One thing I've read about them is that they can eat tires. So be careful with that.

I've had one of these, a cheap one, for a couple of years. Overall it's definitely worth it if it keeps you doing cardio. Indoor biking is extremely boring though, and these things are noisy, so I use USB headphones and watch movies while I do my indoor bike training. Pretty comfy really.

        >that they can eat tires

Mine certainly does. I just use a cheap smooth rear tire on mine tho.

I've got the Songmics one from Amazon with a bunch of reviews and it works fine. I have the resistance set max and the tire against the spindle pretty tight and have never seen any tire wear black dust. I'd assume the cheap $30 one isn't much different and should work fine. My bike didn't need the included quick release so I can remove it and ride it outside in 10 seconds. These things are loud with mountain bike tires so if noise is a problem maybe replace the back tire with a smooth cruising style tire.

        >quick release

I have 2 bikes anyway, my main outdoor MTB and a spare that I just keep clipped to the indoor trainer. But if you only have 1 bike and can't afford another, quick release is great when the weather is less predictable.

what the frick? Just ride your bike outside.

Cycle your bike like a real human.
Absolute virgin energy wasting money to not go anywhere.

        >Just ride your bike outside.

I overwhelmingly prefer riding outside, but when it's below 50F my ears and feet get quite cold with the wind. I live in Colorado, riding in the rain/snow/cold fricking sucks. Stop being contrarian homosexuals, there are legitimate reasons for wanting to train indoors.

Yeah. That's the rub. I'm looking for something basic to try out to offer some variety alongside my treadmill. I was actually looking at this one since it's $20 and I have some Amazon money I need to spend.

        >basic

Basic is fine, the only thing I don't like about the device itself is that it doesn't let the bike lean from side to side, like you do when you are pedaling standing up. You can get better ones that let you do that but I'm a cheap israelite.

        >adult hobbies
        >one of the main arguments is that you can hook it up to play video games while you ride

        >one of the main arguments is that you can hook it up to play video games while you ride

If you can play vidya while training on one of these you're not training anywhere close to hard enough, fat boy.

you don't have to ride it when it's raining very hard

I used one while I was training for iornman I spent insane hours on mine. They work perfectly mine lookes similar to pic resistance was magnetic. Resistance is largely constant and is changed by changing gears makes it cheaper.

You get what you pay for. If you get a cheap wheel on trainer like you posted, make sure you get a slick tire to put on your wheel. If you actually biked with that mountain bike tire on, you would go deaf.

I suggest if you go with a wheel on trainer, get cadence and speed sensors, and run it with zwift.

Get a slightly nicer one, called a smart trainer that you can use with Zwift. It is like playing a video game by riding your bike and much more fun. They can measure your power output and control the resistance to simulate outdoor riding pretty convincingly.

Riding on a normal stationary bike gets excruciatingly boring very quickly.

When he says slightly nicer he means go from 30 to around 500 bucks for something you may not even like.

One thing that bugs me is that I have no idea what the difference between the different types of assemblies for the resistance wheels are.

You can get a Tacx smart flow for 249 Euros new and considerably less if you buy used. That thing is what I use.

            >Thinks zwift is a video game and not an interactive training tool.

You couldn't do alp du zwift in under 2 hours if you had a gun to your head fat b***h.

Get a fan and a squishy mat to put the bike trainer on. You'll regret not having either one of them.
