            Anonymous

I see, nice to know I'm developing some consistency (I still consider myself a /beg/). There are a lot of resources on /ic/'s sticky, but I recommend the following authors:

            Glen Vilppu
            Steve Huston
            Peter Han
            Chris Legaspi
            Michael Hampton
            Bert Dodson
            Marshall Vandruff
            Andrew Loomis
            Scott Robertson

Also just copy the artworks you like, you learn a lot that way.

          >Thanks for the critique, I still have some problems when drawing people's bodies, specially legs.
no problem, I only noticed it after looking a bit closer, but once I saw it I couldn't unsee it. The bodies look good and the faces do as well. her face looks a lot more refined than his, like you spent more time drawing that girl and the guy was just there in comparison. She just seems to have more personality in her face than the guy does. And her squat position, although more obscured, seems more natural. Notice how her shins angle forwards more, if you squat that's how they'll be. If your shins are straighter then you end up having to stick your arms in front to counterbalance.

I'm curious how you drew this now because I wanna know if my conclusions are correct, namely that you seemed to me to put more thought and care into the girl than the guy.

If I try to name one thing about the guy that seems off, his eyes are a bit bigger than the girl and it makes him seem less serious and more cartoony

        It's an asian thing

          Anonymous

don't be stupid. Look at the girl on the right. Her arms are in front of her feet, helping her balance. Also, her shins are angled forward a fair amount. Try to squat down and keep your arms crossed by your chest, you'll notice that your shins must angle forward more to bring your center of mass somewhere over your feet so you don't tip over. Whereas in the drawing, it's clear that the guy's center of mass would be behind his feet and thus he should fall backwards unless his feet were affixed to the ground by something other than gravity.

And to be clear I still obviously think his drawing is good

and also what's with calling squatting asian now? I keep hearing normies say this when they see me squatting. I'm not even asian. normalgays seem to be an even worse hive mind than before. they're probably all on the same exact dogshit phone app all day and they move in lock step like something's controlling their brains

Kickboxing, origami, reading. I read a lot of fantasy and mythology and non-fiction mostly about animals and sociology.

How the frick do you consider drinking green tea to be a hobby?

My mother recently bought an origami book. Can you tell me more about the virtues of paper-craft, including paper maché?

        Anonymous

Well, the only kind of papercraft I got into was traditional origami where you use a single piece of paper and no tearing or cutting. I've seen some wonderful designs using less restrictive methods, but for me the enjoyment comes from learning a pattern and then refining it so that each time you fold it you get a cleaner and better result. It's an intensely Japanese hobby, by which I mean it encourages patience, attention to detail, and autism.
I find it very satisfying and it helps to clear my mind whilst also being productive. I recommend /po/, it's a pleasant if extremely slow board.
Paper maché doesn't really appeal to me since it seems messier and less precise, which is kind of leaning away from the things I enjoy about origami.
I actually started because I found a crane in a bar once years ago and thought it was cute, so I also sometimes leave them dotted around in random spots on the off chance that someone else finds one and it prompts them to start origami too.
I also once taught a gf how to make cranes and she folded me a hundred with a message or drawing inside each one and it was far and away the most thoughtful and moving gift I've ever received.

That's like saying classic comic books are just paper that anyone can print. These are original items and still in their packaging, therefore collectible.

        >but one day their value is going to hit the roof
I am certain that will not happen, but what’s your reasoning anyway?

They're emblematic of our cultural era, and I'm confident they'll evoke a sense of nostalgia in years to come that will make them attractive to the same crowd that's buying retro goods today. Additionally they cover a range of characters and franchises that appeals to a broad swathe of the market.

        >hit the roof
At best they'll be like beanie babies. What's more likely is what happened to 1980s-90s baseball cards.

While that is sound logic, there are millions of these things. Like pokemon cards, some may be more rare than others with varying values, but unless you have a 1st edition 1998 holographic charizard in mint condition you aint getting more than $100 or so. We're talking a 20 year wait on an investment that *may* double, and only double.

Pride of place at the moment is a Star Wars Shadow Trooper, which is currently already worth $1500, and even that is one among many careful choices. >I have a diverse portfolio
You're all in plastic toys. That's not diversification. Diversification is investing in different, even competing, sectors. Tech, energy, consumer goods, plastic toys, investing in all of those would be diversification.
              >Pride of place at the moment is a Star Wars Shadow Trooper, which is currently already worth $1500
It's worth $0 if no one ever buys it from you. Unrealized gains are fun to look at, but you ultimately need to sell and rotate to other assets to lock in appreciation.
              >it really is a full time hobby with strategy and planning required

Things like cigars and wine become art forms from the way the plants are cultivated, the soil, the fermentation, and so on. Each one is unique and has different flavors, subtleties, and qualities. Tea can have that kind of depth but I doubt OP is drinking it in that context.

Did you know the perception of hotness isn't based on how hot something is, but rather how that material transfers heat to our bodies? You could have the hottest material in the world but if it has poor thermal conductivity, you'd be totally cool (heh) to touch it.

Actually a lot of things kindof work out that way. The absolute value of something never really truly matters, only how it changes.

No? What about PV=nRT and E=(3/2)*kT ? Physics permits determining the temperature of various phenomena from understanding other macroscopic things, like the kinetic energy put into the system, or pressure & volume.

I like fishing and shooting trap/skeet. I also think cooking is cool but I'm not particularly immersed in it, just an amateur that likes to try making things himself. Was hanging out with friends tonight and wanted to make something cool, decided to try making skewers. Picked up a bag of frozen shrimp but steak prices made my pp retract so I used a giant fricking slab of pork shoulder I found for $6 instead and it was a hit, everyone loved it.

It had a rub already applied before it was wrapped up at the grocery store. I just fried it on avacado oil, then used the pan to fry my shrimp in a mix of onions sauce, hoisin sauce, and teriyaki sauce. After I was satisfied with the shrimp I scooped them out with a slotted spatula, cut my pork into chunks and threw it back in the skillet to mop up what was left of the shrimp sauce. Basically no idea what I was doing but it worked out great

Yeah, cooking new things for myself is interesting but making stuff that other people really enjoy is a whole different sense of achievement. Friends all complemented it pretty heavy and said it was like something they'd expect to get at a nice restaurant. Of course they're obligated to be nice because we're m8s but I'll let myself believe they were being sincere
