio based situation.
Get the bike, much better. Especially in Europe with your fricking expensive fuel. You'll save thousands a year. Don't fall for the shekelberg meme. Don't become more of a money slave. They have car share services that you can use if you really need to move something hefty. The bike will always win out. And don't get an E-bike unless you have to do 50-60km daily. A regular bike will make you healthier.
>muh money
are you that poor?

Also I have a car, but it's more of an insurance because I live in a country with bad infrastructure design, so distances above a certain threshold I drive, ya dunce. But if he rides in a small European city, chances are the winters aren't too harsh and biking is more viable, you tubby bastard.
you will eventually earn more money and be able to afford both.

Man I'd love to take the cycling pill but I live up one of the fricking steepest hills in town that's about 1km for the last leg of my commute and it involves having to cross a highway lol.
I ended up buying a 150cc scooter. Super cheap to run.

t.
no one in the netherlands wears a helmet biking, only old people on ebikes (required for old people) and germans wear helmets
Are you describing casual city cycling?
Just the other day an old person got mad I casually cycled past him (me in a helmet), the old fart started to prove he's a tough shit (he without a helmet) and this idiot didn't even check what's behind him. There was a car going 70+ km/h.
no, no one wears a helmet, if you were wearing a helmet on a regular bike he probably got mad because you didnt use your bell
god it feels good having such excellent and safe infrastructure, wearing a helmet on your bike is considered homosexual
Helmets are good if you're doing some BMX or mountain bike off-road stuff or some crazy 500km trip where you tune out potential dangers.
If you're commuting the same back and forth trip, and see the same potholes over and over.. I don't see the appeal. Just uncomfortable.
What if you secretly hope to die in a traffic accident?
>helmet haters

I live in the backwoods with windy roads where cyclists are a serious hazard. I've started not moving over and trying to get within 6" as I pass, they lose their shit everytime. I might take my motorcycle out this weekend and go cyclist hunting, it would be fun to kick the bike at 50mph and watch them go flying.
>Cyclists are the hazard
>I refuse to make them safe

Are cyclists the hazard though?

Hear, hear!
My cycle commute is a bit under 10 miles each way on the direct route through town; but in nice weather, there are alternative routes staying mostly rural of 15-20 miles.
I live in some remote shithole but if I add "chad" at the end of the word then I'm just like the muscular meme guy
i love cars but they should only be used for moving between towns and cities, not within them
the bicycle is one of the greatest inventions ever made, it's a shame its potential has barely been harvested
The bicycle was how the working man got around a hundred years ago. It just got eclipsed by the car when that became affordable.
This is all true, it's also better for long term maintenance of a car not to use it in small routes where you don't heat them up enough
I'm Dutch and this thread feels very mastrubatory.
we're just that much superior, accept it

ik snap niet waarom je nou zo moeilijk doet om wat fietsen
The dutch are superior in transit
I am not dutch, I've been there once and local systems jave been ruined for me
I never drive anymore unless it's absolutely necessary. I ride my 16 year old mountain bike everywhere: gym, grocery store, whatever. I only drive my van if I bring my dog with me or to get my dirt bike somewhere I can ride it.
do you sweat when you commute with a bike? I want to start biking to work but I'm afraid I'll sweat and just stink
Only if I dress too warmly in winter. Rule of thumb - be cold for the first mile.
>Wish I lived somewhere that allowed for cycling to be the main mode of transport.
do people who say this realize weather is a thing? its not always sunny outside. it rains and it snows... you want to ride a bike in that shit? i fricking dont. how do transport your groceries from the store to home? where does it all fit? in a little basket lol? is that how you want to live?
I lived in Colorado for a year with only a bike and only rain is annoying, snow wasn't that bad since my commute was early enough to avoid the heaviest traffic. Also the store was .25 miles so it was no big deal to walk there daily if needed.
Im not made of chocolate so it doesnt matter much of you get a little wet for a bit
But it's usually not raining or snowing.
