Dysthemia

How do you deal with persistent low-level depression? I've had depression for years. It doesn't stop me from getting out of bed, going to work/school, working out, moving forward in life, etc. But everything typically feels meaningless and joyless, I have persistent low self esteem, and I just feel empty and sad almost all the time.

I know there are things I should be proud of/happy about but I don't feel the good feelings I know I should. I've lifted/ran every day so far this year except for missing 4 or 5 days. I'm tall and have been told by attractive girls that I'm good looking. I have a good physique and people comment on it. I was on my college's dean's list two years in a row and won some prestigious essay prize. People tell me I'm smart, good-looking, have a bright future, but I still feel low self esteem and hopeless.

Any health advice for this problem? I'm a 22 year old guy btw.

How do you not feel superior to every one else?
People should be crying tears of joy when I walk past them.

Have you tried taking any supplements (don't get on any fricking antidepressant scripts).

Unironically felt like you after a breakup with my gf, but the feelings lasted for a year someone on IST recommended looking into getting bloods done and found I was lacking in a few vitamins, zinc and iron. I take supps for them all now and feel much better, along with generally eating healthier.

Sometimes it is chemical, but don't take the chemicals given to you by psychiatrists because they will frick you and you will never be able to unfrick what they do to you.

      This.

I started taking a generic multivitamin for other reasons, and was blown away by how my mood lightened as a result.

Lsd increases serotonin temporary like an antidepressant. There are safer alternatives to this

You spend years trying to cope, battling your own mind. And it never gets any easier. Only thing I would try, if you've really got all those positive things going for you, to just keep up with the distractions. Keep your mind busy and the easiest way to do that is when you're around others and involved with others.

To get the satisfaction out of life you need to set goals and achieve them
If you've got the basics done (eating clean, lifting, going outside regularly, socialising) then you need to have goals otherwise you'll just coast in ennui.
You list a bunch of things that you think people need to do, not what you want to do. What do you want to do OP?

Dysthymia* I treat depression for a living. Treatment options are antidepressants, therapy, cardio, healthy diet (serotonin is made in the gut), strong social support, sunlight, and massage. Those are ways to increase serotonin. To increase dopamine (another chemical thought to be responsible for depression) you can get a gf and accomplish tasks (give your life meaning and work towards goals),

I have that to. Exercise and good sleep helps. Hobbies that make something or fix something help much more than video games & crap like that. An affectionate and cuddly wife/gf helps a ton.

You can get some drs to give you super low dose of some antidepressants, but you need to trust the Dr a lot. And you have to go in with a plan to get off of them. Never start a medicine without knowing the procedure for getting off of it.

I've heard talk therapy can help, but my Dr felt I'd be resistant to it. I think a lot anons would be.

I’m in a similar boat. I’m thinking about taking a heroic dose of some sort of psychedelic. Does anyone with experience have any recommendations?

may not be popular to say on this website, but you need friends that you can hang out with regularly.
