Squats are good for other things, physically carrying the heavy weight hits your nervous system differently from leg press.

Personally I mix squats and leg press. If I hit both in the same leg workout pretty much nothing else I do matters, all the other exercises are just for accessories or vanity (calf raises).

Funny part is the same thing can happen to you during squats or deadlifts (although it is far less likely since you can drop the weight). The problem is straightening out completely and locking your legs at the top of the rep. Don't do that and you're golden.

Leg press allows you to move the most amount of weight in the gym so the vainglorious try hards are instinctively drawn to it. Rack pulls are another one. ROM decreases = ego inflates. This is every commercial gym.

Your legs might feel more worked out but you're not building strength.

      Anonymous

You've literally highlighted the problem with leg presses. You can leg press 225 but you can't even squat 225, ergo leg press is fricking shit because it doesn't translate into anything. It's fine to use as a accessory exercise to squats, but clearly it doesn't do frick all for strength.

What are you going to do, walk around all day thinking you're a big man because you can leg press x amount of weight but as soon as anyone asks you to actually lift something in the real world you'll fold like a fricking piece of paper.

        Anonymous

        >but clearly it doesn't do frick all for strength.
Ridiculous. Let's assume for a moment that you can squat, for example, only 100lb. Then you train solely with leg press until you can eventually press 800lb. Do you think that your squat will still be limited to only 100lb?

          Anonymous

Probably not because most teenage girls can squat more than 100lbs but I wouldn't be surprised if they couldnt even put up three plates for a single. Barbell squats are a much more technical movement and more associated with overall lower body power than leg press

            Anonymous

I'm not disputing that squatting is more difficult and translates better to athletic abilities than the leg press. It's just the idea that leg press (or machines in general) do nothing for strength is a stupid meme that needs to die. You can still get super strong on manchines.

          Anonymous

Not whom you responded to but yes because if you don't regularly squat you're missing out on core and back gainz to stabilize the weight on ur back

You are an absolute fricking moron just like him.
If he actually squatted he would have much higher squat numbers because leg press are an assistance exercise but if you only do leg press no fricking shit your squat numbers will suck.
God I hate when people that don't know shit think they have the right to open their mouths.

      Anonymous

Your core feels like that because is weak precisely because you don't squat.
If you avoid working on your core through compounds you will eventually snap your shit because your core is weak and you will probably blame the exercise that you were doing at the moment.
Bit what am I saying there is no way you are moronic and there is a connection between a weak core and core pain when you focus on a exercise that doesn't engage your core.
      Enjoy your back pain.
