You don't "have" to do anything, not even breathe.
Breathing is a good idea though.
    As are sit-ups, fatass.

You have back problems because you're a fat frick, not because of sit-ups.

If you don’t train them, you’d have to cut down to an unhealthy level before they show. Even then, they’d be weak and unimpressive. Abs are made in the gym and revealed in the kitchen.

This is true. You do have to train them, but there are fun ways to do it effectively, such as with an ab wheel or L sits. Planking is also kinda fun and you can do it anywhere.

If you trained them when you were a kid you're probably good. I haven't actively trained mine in years and I maintain them because I have a good mind-muscle connection to them and keep my core tight at all times while standing or erecting my spine.

I got DOMs from training abs and thought my appendix burst, it was so fricking painful.
My abs are strong rom squatting and diddlies but they weren't used to direct work, I jumped straight into doing L sits with paralettes and other crap and paid the price

I was planning on doing them at the end of leg days, or as part of active recovery before an upper body day

I use the ab cruncher machine and do 2x15 leg lifts every workout, I have a six pack but I'm thin so it was easy for me.

Just hold a plank for 60 seconds each day, that is literally all it takes to get abs.

    High Volume
    cable crunches
    landmine twists
    knee then straight leg raises
    2x12+
    1xAMRAP
    that's all you need

the abdominal muscles are some of strongest shit we have so you have to beat them down accordingly. i only started feeling my abs after doing cable crunches with +80kg.