As for transporting groceries, it largely depends on how stores are spread out. If there are only a few giant ones, you most likely don't have one around the corner so a car would just be much more practical... but if there are tons of smaller ones, that means there's always one nearby so you can make trips to the store several times a week and therefore only carry like one or two bags at a time, which you can easily manage on a bicycle. Pic related is just one chain in Amsterdam, there are tons of grocery stores.
>just live in Amsterdam bro
Just an example, I actually live in a small < 80,000 city. The same still applies as long as you're not in a super remote rural village or an urban sprawl hellscape.
i dont want to go to a fricking store every day only apartment dwelling rats want to live like this
For transporting shopping, as soon as internet grocery shopping became a thing, I said frick wandering around a supermarket after work or at the weekend for the weekly shop, and went straight to getting groceries delivered.
ive had groceries delivered before. its fine if you just want a bunch of processed junk food, but for real food like fresh produce, fish, meat, and stuff like that you have to trust these people with picking out the good stuff, and they just don't, they grab whatever and that's it.
because they are getting paid less than minimum wage working for an app with zero benefits, would you dig through a pile of tomatoes or carrots to make sure the customer is getting the freshest, best quality produce over and over again all day? or would you just grab whatever the frick piece of meat it says on your phone and be onto the next order.
thats my point though, for that type of stuff you have to go to the store yourself
Did you get it via an official seller or is that some uber/delivery app where the people are literally payed to walk into the store and pick your shit?
Where I live Amazon has a cooperation with a grocery chain and they just sent me a 20$ discount for my first order over 80$, considering giving it a try.
it was the grocery stores own delivery service. like i said its fine if you want them to pick already packaged/canned stuff off the shelf, but dont bother for any of the fresh produce or meats because they'll just grab whatever without caring if it looks like shit or not
Good advice, thanks anon. I'll get canned shit and dried shit then for that discounted order. I don't plan on ordering after that again anyways unless I get another discount like this.
You're being unduly pessimistic. In nearly 20 years of deliveries, I've not had problems with fresh produce (see typical order pic rel). The convenience outweighs any marginal improvements from spending time rummaging through what's on the shelf.
i dont live in england, the people who work at grocery stores here are pretty much all old people or people who cant speak english
I do all my grocery shopping by bike. I live about two miles from the store. I have a cargo rack and two big saddlebags. That's enough for a week's worth of groceries for me. If I wanted to I could wear a backpack and cram some more shit in there

What you really look like kek
took you a while to come up with that novel of an apology (which I of course didn’t read LOL). face it kitesurf gay, you couldn’t look like me even if you did all those things you claim I’m doing. go back to your homosexual “extreme” sports and let the real men talk. only reply to this if its a picture of your torso.

Why is his chest so narrow?
I can't even wear normal clothes and this homosexual has a small polo shirt draping over his bony chest.

probably because the fat gut under your titanic chest is stretching the fabrik too much

You know how when you replace tires, you just buy the tires and put them on your bike? Same with pretty much all bike parts. Did you know carcucks don't even put their cars together? They pay somebody else hundreds of dollars to do it lmao.

they look miserable, half of them are wearing a bunch of rain gear too. holy shit how annoying
europoors think this combined with their 35% income tax and 20% sales tax is something to be proud of
"I'm so happy I live in such a vibrant diverse city where I can cycle to my office job in the rain"
id be ok riding a bike in good weather, but i am absolutely not riding that shit in the rain or snow. frick that. i did that stuff when i was a kid and its fricking stupid
I live in Canada and the idea of cycling to work in the winter is moronic.
i live in new england so its not as cold as up there but yea frick that im not riding around on a bike in that bitter fricking cold, id have to put on so many like 5 layers of clothes to shield my body from the wind too
my city is full of fricking meth heads and opiate addicts, your bike would get stolen the first time you rode it to you downtown office job.
"Don't leave you bike outside then, bring it inside with you"
Would all 65 people that would in my office be able to bring a bicycle inside? Where would they all go?
id rather rollerblade than bike. you can go almost as fast as a bike, can carry stuff in a backpack and in your hands, doesnt take up as much space. still not doing it in the rain or snow tho
what always gets me about the living in a city and cycling everywhere r/frickcars crowd, is do these people not have any families or things they need to move? How do you go grocery shopping for a family of 5 on a bicycle? Do you kids not play any sports? No hockey/football/baseball equipment to take to their practice/game? How do you do anything as a family? Alright kids were going to visit grandma, everyone got on their individual bike and start pedaling.
