Ego lifting meme

Is it real or just a big cope? Isn't the point of going to the gym to lift as heavy as you can in order to progress?

There's a difference between pushing yourself and ego lifting.
    >Isn't the point of going to the gym to lift as heavy as you can in order to progress?
The point is to use your fricking head when you do it.

I find ego lifting beneficial. Only a moron really thinks everyone's body composition, genetics, and morphology can be compared with another, but on a surface level, the competitive drive to push yourself beyond your own limits whether it's based on someone else or not is always welcome.

    >lifts with rotating gym buddies
    >always shit talk them while they lift and try to make them laugh mid-set to call them a b***h or that their ex left then because they are weak pussies
    >we go by a rule where if you split your set early whether by rest or failure, you have to add 150% more reps to finish your current set
    >encourage by discouraging

This is the gayest thing I've ever read on the internet. You don't even know what ego lifting is.

It's a one way ticket to snap city and then you'll be a DYEL forever.

    >Is it real?
Of course it’s fricking real. If you over-exert yourself lifting shit that you can’t handle, then you’re super likely to get hurt. This is a no brainer.

Basically, you’re supposed to lift a weight that is manageable with correct form but hard, then keep going until failure or near failure.

Have you seen a DYEL bounce the weight off his chest while lifting his butt off the bench just to get 2 plates? Or the guy who quarter squats 300 lbs? They didn’t grow at all, but they’re now going to tell their friends they “benched 2 plates” or “squatted 3 plates.”

It only leads to injurie, muscle tears which ruin your look forever and can short muscle bellies etc. Ego lifter is for shitters.

There should be an accepted definition of "ego lifting". Since youtubers started spreading the term, whenever someone struggles for a rep everyone says "bro stop ego lifting". Truth is, ego lifting only happens if you do it to impress others while having no idea what the frick you're doing

      Black pulled post my dude
You should lift heavy, you should push yourself
You shouldn't go significantly beyond what you know to be your limits, you shouldn't let your form faulter, you shouldn't try to 1rm pr every time

Start cheating out a few extra rows and push with your knees for the last few reps of military press and you'll change your mind. Cheat out reps until you are grunting yourself out of breath.

that's just a natty dyel using too much weight.
You actually think those are "roided balloon muscles" whatever that even means?

As heavy as you can correctly and safely, yes.
Ego lifters don't bother with those pesky details.

Ego lifting is lifting more than you can do with safe form, putting your ego above your health. When most people say "ego lifting" though, what they really mean is "lifting more than I can". They're just dyel's trying to justify why they're stuck at 30 lb. curls or <2pl8 bench.

ego lifting means putting way more weight on the bar than you can normally handle. Example: your working sets at 90% power for bench is 100kg and you can manage 3 reps, with a PR of 110kg for 1. A progression would mean getting to the point of managing 5 reps @ 100 and 3 reps @ 110. An ego lift would mean attempting a PR of 120kg.
