        Fair enough, there are many different ways to achieve the same goal. This is just the method that works the best for me, and I think it would also work well for others as well. But if carrying heavy shit makes your calves grow, then keep doing it

      Doing calf raises on the edge of a raised surface means greater ROM because your heals can go below the starting point.

      you can it is just not as effective. off of a platform or with an incline is best. if you are doing them like OP using dumbbells for weight incline is the best since focusing on keeping balance off of a platform can be tough especially if really pushing yourself and feeling the stretches.

      You don't need much weight if you do the movement strictly and unilaterally. Most of the people I see doing tons of weight on calf raises are doing partials while using their achilles tendon to rebound out of the bottom, if you actually go all the way down and pause it becomes much more difficult.

              Many different ways to get to the same goal. And do you see the problem here? Their calves need to be stimulated constantly to grow, because that's the only way to get enough stimulus because the achilles tendon does most of the work. With the way I do calf raises the calf muscles have to do all the work, so I don't have to do anywhere near as much volume. I get very sore from just one set (in fact I'm sitting here with sore calves right now lol) which is great because I don't have to do absurd amounts of volume.

              tl;dr: I don't want to be fat for a decade just to get big calves, I want them now

                Sure, but the reason why I mentioned it is because it's the only reason why I can't do more sets, I would get too sore if I tried adding more (at least right now). I've put 20kg on my single leg calf raises over the last few months, and my calves are visibly bigger, so it certainly worked