Cargo bikes are a thing, even if they are bloody annoying to pass when you have a parent taking kids to school in one and they're dawdling along.
you're going to put your teenage son in this while you take him to hockey practice?
As a teen, he can bloody well do the pedalling to take his kit to the game.
this comment is so bri'ish it threw acid in my face and stabbed me with a stanley blade
>Do you kids not play any sports?
it might shock you, but a "soccer mom" isnt a thing here, kids can independently go places without helicopter parenting
completely missing my point? or deliberately missing the point?
It has nothing to do with teens be able to go someplace by themselves, the issue was how to you transport anything? My kid can get himself to hockey practice, but how would he carry his equipment on a bike?
What happens when he has a game that isn't at the local rink? Its only 75km away but are you going to cycle there with your equipment?
For that distance, a car is reasonable (if there's no suitable public transport); but for journeys under 10 miles, you should not be thinking motor vehicle as a first choice.
the frickcars people are all single apartment dwelling rats with no family
>the frickcars people are all single apartment dwelling rats with no family
so everyone on fit posts there then?
Where do they park their cars? At my office, we just made a section of the existing car park into secure parking for bikes.
we often dont even get snow in winter anymore
let me guess, you live in southwestern Ontario? Toronto or the GTA? that is the only place that exists in Canada for people like you
meanwhile me in deadmonton
The only reason I hate bikegays is that if you listen to them for more than 5min they will tell you that cars should be outlawed. Frick you I WILL drive where ever the frick I want.
i think thats an american bikegay thing tbh
ive been a bikegay all my life and i have no delusions about cars
ITT seething morons.
No cities are not designed around cars they're designed around land because the US has a lot of it. More distance to cover means you need faster transport. Bikes ain't it. The only places bikes work are in the densest cities which are New York, los angeles, and Phoenix in that order. Nobody bikes in Phoenix because it's in the middle of the desert and 110 degrees 9 months out of the year.
Places in Europe are quite dense. Consider that the average home size in the UK is 800 sq ft divided over 2 to 3 stories. Then consider that it's in rows filled with homes like these. Yeah you can walk all the way across a neighborhood in 2 minutes or less and immediately hit a highly urbanized area. When each of your neighbors has a 2000 sq ft home on one floor and a couple acres of land, you're not walking out of your neighborhood in any reasonable amount of time. Consider then that the subdivisions in the US are often built out of the way intentionally. This allows for the cost of the land to be cheaper than if you were to try to live close to the city center where demand for land is very high. People can then own homes of their own away from the city center but they need their own transport. The car is this transport. Without it nobody can own land in the US. You have to pay $3k per month to rent a shoebox in a Brooklyn analogue.
I get around via bicycle and my region's subway system because I'm practically a shut-in, nearly 30 and afraid to drive, and have no one to do anything with anyway. I bike in the street and have unfortunately never gotten into an accident that killed me.
why are bikegays so condescending? not everyone wants to be a citycuck and visit the grocery store every fricking day and cycle outside in -25 degree weather
because with proper infrastructure you get both you fricking Black person. nobody is taking your car option away, we just have the freedom to not be forced to drive a car
then go live in Amsterdam homosexual, I don't want to be taxed up the ass because some citycuck wants everything to be catered towards him so he can cycle to buy baguettes every morning
I already live in a cycle-able city, and the tax is actually less because there are less cars on the road :^)
Doesn't apply to Netherlands at all, insane gas prices + road tax + vehicle tax + maintenance bullshit.
what city do you live in that is cyclable and less tax? Any country in europe has triple the taxes of America
hows that working out for you
this has absolutely nothing to do with taxes, what to sidestep the question an reply with how much is costs to maintain a road
>tax collection for road maintenance has nothing to do with taxes
kys
graph that doesn't say taxes or even label the axis "Street maintenance - cumulative cashflow"
What is your sales tax rate? what is your income tax rate? what is your capital gains tax rate?
