Nah. Generally you'll be alright with heavy singles and triples without a belt, but for reps with heavy compounds your core will usually give out before the target muscles.

I will say however as someone who used to train like a powershitter and ate up that 2.8x bw deadlift, 2x bw squat, 1.5x bw bench, 1.25 bw ohp shit who now does things for reps because I'm old and have been injured a lot nobody in my current gym does anything like that. I have seen like three people with a belt which is about how many I've seen squat and three times as many as I've seen do ohp. Plenty of people are big, plenty of people are strong, very few of them need a belt or try and pull close to 2x bw for reps.

They help prevent hernias. I wear a belt when I squat but not for anything else.

I wear my belt for heavy RDLs, squats, but also for seated OHP cause I find it helps stabilise my core. Is that moronic?

No if it works for you do it. If you're planning to be lifting into old age you'd better take care of yourself and not let your ego make decisions for you.

If you need gear you aren’t ready. Same goes for being able to unrack the weight on your own. 15 years lifting with no injuries following this rule

No, rather, they'll accentuate it because you'll actually LEARN how to brace properly once you use a belt.
I capped my best raw squat at 550 done in running shoes and cargo pants with sleeves only. Had I used a belt and learned how to brace properly, I think I'd have had a good shot at 600, but alas, my "MUST GO RAAAAAAAW!!!!" mentality at the time fricked me out of knowing what it was like to dunk 6 hundo in this lifetime as now I'm too old and fricked up to think this is gonna happen at 50.
Belts are something I WISH I'd used sooner and known what good they could have been. Probably would have fricked myself up less had I used one 20 years ago.
