I remember being a little kid and not understanding how kids could run and breathe through their nose and it pissing me off a lot. I never knew about this until I was basically an adult.
Do I have this? Cant run more than like 100 meters without opening my mouth. Have a decent endurance but I start panting quickly.
same, was a huge mouthbreather as a kid. parents would always b***h at me to stop looking like a moron. in high school they finally took me to a doctor, and they eventually gave me surgery for a deviated septum. it was like night and day, regarding breathing and my senses. smell and taste were so much more powerful after the surgery, and i don't feel like i'm sucking air through a coffee stirrer when i breathe through my nose.
Apparently my mom had this for like the first 30 years of her life before she got surgery to fix it. Unfortunately she still walks around with her mouth hanging open all the time like a fricking moron because her facial structure got fricked up by the decades of mouth-breathing.
Fricking ghouls man.
calling all medgays, is this deviated?
I'm gonna deviate it if you know what I mean
DEVIATE MY NOSE RIGHT FRICKING NOW
i don't
>Look how hard I can piss!
Your pattern recognition is out of this world. Be proud of yourself, anon.
No FRICKING way. 11/10 post
Someone explain this to me
Oh lmao, he truly has unmatched pattern recognition
wtf kek
Yes, mine is worse and I have no problems, you're fine
no, not clinically significant
Looks like a woman squt-dipping on my dick
I still manage to breathe through my nose but only through one nostril. If I cover my right nostril I'll notice I struggle to get air in through the left side. I've thought about getting it checked out for a while now.
I have this too.
I can breathe through my left nostril, but it's noticeably harder.
>pull narrow side nostril open with a plastic straw
>inhale deeply
>mind instantly clearer
So this what I'm missing out on
Everyone is like that. You're only supposed to be able to breath clearly through one nostril and it will alternate between them
no it's not. you should be able to take a deep breath through both nostrils with no hinderance on either side. having a deviated septum blocks one nostril almost entirely where you cannot normally breath through it. it's literally like being consistently stuffed up on one side
Good thing my allergies make me constantly stuffy on both sides
80% of people have a nasal cycle where 1 nostril is slightly inflamed and the other is clear. It cycles between the two every hour or so. It is completely normal and not an impairment.
The nasal cycle is not a hinderance unless you have allergies or are sick. Being aware of it is usually a sign of something wrong. If you cant sleep on a certain side at night without mouth breathing that is not normal
You can become aware of it without anything wrong. Becoming aware of it is how most people discover it. You should be able to take deep full breaths through your nose at all times.
Yes, just like you can be aware of breathing, seeing your nose in your peripheral, or blinking but it shouldn’t be a normal occurrence. You shouldn’t be consistently aware of it because it’s something the body naturally does. Being consistently aware of it is not normal and is an indication of something wrong
I just realized the other day this is what i have. I always thought at least one side of your nostril was supposed to be kinda closed up all my life. Just kidding, but I thought it was just inflamed or something whenever I checked, cause 90% of the time I bothered to check, i was sick. It doesnt bother me that much so i never seriously looked into it. I heard about it the other day and realized that's what it is.
You know much shit I got throughout my life for not being able to blow my nose? It only comes out one nostril and if I try to blow from the closed one it feels like my eye is going to pop out of my socket. It was really just my grandma that cared about me not being able to blow my nose but I just couldn't make her understand.
AAAAAAAH AM I BROKEN OR NORMAL NOW IM EVEN MORE CONFUSED
As an aside I tried the mouth taping thing earlier this year one night and woke up fricking suffocating in the night. I don't think I normally mouthbreath, but I need to sometimes.
i got the surgery for this and my nose still sucks, how do i fix it?
Be glad you didn't get more.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empty_nose_syndrome
TFW had this plus chronic allergies so I was a heavy mouth breather for 18 years
Sucks cause my dad was a turbo chad and I’m a 6/10 at best due to a slightly elongated fact and subpar jaw. My chin is solid though thank god
You are literally me wtf
What are we going to do bro? I have a slight underbite. I want to get surgery to fix it.
Orthodontics can generally fix an underbite without surgery.
Still waiting on that elective surgery, was referred to a doctor 3 months ago.
just go to turkey and get it done.
I got septoplasty and turbinate reduction done this year. Seriously do it, it’s life changing. I’ve had to mouth breath for 30 years. I always though my cardio was shit but I did a 5k turkey trot on a whim and it was so easy. I haven’t ran that far in in probably 10 years. If you have deviation get it fixed seriously. The recover was so easy. I was cleared to lift in a week. Go book your appointment Black person.
Wtf. I’m having this exactly surgery and the doctor told me no gym for 6 weeks. How come your recovery was so rapid?