Are they lower than in America?
no
kys
that graph is road tax - road maintenance cost, you dumb Black person, kys
road maintenance is how much it costs to maintain a road stupid Black person, the graph doesn't say how much of the money comes from taxes stupid Black person, the OP comment says he lives in a cyclable city that has less taxes than American stupid Black person, how much do you pay in taxes stupid Black person?
kys
our lord and savior not just bikes has arrived to tell us how the whole world is amsterdam
>if I cope myself into enormous debt then that means urban development is good
so if your example of a cyclable city is amsterdam, the netherlands has an base income tax rate of 36.65% at minimum, and then increases from there depend on how much you make.
This is your cyclable city with less taxes?
why are you moving the goalpost from road taxes to income taxes?
what do you think income taxes? part of your income taxes goes to funding and maintaining roads
why can't you show me a cyclable city that is cheaper to live in that america? that was the original question
point to where on the graph it says road taxes?
https://www.mylifeelsewhere.com/cost-of-living/united-states/netherlands
>coping amerilards when everything is cheaper in the Netherlands except driving and eating out.
>myli feels ewhere .com
They'd have even higher taxes if everyone drove because the higher taxes is because of other shit they spend it on
western civilization is a complete failure because I can't afford a car on my part time retail job wage, cities need to be redesigned to accommodate my teenage needs
>proper infrastructure
Every high-density area in America attracts our national protected animal (the Black person). Most civilized people pref suburbs for that reason.
Americans imagine being so cowardly that you spend 100s of thousands of dollars on crumbling suburbs just to avoid blaqs instead of expelling or exterminating them like a real country.
all these twitter checkmark city dwelling bugmen are utterly incapable of understanding that not everyone wants to live the same lifestyle as them. The only aspiration they've known they're whole life is to move to the cool big city and and pay 90% of their income for a dirty 500 square foot apartment surrounded by theft and violent crime, the concept that some people do not want that is alien to them.
>incapable of understanding that not everyone wants to live the same lifestyle as them.
literally the opposite you fat moron. bicycle infrastructure is significantly cheaper to maintain than motor vehicle infrastructure (who wouldve thought maintaining roads with 2 ton vehicles driving over it would more than if only people on bikes used them??) its also just the idea that giving the viable option to get from point A to point B in a healthier way might be a good idea when half the western world is obese and on medication for moronic mental health problems.
again no ones stopping you and your other fat consumer friends from driving everywhere people would just like the option to be able to ride without getting ran over by some fat c**t
You don't have to live in a city to bike as your major means of transport. I'm
and I live in a house with a garden, in a pleasant little village about 6 miles from the nearby town, and commute to an office on the far side of town. It's rural (suburban at worst); you couldn't pay me to live in a city.
lol euro gays think 6 miles from the other side of town is being out in the country
When I'm cycling through farmland, that's as out in the country as it gets.
kek that's hardly rural, it's 6 miles here only to get to the highway, 40 minutes bike ride to the nearest small "town" that barely has anything
guys i live 6 miles from work, thats like sooper dooper rural here in euroland
Are cities taking your taxes now or are they contributing more than they're paying?
If you're paying for them, you'd be better off if cities decreased their total costs by becoming better for bikes.
Oh look, a bike thread where we have the mouth breathing morons on both sides again
>the car homosexuals who think anyone who rides a bike wants cars to be outlawed
>the bike homosexuals who think cars are the devil and should be outlawed
>>the bike homosexuals who think cars are the devil and should be outlawed
explain where in this thread that happened
>the board that praises marcus aurelius and stoicism flies into a rage about bicycles because of cyclists riding on the shoulder in the street that makes you 15-30 seconds slower getting somewhere
interesting
I would bike if my city had more bike lanes or it was legal to ride on sidewalks. Even if (BIG if) 99% of drivers were perfectly accommodating of cyclists, you encounter so many people on the roads in a given day that you WILL come across several that don't give the slightest frick about you or your safety and will gladly push you off the fricking road if it cuts 5 seconds off their commute.
It's fun but it's so humid in the south that i need a change of clothes.
