i pay $70 a month in japan for a gym that has 2 power racks and 3 benches for free weights. i only have room for a pull-up bar in my 50 square meter apartment

Truth. I started building one in 2020 during quarantine
    >barbell+plates
    >adjustable bench
    >adjustable dumbbells
    >squat rack (also has chin-up bar)
    I’ve since added misc stuff
    >Swiss bar for novelty
    >landmine attachment

I miss cables and rowing machines but I’m not willing to drop 500-1000 on one. Maybe later

I have a small Anytime Fitness near my house that has none of these problems. Its not large enough to sustain a lot of people, so there's only ever a max of like 10 people in the building, they don't allow anyone under 18 so no zoomers come hog the squat rack and leg press. Also everyone who goes there is nice and I've met several gymbros.

can't beat that. A basic home gym is way above €1000, with that I can gym 10 years,

Same here. I'm a trainer at an Anytime Fitness, and while it's small, I've met quite a few gym bros here. It's nice to have someone to talk about Manga and shit with between sets.

i refuse to believe anyone that has a full time job and no home gym ever gets the physique they want unless they genuinely fell for the ottermode meme.
going to a gym easily adds over an hour to each workout.

I usually take longer breaks when I'm training in my homegym. There also is the bugenhagen effect: at home you can slam another coffee, rest another 5min and try for the 3rd time to get that pr. You wouldn't do that at a commercial gym

You're definitely wasting time somewhere, be it playing vidya or posting on this board. Just block off 5 hours or so for the commute. I usually let my mind wander or plan out the day in the meantime anyway

Not having a gym in your house is like not having a toilet. And driving to a big building full of nothing but shitters that you pay ever month for access to just to take a shit.

Find a different gym that’s closer? Is bigger with more equipment? Go at a different time? Use different equipment? I like going to the gym because it motivates me to be around other motivated people, I get competitive and use fewer excuses and work harder and it’s nice to be checked out or check out fit women from time to time.

Went to a 24 hour gym and sometimes I’d go really late thinking that it’d be empty. There was always a few people there who were working just as if not harder than me and I realized I was full of shit for making all of my bullshit excuses. I have a yoga mat and I while I did some flexibility routines initially I just stopped because I like to relax at my house. Stepping outside puts me into a different mindset . The fact I got to the gym means I’m going to at least try since I’m already there. A home gym would be easier, but I think it’d become another piece of furniture over time.

"hey bro can I work in with you"
Is that really so hard to say anon?

Speaking as someone who has a home gym (and still pays 45$ a month for a commerical gym membership) you're wildly underestimating both the benefit of having a community and the cost of a home gym.
I spent probably 1200 on a bar/cage/weights/a decent bench/a seated calf raise machine and I still have to talk myself down from buying more shit
