Diet is overrated

People always talk about how diet is 99% of this stuff but I highly disagree.

I spent years focusing on my diet and prioritizing it over training, and just "did what I had to do" in the gym and focus on nutrition, but I never really made any kind of progress that way, it was okay, I was lean, I was looking alright.

But I never actually got the "muscular" look until I basically stopped thinking about diet at all, and just went HAM in the gym going all out maximizing my training sessions doing tons and tons of volume, lifting as heavy as I could, doing so much reps that my muscles would be bursting from the skin.

It made me realize its actually the exact opposite, if you want maximum gains you have to "let go" when it comes to trying to maximise your diet, and just put all your mental energy and focus into the gym itself, if you try hard enough, your diet is near almost irrelevant, if you stimulate in the gym, the growth will happen no matter what your diet is like so long as it isn't completely trash, but you definitely dont need an autistic diet, if you want to be autistic about anything it should be training

      Actually the exact opposite mate.

      I was like 25% bodyfat when I started lifting, its why I always focused on diet. I focused on diet because I wanted to be lean, and everyone said I have to focus on diet, and that diet is all that matters etc.

      So I did the diet-focused way of lifting/nutrition, and yeah I got lean, but I never got muscular doing it.

      I didn't get muscular until I stopped all the autistic dieting, and went full autistic about training, and put nutrition on the backburner.

    No, you just discovered that both training properly and watching your diet are equally important.
    If your diet is fantastic but you train like a pussy, you make 0 gains.
    If you train hard and your diet is complete shit (ie not enough protein, junk food all the time ect), you make 0 gains.
    Lastly because it's part of the three pillars of fitness, recovery. Sleep your 7 to 8 hours a night. If your recovery is shit, you make 0 gains, on top of having a whole lot of other daily problems due to fatigue and lack of sleep.
    Gains cannot be made properly if any of those three is lagging behind.

    Brainlet take. Even if you didn't continue to apply a lot of higher function to it, your years of focusing on diet literally changed your dietary habits on such a fundamental level that you could stop actively trying to manage it and just focus on your training, BECAUSE you had mastered your diet, not in spite of it.
    You laid the first slab of the foundations of good health by fixing diet first.
    I guarantee that after you "stopped caring" about diet you still understood implicitly when to eat more foods and what kind of foods to prioritise in your big meals. You didn't go straight to a cheetos+coffee+cereal diet and start getting swole without needing adequate nutrition.

    i disagree
    training makes very little difference, like 1%. people so vastly different routines and they all are capable of reaching more or less the same goal. some train 3 times a week, some once, some 6 times, some do only machines. some only compounds and i have witnessed all reach amazing results.

    in the end diet is what makes the noticeable difference. when you are on a surplus for long period you build muscle and get big, when you are on a deficit for 3-6 months, u get ripped. it's literally 99% just diet that dictates how you look.

        A good diet with essentially zero training will not give you gains.
        Good training with essentially garbage diet will give you some gains but not very much and very slowly.
        Good training with good diet will give you major gains.

    I have been cutting for 2 years, and said frick it and maintained/bulked for June-July (just fricked off with the diet basically lmao), and gotta finish my cut by December, the amount of energy and motivation to do anything is literally uncomparable to how shit I felt cutting. I eat fricking donuts everyday and added 10lbs to all my lifts in 2 weeks. I know it's probably cause i just got fat again, but holy frick bros I will never cut again once I get these last pounds off, it feels to good being healthy, even when my nutrition was shit.

    Diet is the most important thing. If you never made any progress by focusing on diet, then you're an incompetent moron. Simple as.