In SoCal, everyone rides around on cool ebikes that haul ass and have cool tire noises while doing so. Gas is lol6dollars right now so I ride an escooter that hauls ass like a raped ape to most places I can.
To make American cities walkable would require ethnically cleansing blacks out of them.
No you'd have to build cities from scratch, trying to turn existing cities deisgned around cars into a reddit walkable meme city would be a waste of tax payer money and probably done poorly anyways. Anyone suggesting this shit as a genuine solution instead of improving on what exists already is just doing it to be a smug homosexual.
is Ubering IST?
I have this little red rocket to take me to work and back. Work isn't even far for since it's 1.47 miles away but I love going fast on this guy. I'll probably invest in a more durable bicycle but honestly I love this thing.
>1.47 miles
save your back and get a cheap grandma bike
>need new bike
>secondhand ones are atrocious
>new ones are over 2k
>need to go in and get your groin measured for a frame fit
man
Cycling is so much fun. I have a single-speed I use as a daily driver.
I like riding my bike but these gays are always ruining it for everyone else
>Yell at pedestrians for being in their way on a mixed-use path instead of slowing down, sometimes they hit people on purpose
>Constant traffic violations when they go on the roads
>Look and act moronic
>Buy a racing grade bikes but never enter competitions
>If you are using the bike lane but not in the exact way they are, they get angry as frick. You will see them complaining online about people who use their bikes to commute or to run errands or people with electric pedal assist motors on their bikes (because that allows them to go faster than them without putting in much effort).
I've seen all the shitty behavior by these people first hand so don't even try to deny it.
cycle enthusiasts are cringe cancer, cycle commuters are based and healthpilled
>netherlands
>activate e-scooter
>travel time to gym is 8 min
>cost ride was €3
>deactivate
versus
>travel time to gym with public transport is 17 mins excl. wait time
>travel time to gym with car is 12 min but gas is high
this shit is compfy as frick bros if i owned a bike it would have been even better
>taking a guy in a plastic helmet and spandex seriously
Plastic...
>IT'S NOT PLASTIC IT'S REINFORCED CARBON FIBER USED IN SPACE DILDO PRODUCTION
>ITT Eurogays trying to explain with Amerifats why human centric civilization is better than consumer centric civilization
not gonna happen
It's certainly not going to happen while they make building something like pic rel illegal, rather than compulsory.
Love cycling but have a job in finance and people would probably look at me like a freak if I came cycling in a full suit.
Beta
Yes I know but do you know 1 successful businessman who pulled up to his clients on a bicycle?
This guy seems to be doing all right with his plumbing business.
>plumbing business
homeless man stealing copper water pipes from buildings
Oh shit just ran out of bends, be back in 3 hours just going to the wholesalers. Yes you are being charged for it.
I don't have a generator on site, do you mind if I charge all my 18v batteries at your house?
I'm going on a coffe run bros what do you want? Okay cool, see you in 75 minutes with a half full coffee cause I spilled most of it on the way back.
Like this, you mean?
I've got a meeting with one of our most important client, time to start pedaling over there in the rain, I'll bring my bike inside and keep in the boardroom where we are meeting, don't want it to get wet.
Yes Hello Sir
lol the suit and backpack combo looks like all the 19 year old business students at my uni that think they are the next elon musk but have to take the bus to class cause they can't afford a car
I menan, ya? he does look like a freak with a milk crate strapped to his bike to carry his backpack and that dusty haircut, teenagers think this is acceptable at a finance firm
it's too easy to rob a bike, that's the only problem. I don't even leave my house with my phone, let alone a bike.
Based biking fascist
in my city there is an army of meth heads who steal bicycles with complete impunity, the police do nothing as some strung out guy pushes 3 bicycles down the street. I want to bike to work but I can't afford to buy a bike and then immediately have it stolen.
Get a compact folding bike -- it should fit under your desk.
where do you guys live that getting a bike is affordable? All the bike shops in my town want like 2,000 minimum for a basic ass bicycle. I wanted to buy one of the electric assist bikes for commuting to work , but they are like 3,500 to 5,500 depending on what type of battery you get in them. I can't afford a car and I can't afford this shit either.
