Don't we have the technology now to create healthy foods that taste like junkfood?

Don't we have the technology now to create healthy foods that taste like junkfood? Imagine eating tomatoes that taste like a deep fried mars bar, but still contain their healthy properties like regular tomatoes. This might even solve the obesity epidemic. What is taking so long?

It's never going to happen. "Junk food" is the result of trying to make the cheapest slop you can possibly feed to consumers.

Issues that stems from technological progress get resolved by further progress.
If you want lower living standards as well as being an easy target for the more technologically advanced societies then by all means, feel free to regress.

Tomatoes already taste good you fat moron

That's already been invented. Just fry the tomato. Obesity is caused by being a fat moron who eats too much, it has nothing to do with food choices.

How legit is that OP pic? I’d guess it’s bullshit. Isn’t fat distribution purely genetic?

It's from an Indian fat scan clinic, I think. Fat distribution is genetic.

What do you think of your picture, then? I have eliminated everything unhealthy from my diet. By now I've already broken my joints from overtraining. I still haven't lost any weight in five years. I have stress related attacks every day because I have bad OCD and my excess weight is in my lower abdomen. Apparently, the only way I can lose weight is by reducing the amount of food so low that I get sick from it. I've tried that too, but the problems just keep getting worse.

Why? I really don't want my steaks to taste like a snickers bar.

You could eat nothing but "healthy" food all day; if it contains more calories than you burn you're going to gain weight. The cruel irony of humans is that we're really fricking efficient. It takes a small amount of food to power us for a really long time. Back when we were hunter gatherers in the tundra this is how we survived. Now that we have abundance, however, it's killing us, because we instinctively still seek out any food we can get because "who knows when the next meal will be here." We'd be better off focusing our efforts on making things that tasted like food but contained no calories.

I don’t think this is how taste works really. What you’re kind of talking about is like sugar alchohol or other artificial sweeteners that can trick you into thinking it’s sugar but zero calories. But if you take a tomato for example, it’s going to taste acidic because it is acidic. If you want it to taste more basic like chocolate I believe you’re going to need to add a base. Are there synthetic bases equivalent to aspartame, where you could add a gram and it would be enough to trick the body into thinking it’s very basic when it’s not? I kind of feel like no, but who knows. Either way I don’t think it’d be good or useful. Better to just take some slop jello type concoction with good micronutrients and make that taste good using the same tech.

Quest bars were made with this explicit idea in mind. Health is more than macronutrients though, it's likely impossible to even approximate micronutrients in real food; let alone to replicate it in frankenfoods. Meat substitutes would fail on this alone were it not for the deadly fat profiles too.