Idk I didn’t even have splints or packing. Maybe my doctor was just good. I took 1 Percocet that day after surgery and then I didn’t need pain meds onward. When you go in for your debridement follow ups, it’s awesome cause they remove all the shit out of your nose and you can instantly breath. It’s an amazing experience if you haven’t been able to breathe properly before. I can actually meditate now and sleep better. Stop being a pussy and go get it done.
That's mad bro happy for you. My surgery is already scheduled for January so looking forward to joining nose breathing club in the new year.
I've lived 32 years with curved potato nose might as well carry on for another 10-15 till I finally decide to kill myself. I'm too poorgay for a private clinic and doing it on insurance is intentionally made to be an organisational and logistical nightmare
Surgery can frick you up as well. It's not a guaranteed benefit.
Just learn to breathe through your nose properly.
I know that feel
yo i have that, i dont feel any discomfort because of it tho
Can a deviated septum cause stuff like sleep apnea or waking up in the middle of the night? I already know I have a confirmed deviated septum.
Is there a way to find out whether you have it or not without getting a scan?
>Is there a way to find out?
yes. if one of your nostrils is always doing like 85+% of the breathing (it can even switch from one to the other), and blocking the active nostril makes nasal breathing super inefficient, you're basically on the deviated spectrum.
I am getting an adult palate expansion to deal with this inspired by the instruction of Weston A Price and his battle against modern orthodontics.
For covid testing I found out I can basically only stick a swab in my right nostril all the way down horizontally as it is advised to do. In my left nostril something blocks the swab. Could this be the reason? I can breathe well though (I think) just most air is going through the right nostril
I have a deviated septum and run 10k just fine. You practice breathing in and out through your nose exclusively it will make minor changes that help it and you'll get the same no2 release. Stop making excuses.
I also have the deviated one and I can still do nose breathing even while running.
It's a trainable skill. The nose canals expand as you do more of it. Some people sleep with their mouth taped to focus on it.
Surgeries don't always help.
Watch Huberman on this, or read this book and stop pretending you are a *durr hurr genetic failure* like the blackpillers that refuse to hit the gym over some dumb excuse.
The nose is as trainable as your biceps.
I don't do cardio often anymore. But when I do I limit my pace to where I can still breath through my nose.
can we get a tldry guide or some shit
not gonna read this whole book
Going to see an ENT doctor on Tuesday for a nasal polyp but going to check to see if I also have a deviated septum
its nose clamps all over again.
they were proven to be utterly ineffective.
your nose inst at fault that you are completely dysfunctional. its the shit genes from your parents.
This man has contributed more to aesthetics than 99.999999% of the human population.
Complete fraud
>Complete fraud
yeah this is totally normal go slurp up your goyslop yum yum yum!
Pure genetics
you're fricking stupid
In your gif neck skin seems to be a more deciding factor. If you have a turtle neck you look ugly regardless of your jawline
Andrew Tater is proof that with enough frauding even chincels can do it.
What do you mean frauding? He never hid it he never got a copebeard, and as obsessed as this dude is with alpha shit, he never gone and done a chin implant
A few mm of bone…
Got the surgery 3 years ago, had a fricking awful recovery where your nose is packed and have a splint in it. Can't fricking breathe for 2 weeks hurts like a mother fricker it's fricking gross and yet my nose is still fricked. If anyone is reading this and contemplating the surgery I recommend you have a long hard think about it
had a surgery in June.
Literally lifechanging how much better it feels with it fixed.
I cant breathe through my nose at all and I can do 10 miles in an hour. Thats not setting any records, but its pretty good I feel
just fricking breathe through your mouth
That gives you moron face over time
Only if you do it since childhood, once your bones have grown pretty much nothing will change them
Is having to blow your nose a lot a symptom of this shit. I gotta blow it a couple times a day if I want it to feel clear of mucus
>hypoxic aerobic training for free
Mine got slanted because my dumbass mother dropped a pot of boiling tea on my which cause me to drop and hit the face when I was a kid. So I got my face permanently fricked up and my dick burned in one day. Good times, she never apologized.
You should beat the shit out of her anon
I have a deviated septum but when I learned about it and mouth breathing I have just forced my self to still breathe trough my nose more, and I feel like it helps. I guess its about 50/50 between mouth breathing and nose breathing.