I bought myself a new shopping/commuting bike (pic rel) just before Easter and paid £500 for the bike, plus about £100 for better tyres and other furnishings.
Used to spend every day after school and all weekend riding a bike that cost £80. Going through town, the housing estate and down in the woods. Why do you need 2k bike?
>where do you guys live that getting a bike is affordable?
Europe. In every european place I have been you can get bikes for very very cheap. My guess though is that where you live there isn't as much of a second hand market (the biketheft makes second hand bikes even cheaper, kek).
Did a quick check to see if I am out of touch since I haven't had to buy a new bike in quite a while:
Acceptable new bikes in a local bike shop where I live start at 250€, with options really opening up around 450€.
Ebikes (Pedelecs in EU) start around 1000€, with most a lot more options around 1500€.
But that is just the new stuff, if we look at the used market we can get much greater deals:
Bikes for men start at 5€ broken (fixing a broken bike is easy as frick, and adds maybe 20€ to the total price or some shit) with a decent choice around 25€ (yes that cheap, though I would replace a few parts for such a bike). If you are willing to pay like 50€ you can already find some used mid end bikes. Pay around 200€ and you can get some amazing bikes.
Used ebikes are a mixed bag and I don't really think I can comment well on those. If the battery is fricked it adds a lot to the total cost and they aren't so widespread yet that they have quite as big a used market. A quick look seems to show that options that aren't broken (because fixing a ebike is harder than a normal bike) start around 400€ but I don't know enough about ebikes to say if those are worth it or not.
Bikes occupy that holy grail of items for the used market:
- Abundant/widespread - I live in a flat and there are at least 2 bikes/flat in the bikeshed, plus 2 that previous renters left behind without owner
- big and bulky - meaning that storage of them is annoying
- usually not needed quickly - meaning that buyers can choose and pick
This combo means that people are willing to sell vastly under what they payed for a new one.
bro, just ride your 15,000 dollar cargo bike to the store and get some groceries, its so frickin easy bro
lol if you get this bike fully specced is fricking 18.000 dollars haahahah and then 13% sales tax in Canada is over 20 thousand dollars total, holy frick lol
Ignore the people that shill cargo bikes if you are looking for low cost. Cargo bikes are made for specific usecases, but you pay a lot for not much utility. Electric cargo bikes are built and marketed as "vehicle replacement options" with a price to match.
A carriage rack costs you around 50€.
Bike bags (left and right) around 100€.
A trailer around 80-200€ (though some of those can get expensive).
Pic rel is the burley travoy, one of the expensive options for a modular trailer you can use for shopping (that looks like a grandma trolley), which costs (without additions) 300£.
And you can save massively by going used/second hand.
yes sir the 3 plastic tubes and solid rubber wheels will be additional 300 dollars, additional features are extra, yes sir, this is an excellent deal
Stop pretending the same doesn't exist for cars too.
Why yes, this injection molded plastic ball will be 60$ dear sir.
a car still hauls cargo without the shifter knob, your bike needs the plastic tube trolly to carry anything at all
"The thing that costs 43000$ actually can carry more cargo than the thing that costs 500$" is not the rebuttal you think it is anon, kek.
You know, a car costs 86 times as much as a bike, but why bother? If you pay 86 times as much as a car you have a budget of 4.7 million$. For half that you can get a private jet. Carries more cargo, more people and is faster. Why bother with a car?
my shifter knob rebuttal failed, let's change the subject
My jet can transport 50 people without needing to buy anything, can your car do the same?
everyone knows you don't own a jet
I don't own a car either, what's your point?
I'm leaving to go to the grocery store now, better take my 140 dollar wire basket, I've got a lot to pick up
Wouldn't need that wire basket if you just used your Cessna Citation Excel. Anyways enough talking, I gotta pick some wooden planks up from the hardware store. Thankfully my 2.364$ roof rack will make strapping those planks down quite easy.
you still don't understand the argument that a car can carry all your groceries and daily cargo with zero attachments or extras, a bike can't carry anything without all these bags and trailers. I don't need a roof rack to buy groceries for my family and bring them home, you need your 300 dollar trolley to bring your case of almond milk back to your apartment.
