dumbbell deadlift

How come I never see anyone talk about the dumbbell deadlift? Seems like it would solve all the problems of the barbell deadlift, and it can be done in gyms where deadlifting is not allowed.

    How so?

Less injury to the back. Barbell deadlift is a more awkward position from the front while dumbbell deadlift would be more to the sides.

No its not moron you hold the dbs so they move up inline with the centere of legs, not to the side.

When db deadlifting you hold the dbs infront of your legs close to them and move them up dead centre of the legs when doing the dl motion to top of lift then back down so the each weight is roughly inline with centre of each leg infront then back up etc, you dont deadlift with the dbs by your side. They are held infront of you against your body .

Like this? That's the same exact motion of a conventional deadlift. You changed nothing. The barbell is kept close to you and in fact should be dragging across your shins and thighs.

Yeah thats a db deadlift, you have better freedom of movement with dbs. Its not weights to the side of the body, thats called something else.

                >le freedom of movement
Explain why that is in any way a benefit in definitive terms.

Because the BAR isnt supporting and helping stabalize the weight, its all your core legs back and abs etc as each weight is independant of eachother. Bar is for lifting heavier weights because its easier to lift heavier weights with a bar.

Seems really easy to drop the DBs on your feet

I do DB RDLs. Much like regular RDLs you have to use straps to get a good stimulus.
Last time I checked my DB RDL to conventional deadlift ratio is 0.67
If you do 30 reps, which is the highest amount of reps you can do and still get muscle gains, with 100lbs in each arm, it's like 50% of your 1RM so in terms of conventional I'd say it's around 600lbs.
I like to start the movement with the dumbbells at my side and as I go down I rotate them towards the front, not sure if it does anything but it feels right.

Both bar and db are good but if I had to choose id choose db, as im not a powerlifter and dont care about mega heavy weight which is what bar is for.

because theres not a lot of women on the board

Also if you had symmetry issues, muscle imbalances bar will make them worse while db will fix them over time

So best if both would be doing your sets heavy with bar and then finishing with db sets to failure suicide or dropset style...