Just breathe with your mouth. You can force your throat open to counteract the negative effect.
i have this and i'll be getting surgery soon to fix it
sucks that it has fricked my facial structure since childhood but w/e i'm still cute just have a really high palate
*Blocks your breathing path*
What do
>have this for years
>constant sinus infections
>can hardly taste anything
>get surgery
>sponges in my nose keep me from swallowing much for like 3 or 4 days
>feel like I'm dying
>finally get them out
>oh my God I can breathe I can smell oh my God avocados taste so fricking good I never tasted these flavors before
>week later
>can't smell or taste again because terrible allergies
>been like this a year now
Least I'm not getting sick all the time h-hahahaha
>avocados taste so fricking good I never tasted these flavors before
You're fricking lying
Avocados are the most tasteless things around. Cabbage has more flavour than that shit.
He's not lying I could smell and taste things I couldn't before even in foods I ate all the time, post surgery
It was like super smell and taste
Get some ripe ones or a different cultivar. If they only taste fatty/creamy with no other flavour then you've got some bland avos. Same shit happens with a lot of (if not all) store bought tomatoes. They're flavourless compared to the ones I've had from people's gardens.
I have a terrible deviated septum and run a 15:19 5km, you're just fat
I had this for years and never knew and the best I ever did was a 7 minute mile.
I just had it surgically corrected and can't wait to run like a real homie
Just stick some chopsticks up there and straighten it
there was a frickin video recently where this chinese guy reached up inside another guys nose and just frickin crushed his turbinates with his fingers.
looked excruciating
just have it fixed?
my brother just got this fixed, but he doesn't have bad aerobic endurance, he plays football (not handegg) just fine
mirko?
Mewing and fixing my posture unironically fixed my deviated septum.
Used to be that every time I'd lie down, my sinuses would become harder to breathe through, until I'd start breathing through my mouth. Absolutely killed my sleep gains.
The way I see it is that under normal conditions, the muscles around the mid of the face all pull on the nose in balance. My facial muscles were so weak that the septum would just fold in on itself.
MewBlack folk would soon start claiming that mewing cures cancer and grows your dick 5 inches. Imagine guzzling snake oil this hard in almost 2023
no it actually helps
When i have a stuffy nose, pressing my tongue hard on the roof of my mouth clears it up in like maybe a minute
at the very least its worth a shot
I’ve known about mewing since 2015 and have yet to see one verifiable result
dude it absolutely clears up your nose and lets you breathe easier
idk about jawline, cheekbones etc.
>guzzling the snake oil of not mouth breathing
WHAT A SCAM!
you people are actual demons btw, burn in hell
I am this anon. Didn't read through the thread initially
It's crazy how drastic the change is, right? I'm glad the surgery helped you tbh. I have a few friends that got similar surgeries and it was kinda hard to talk to them about it at first. Orthotropics has been a godsend for me, but I don't want to shame any of my friends that chose surgery.
I try not to delve into conspiracy theorizing but I lowkey think claims like these are psyops to get people more complacent with widespread deteriorating bodies.
The face consists of many bone plates which are fused together, but still malleable even past the age of 27 that morons like to throw out. Just look at people without teeth to see how much the face can change.
I would say it's either chronic allergies or sinus inflammation.
What a lying idiot you are
Can I know if I have that without going to a doctor?
I have an egregious deviated septum and can run a 5K in 16 minutes
I've got something fricked up with my nose too. It may be a deviated septum, I don't know. Whenever I sleep, if I turn to one side or the other it switches which nostril is clogged.
Your blood oxygen saturation is likely ~99% at all times anyway, your problem isn't not getting enough air, it's low CO2 sensitivity.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohr_effect
>Hemoglobin's oxygen binding affinity [...] is inversely related both to acidity and to the concentration of carbon dioxide
>an increase in CO2 results in a decrease in blood pH,[2] resulting in hemoglobin proteins releasing their load of oxygen. Conversely, a decrease in carbon dioxide provokes an increase in pH, which results in hemoglobin picking up more oxygen.
The more CO2 you have in your blood, the easier it is for oxygen to be released from hemoglobin and picked up by tissues - the more CO2, the more oxygenated ALL of your body can be.
The breathing center in your brainstem regulates your breathing based on CO2 concentrations, however, and since you've been overbreathing (like nearly all modern people) as a result of constant anxiety and poor posture, you've become used to lower CO2 - your CO2 sensitivyt has gone down. Hence you feel like you need to breathe much more than is needed, you have lower CO2 and your tissues are getting less oxygen - you feel tired, your nasal passages are obstructed, your heartrate is elevated and so on.
Naturally breathe out, then hold your breath for 10-20 seconds (if possible), repeat a few times if necessary and you will soon see that your nose gets unblocked.
You need to reset your CO2 tolerance by breathing less.
This super short book goes more in-depth on the issue and lists effective methods to do so:

This one is more mainstream-style but also considerably longer:

Or in general just google "Buteyko breathing exercises," but I'd really recommend reading the first book.