I don't do groceries on a bike since shops are always at a walking distance, but I do own a tactical backpack (instead of a schoolboy's one) and it's 45L. It certainly won't fit 45 one liter bottles but four or five, on top of meat-grain-bread, that it'd do easily. Anything below 10kg is an easy ride too.
>I do own a tactical backpack
>tactical back pack
"Honey, we're out of milk, can you grab my urban combat tactical grocery transporter, I'll be deployed in theatre for the rest of the afternoon."
yea that anon is 100% lying about having a family lol. that dude totally lives by himself
He is actually seeting, it's not really worth talking to him anon. That other anon in
either lacks the mental capacity to understand the argument, or is trolling, both aren't worth it.
to be fair the term tactical backpack is cringe, but if I am extremely charitable then that anon may just be so removed from other countries' reality that he literally cannot imagine a life without his car. He doesn't realize how much you can put into a backpack, because he only buys at a giant store where you have to get by car, and then enough for multiple weeks. He can't fathom someone going to a store twice a week to buy fresh produce. Average american brainrot I guess.
>you still don't understand the argument that a car can carry all your groceries and daily cargo with zero attachments or extras, a bike can't carry anything without all these bags and trailers.
A bike can carry you. You can wear a backpack if neede, but 95% of bikes sold have at the very least a cargo rack above the backwheel. Enough to carry 1 big grocery bag.
>I don't need a roof rack to buy groceries for my family and bring them home, you need your 300 dollar trolley to bring your case of almond milk back to your apartment.
No you absolute brainlet, my bike has no bags or attachments, it's literally stock, and I use it to buy groceries for me and my family no issues. You just want to make it out to be impossible without paying oscene amounts of money. I chose that moronic overpriced roof rack, because you chose a moronic overpriced wire basket. Don't complain if I do the same shit to you. Does a car carry more than a bike? Of course. And a jet carries more than a car. You are literally comparing something that costs 86 times more and being smug about it for no reason.
And I haven't even gotten into maintenance costs and shit. Bike doesn't really need servicing, insurance, fuel, tires last longer etc.
Just tell me what is your point? All you do is post overpriced products and then laughing at them. I can do the same for cars, and you would rightfully call me moronic.
if you're buying used, some else had to pay full price for it already....
Yes, but it's not me, so what do I care?
The question is "for what price can you get a decent bike" and the answer is below 100€ if you buy used. The fact that there are some people who will not consider the used market and then pay a lot for not much utility only to sell it for a lot less isn't my problem, nor is it the problem of the person asking how much a bike costs, or am I missing something?
thats fair, I'm just going to save up my money for a while and buy the 6,200 dollar bike bus I think
Memes aside that shit looks uncomfortable as frick to ride.
Picrel is the supreme group biking experience, found in most german cities for rent. Fresh beer and some exercise.
don't these still have engines in them though? since the half assed pedaling of 10 drunk adults isn't enough to move all their bodyweight and 3,00 pounds of wood structure with roof, steel frame underbody, and beer kegs up a moderate incline?
I think some do, some don't. I've only ever been on 3 different ones, by different companies. 1 was unpowered (but they had a battery on board to cool the beer). Admittedly that city didn't have much elevation and once we got sufficiently drunk we didn't do much distance anymore. The other 2 had motors, but one was offroad in the vineyards and the other was a much more tourist infested city. No idea which version is rarer, but the unmotorized one was quite fun. I guess it would only work in specific cities though.
the only 1 I've been on had electric motors to help with inclines and when drunk people decide to give up on pedaling
Yeah those electric motors were on the 2 I was on with motors as well. Honestly once elevation comes into play it makes sense to have it, those beer cars are quite heavy.
You bike homosexuals complain so much that I'm starting to believe you actually dont even try biking around irl.
There are parks, streets in your neighborhood that can be safe to ride around. Dont be moron and try to bring your bike to the freeway.
Also, good luck trying to bike around in winter.
move to Berlin germany best city for cycling
Downside: You have to live in berlin
