DYEL tier lifts

Name a lift that immediately signifies the lifter is either a noobie or an utter homosexual. For me it's cable flies. Especially in a crowded gym with one cable station. Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with cable flies, but every time the person I see doing these just sucks at life. Every single time.

    Tricep kickbacks.

      why?

      Anonymous

Triceps kickbacks are literally the only freeweight exercise where the load is highest at the bottom of the motion. Unless your gym has a triceps extension machine, this is pretty much the ONLY exercise where your tris are doing the most work when your elbow is fully extended. With cg presses/dips/rope extensions/skullcrushers etc your tris are doing very little work in the second half of the extension and it's hard to overload them this way.

I've been seeing a ton of "fitness/lifting" accounts on social media passing around this advice against kickbacks in favor of low cable tri extensions, but it's clearly meme advice and they don't have their own critical understanding of what the exercise is doing

chinups dont work triceps so I'm gonna disregard your entire post. However, isolation exercises are not memes and are great ways to complement compound exercises and round out your muscles through stressing them in different ranges of motion or different mechanical scenarios

        Anonymous

Not that guy, but I've always seen them as a meme exercise as I've only ever seen complete DYELs doing them, or fat housewives with 0.5kg dumbbells trying to "tone" their arms.

          Anonymous

sure, I've seen plenty of DYELs doing them but they are the real fricking deal. I can closegrip press 225 and do dips with 80lb dumbbells between my legs--- both of them for reps to 10--- but i do triceps kickbacks with a 10lb dumbbell at the end of my workout using slow-ass timing and really milking the eccentric, and it fricking destroys my tris

How bout both? Though that lateral raise machine with the pads is pretty cringe

        Anonymous

I tried those for the first time the other day. I always do DB or plate lat raises. imo the lat raise machine probably works well assuming it fits your anatomy which it doesn’t for me. I think that’s the problem with a lot of machines. Work great for some people. For others it doesn’t work at all and is asking for an injury for no reason

I think people use improper form on that one. I put the seat as close as possible so I can get 90 degrees and it hits my glutes nicely. I’m at 330 for 10 now and I’m hoping for 400 for reps soon

        Anonymous

yeah, a lot of people dont put it as close and dont place their feet right, at that point it's an ego lift because you can lift more but youre not really doing it right

Kek moron. Dorian Yates used to love cable flies and pec deck. They work your chest much better than bench press does. The only homosexuals I see are homosexuals like OP that load up the bench press with more weight than they can lift with good form and then quickly do 8 half reps and then look around the gym as if everyone is supposed to be impressed

      >telling me how I lift

Dorian didn't build his chest with cables, just like he (and Mentzer) didn't do "1 set hit" to build their physiques from scratch. And cables are an accessory to the bb bench press for a reason. You have a lot of learning to do homosexual.

Yep, I actually had the same thought last week. Funny thing is you actually get a far better contraction with these of your pecs than benching but DYELs don't train with any intensity so resistance is futile at any rate.

Yeah same, not everyone's gonna make it and that's okay. Live laugh my homie.

For me, every LARPer that comes in with hecking based chucks on and does bb movements hasn't moved any weight.

I bench 140kg tyvm. Why does westside emphasise triceps training to increase bench? Wider grip benching increases pec activation but also can frick your shoulders up

Idk brah I finally started incorporating cable Flys into my routine after years of lifting and it definitely activates more of the muscle in comparison to DB Flys. Just my experience, though, I do see lots of dyels doing 10lb cable flys so maybe your onto something

      Anonymous

Cable flies are superior to DB flies, seated cable flies especially.
DB flies are garbage tier lift in general and bad for activation and feeling the muscle.

Cable machines in general. It's the only thing where you see men and women go at the same intensity. Like running too now that I think about it.

      Anonymous

generally agreed, but I do really like cable machines for seated rows and cable pulldowns because unlike machines you have lateral movement/stabilization freedom and unlike dumbells you have a much fuller, less restricted range of movement. with dumbbells typically the bench or the dbs themselves can get in the way of doing a really deep pull, and with the cable seated row you can set yourself up for whatever positioning works; torso upright, leaning back, leaning forward

also for seated cable rows--- unlike a bench where you can do seal rows or incline rows and your chest is pinned/immobilized against the bench, with cable rows you have total freedom to retract scapula/expand chest uninhibited, which is key to a good back exercise

DYEL is an appearance not a behaviour. If you are benching more than 2 plates but you look small and unmuscular, then you are DYEL. If you are doing some 4 plate deadlifts but you look like a stickman then you are DYEL. That's how it works. Ironically OP is probably DYEL
