    Probably not enough but 1g per lb of bodyweight is way overkill. You end up overworking your kidneys and pissing most of it out, and you can’t even absorb more than 30g from a meal at a time. Somehow “1g per kg of lean mass” became the ridiculous “1g per lb of bodyweight” over decades of broscience and bb forum posts.

      I may be wrong but it was "use for muscle protein synthesis", it was 20g and for meals post physical activity it doubled to 40g, your body would still use the "excess" protein, just not for muscle building

    Frick no. Before changing my lifestyle, I ate about 40g to 50g of protein a day, and my diet was typical of most Americans.
    I suspect the same is true of most western nations. If the majority is getting above 100g protein, they're doing it by eating 3500 cals a day.

      2-300g chicken breast for lunch, whatever you want at dinner (obviously include some sort of protein centric meal like steak and veg or fish and veg, whatever), shake or yoghurt at the end of the day if you had a low protein dinner

          bulk chicken breast is about the cheapest thing you can get. substitute with ground beef if thats cheaper? eggs are cheap too

    I dont think we eat enough good protein from real meat/eggs.

    Although Im an old gay, I remember growing up hearing a lot of myths about meat/protein: 1) bad for kidneys 2) leaches calcium from bones 3) sits undigested in bwels for 12 years 4) contains choelsterol and therefore causes heart attacks 5) causes cancer 6) you can only absorb so much 7), etc. etc.

    Almost all of the above claims have been either scientifically debunked as untrue, lies or true but inconsequential and therefore misleading (eg calcium from bones - yes but it returns. its just part of the digestive process) .

    And yet growing up I always wanted more and more emat. More chicken and beef especially. There really never was enough, even though my family did provide plenty of milk. I love milk and drank a lot.

    But I did grow prety big and reasoanbly storng.

    However, later in life I have decided to drasticlaly increase my meat intake. I used to aim for .8g per pound of bodyweight, which puts me right at 200g per day. Fine. No problems.

    Recently, I icnreased my meat intake such that my protein is now closer to 300-350g per day without increasing my overall calories (I cut out some carbs and added lean chicken breast).

    Everything has imnproved. My shits are medium sized, firm but not hard and twice per day. Sleep has improved. Ab defintiion is sharper and my lifts have all gone up. Shoulders are rounder and arms seem to have grown bigger. I also feel more easily satiated, less irritable and hangry all the time.

    Although I am just a stufdy of one, I frmly beleive that more than 1 gram of protein per day is helpful. I weigh a fairly lean 265 right now and eating 300-350g of protein from meat and eggs seems to really be beneficial. Maybe Im a shitty digester of emat and need more. Who knows. But eat more protein and meat.

    Finally, understand that the RDA is not the amount recommended for optimal health, performance or longevity-its the minimum amount needed to prevent death
