They seem just smart enough to convince themselves not working out is somehow good, but not smart enough to notice that not having muscle doesn't feel good.

Self discipline is one of the most important indicators of intelligence any being can have. Opinions like the one in your picture are almost always shared by idiots and hedonist who possess a deficiency of self awareness and humility. "Wars fought by idiots, nations administered by cowards" ect.

He's also fat by has own admission. The irony of this thread is that this guy's tweet is exactly the kind of thing a midwit would say. Only midwits feel the compulsive need to express these purposefully obnoxious 'takes'. At no point when he was writing this did he stop and ask himself why he was doing it, that lack of introspection and self-critical thought is the hallmark of midwittery

Honestly there's a bit of truth to this guy's statement, at least in my situation. The realization hit me yesterday that I don't really do... anything. I lift, obviously. I brown IST. I go to class so that I can get a degree. One day I will use that degree to get a job to feed and house myself. But I don't do anything special, I don't do anything interesting, I don't known any special or useful knowledge outside of basic fitness. I just sort of exist. I think I just need to find a real hobby or two, but I can't think of anything worth pursuing that would actually keep me interested or allow me to meet other people, and I don't want to have to force myself to like something.

Even if you have a different hobby that would count as something else you "just do" or would be a consumerist item you purchase. The rat race of capitalism makes "who you are" synonymous with what you buy and what you do for work.

I'm aware of this, ideally it would he a hobby that's inexpensive to free. I used to draw a lot in the past, only with pencil and paper, so I might try to get into that again. Or I could try to read more, the library is free.

you need a hobby that produces something: goods, art, stories, skills that you can share. not all hobbies are consumption, in fact the worthwhile ones mostly arent (unless you get into like mountaineering or le travel or something) You do need some basic tools to start but after that its pretty much up to you to produce your interest. its supposed to be something you enjoy but if you are literally just doing it to be interesting, then it gives you something to talk about when someone says 'what have you been up to?'

"Work" refers to more than just your job. If you do charity work you don't get any money for example. Or doing handywork for your house. Making stuff like chairs is obviously work even if you don't have a job at the chair factory

        >The rat race of capitalism makes "who you are" synonymous with what you buy and what you do for work.

I've been working hard to change the way I interact with people I'm meeting for the first time. What's the first fricking question we always ask people when we meet them?
        >What do you do?
Frick that. You're more than a job. So I've been asking people different questions to start things off. "What is your favourite thing to do when you have friends from out of town visit?" shit like that. It also provides a better way to have conversations flow since you are now talking about things that interest them, whereas the "what do you do for a living" question isn't very stimulating for most people.

yes, you are just a collection of your actions. deal with it.

Ultimately, nothing you do "really" matters in the grand scheme of things from a legacy standpoint.

Just think of all of the humans that have ever lived. The billions upon billions. How many do we remember by name or can bring up in conversation casually? Very few. I promise you, millions of great men have come, produced amazing things for society and their community and their family and lived for great noble causes, died, and were completely forgotten after two generations. And these were people that actually did amazing things.

The people who history has written down are a tiny fraction of a fraction of people.

Even among today's influential people, only a very small handful will be remembered 1000 years from now (assuming we're still here). People today who are influencing the world will be forgotten a mere 20 years after their death and never spoken of again.

All this to say, do things that you enjoy because you enjoy them. Change the world because you want to. Change your life because you want to. Not because of what you "think" you need to do.

So college then? Best time to have this realization. Start reading, I mean really reading. Like the other anon said, get a creative hobby. It's important to have your character and beliefs consistently challenged and to have the feeling of knowing that you've made something. I think its more that midwits simply do what they hear echoed to them, and for the past ever so long they've been hearing that self-indulgence is good.

Like, they don't actually think hard about what to do, their inner voice is simply a command to them rather than a consideration to evaluate. If they hear their inner voice say one thing, then to them its fact.
I think this is kind of like how hypnosis and propaganda works. Intelligent people are less susceptible to those things compared to midwits since they actually evaluate ideas instead of act on them just by the merit of it bouncing in their head. Interestingly, many (but not all) people who are considered less intelligent than the norm don't fall into these types traps either since they don't actually have an inner voice and merely act intuitively through thoughts that aren't made in a language.
Basically I'm saying midwits are buying into propaganda telling them to have unhealthy lifestyles. You parrot enough slogans to them, they obey.

one the most revealing indicators of intelligence is the feeling of not being very intelligent because you are much smarter than others and by extrapolation can realize that there are others still that are much smarter than you.

One of the dumbest guys I know really thought he was going to the NBA as a 6'5" center for a 2AA highschool team and then got to college and became suicidal because he was so bad compared to real hoopers.

Need for cognition and physical activity are inversely correlated to a large degree, so yes and no.

    >"what is need for cognition"
Measured by frequency of voluntarily engaging in cognitively demanding tasks for pleasure, as well as how long it takes for someone to get bored when doing something that takes a lot of thinking. It's a pretty standard metric, although niche.

Basically smarter people tend to be fitter than dumber people for a given circumstance (e.g. among all blue collar mechanics the smarter ones will also tend to be fitter than the dumber ones) but, on the whole, smarter people tend to be neither extremely fit or extremely unfit. Thinking takes a lot of time and energy and unironically if you think a lot you get pretty exhausted.

Nah, but high IQ will stop most from getting crazy bodies. The incremental gain on time invested as a natural is laughable if you're anything more than ~3 years in and it requires significantly less time/volume to maintain than it does to gain.

Mitwits are intelligent enough to be good at coming up with persuasive arguments, which means they’re good at rationalizing why they are small and weak.

Eventually, someone who is actually intelligent should be able to realize that the arguments their brain is coming up with to protect their self-image are stupid.

I know three languages to the extent that I can easily communicate with natives, four if you count Latin, which I cannot speak but understand in writing well enough to read the Gaulic War in its original version.

I have read books by Victor Hugo, Voltaire, Luo Guanzhong, Thomas Mann, Dante Alighieri and many other classic authors. My favorite book is either "Les Miserables" or "Die Buddenbrooks", both of which I equally treasure.

I read Wikipedia articles about stuff whenever something interests me, at least five per week, and memorize most of the facts.

And YES, I DO LIFT WEIGHTS.

It is complete and utter midwit cope to think that physical strength and intellectual aptitude are somehow mutually exclusive. In fact, I think it's a major problem of our times that this differentiation exists.
