Both my ear canals were almost completely blocked a few months ago because I stupidly thought I could remove the wax with a q-tip.
I couldnt hear much, and I even had some pain because the q-tip had pushed against the ear drum in one of my ears.
I finally went to a doctor that flushed both my ear canals with warm water and massive, dark, clumps of impacted ear wax came out.
My hearing after that was almost TOO good for a few weeks. Just lushing the toilet, turning on a tap of water or being on a bus was actually too loud and I had to cover my ears cus it hurt too much

7/10 experience, felt great to get rid of the wax but I had a headache for a long time due to the increased sensitivity to sound.

You're supposed to swab your ears after a shower when it's all loosened up and do it every day so the wax never builds up. Been doing it that way since childhood. Also I have very sensitive hearing.

        >You're supposed to swab your ears after a shower when it's all loosened up
absolutely not you're never supposed to swab the inside of your ears, even if you get some wax out it packs it down. The best thing to do is to let it come out naturally.

Okay, actual answer? I'm bored at work. I go on /plg and get the conditioning PDF's to learn more about what I can/should do to work on my overall health. My company doesn't even know how to copy and paste so I can stay on here all day and download at my leisure. Then I read after my works done, go home and workout.
My honest suggestion would be for you to do the same, /plg has the best info on this board for fitness and the sticky was left to die in a hot car after 2016.
Everything else is just shitposting and fun. Any person on here that actually works out doesn't need to ask the board questions and doesn't care what you think of coffee.

Maybe. If your tinnitus is caused by a hard plug of wax putting pressure on your eardrum, irrigation could fix it. Most tinnitus is caused by problems deeper in the ear.

I need to do this once every 6 months or so because I wear Earplugs to bed habitually and one day you'll wake up with compacted wax and realise you made your own earplug. You take them out and on one side there's no change.

    Here is what I do:
    >put olive oil in ear
    >lie on my side for 30 mins
    >scoosh the inside of my ears short pumps of hot water from a bottle with a small opening
    >repeat for about 5 minutes over the sink or bath until wax comes out
    >keep going until your hearing is suddenly HD

    feels great afterwards
People tell you not to do this, but I've been doing it for 10 years with no tinnitus or anything.

sounds good but i think ill go to the pharmaisraelite tomorrow and ask for EARBASSBOOSTER4000 spray. ive never had issues with wax in my ears but i think some cleaning would be good. ive read about your method on a quick search after reading your post but i dont trust the olive oil i purchased this month, it tastes weird

        Anonymous

Yeah that's fair. The pharma version also has some sort of active ingredient that breaks down the wax in a bubbly, fizzy sort of way that I'd kinda nice feeling.

I do think that softening it up with oil (could be any sort- peanut oil is the one commonly sold for this use) and then blasting it with hot water is just as good.
Hope it clears up soon bro, take a walk after, enjoy listening to birds in 4k

pretty sure there are online resources to check if the olive oil you bought is actual real olive oil.
just look up the brand and product and see if theres any discussion on it
iirc there was some study done on many olive oils and it turned out that like 2 or 3 of them were real oil and not a rapeseed mix

Be warned, those sprays often contain steroids which can encourage bacterial ear infections

One time one ear got clogged for days. Tried the oils stuff but that didn't work. Figured I'd try using my waterpik on the lowest setting, and aimed at my ear wall to avoid hurting the drum, to get stuff out. It was incredibly effective (I think the oil helped) and also kinda revolting the amount of reddish wax that was in there. But I wouldn't do it unless it clogged because ears clean themselves for the most part.

Wax is meant to be there, it’s an antibiotic and physical protection, and pushes out on its own over time as the skin grows outward. Obviously if impacted you should remove it though, you don’t really want tinnitus or temporary hearing issues. Syringing isn’t ideal because there are decent risk levels of damaging the eardrum and/or infection from either contamination or water sitting there too long. Not uncommon tbh. The newest irrigation system has outward instead of forward facing nozzle so that at least is safer on the eardrum. Some GP clinics will have better tools but you’ll more easily find clinics around you to pay (not too much) for micro suction wax removal method. Or get the video camera/scoop to try DIY, or some olive oil to soften things and it can come out on its own. Q tips aren’t a good tool, and I think too much irritation in there will just make you produce more wax. A lot of GP doctors either won’t notice at all or won’t deal with wax when they see it, and yeah ENTs are a bit overqualified yeah but if the wax is really deep or touching the drum they would be best to go to.

Once I had impounded wax from an ear infection. moronic nurses treated with a water flush and punctured my left eardrum. I felt a sharp stabbing pain and told them to stop. They looked inside and said "oh yeah the wax is cleared" and they left. THEY NEVER SAID, OOPS WE ACTUALLY JUST MADE A MISTAKE. Eventually it healed on it's own. Years later I had wax buildup removed from an ENT via the suction tool method. 10/10 By far the superior method if you have sensitive ears or previous problems with waster flushing.

everyone in this thread is frickin moronic. your particular ear wax situation is frickin genetic. most people probably don't need to flush impacted wax out but if you do need to you will frickin know it. it's easy to do and not that big a deal. let olive oil or a hydrogenperoxide/water mix sit in your ear for 15 min. then gently squirt water in until the wax comes out. every couple months i will have to coax a raisin size chunk out it's gross.

      >your particular ear wax situation is frickin genetic.
This. My left ear builds dark brown oily earwax that I have to clean myself whilst my right ear works normally and I don't need to clean it.

It's unnecessary. Just use ear wax softening drops, 4 times a day, and it will all come out on its own in a week. Pharmajews won't tell you this, but ear irrigation can damage eardrums. Of course the latter is more convenient.

When I went to MEPS the doctor couldn't see my ear drums properly so I had to get them cleaned out. The lady sat there for about an hour squirting hot water into my ears. And they still weren't perfectly cleared afterwards. It was super embarrassing for me too because I could tell she frustrated and got the shitty job while her coworkers just chilled out. Do not underestimate the power of cleaning out your ears.
