Why, are there only 2 stores in your whole city, one of them being lidl and the other, aldi?
If you don't like the prices there, go to another shop for fricks sake

Magerquark is the goat Aldi cheapgay protein source. Put some nuts and berries in there if you wanna be fancy. Put some garlic and herbs in, some water to make it a little more liquid and use it as a dip for roasted potatoes. Or mix it 1:1 with water and guzzle it down like the disgusting slob you are. It's cheap easy and versatile.
I like their high protein tortillas too. Put some cheese and beans in there and you have an affordable high protein quesadilla. Also a good way to get some greens and veggies in.
Buying whole chickens is also a lot cheaper than just buying breasts. Dismembering the chicken is pretty easy after you've done it a couple of times. Canned tuna and sardines are also a cheap(ish) protein source you can get at either store

Be careful with magerquark don't over do it you might get pimples from it.
I've been eating it for 3+ months everday a 500g carton so I probably over did, after not eating it for 2 weeks my skin went back to normal, just one thing to keep in mind.

We have a few Lidls here from last year. Personally haven't visited them yet but as far as I've heard the prices are pretty much the same there as in other stores.
Don't know where you are located but here (Estonia) the cheapest options are Prisma and Maxima.

The meat and fish in Aldi and Lidl is really poor quality. I would stay away from it. Just bulk buy from a butcher´s. You can get like a kilo of chicken breasts for 10 euros or less in most EU countries if not all.

I hate buying chicken from lidl. taste is always off or got none

that being said I bought 2 whole chickens there today for 13 euro. 2,8kg, have no idea how much is pure meat of that but it was kinda cheap.

Whole chickens have like maybe an lb of bone? Probably less. But you can use all the leftovers to make stock and cook rice in it. Get that collagen and left over protein and shit.

Luckily here in the UK both of these and most other stores now have self-checkout. Haven't been paying more than 2 quid in 6 months. Scan two items then simply take the rest. Eventually they will fix this, but in the meanwhile I'm eating like a king.

I don't think I'd have the balls to do that. A couple years ago I accidentally spilled blueberries inside my grocery bag and just took them home without paying. Still feel a little bad about that

Stealing from big chains is morally the right thing to do. Would never do that in my local mom n pop shop.

I was thinking the same but going through the huge amount of people shopping there daily to find who stole a few dozen euros wouldn't even be worth it. As for people in line the vast majority minds their business anyway, you'd have to be pretty unlucky to be called out

the sales repeat periodically, so most of the time, if you buy the sack of potatos and rice on sale, you should get enough to last at least for next two weeks

For overall buying, I prefer Aldi. I get milk and quark from there. Blend together and you got nice protein drink.
From Lidl, I'm taking skyr yoghurt. Some brand (Poland) sell them in 330 g cups. Whole cup is like ~40 g of protein.

Aldi UK sells these, the whole cup has about 65g protein, usually on sale for £1.19 but original price I think 1.49. Ive been mixing mine with oven cooked sweet potatoes, a bit of honey, and double cream. Nice bulking snack. But good cutting snack on it’s own.

The protein puddings are fine, I get them from both lidl and aldi, but the big protein yogurt tub gets you way more protein for the same price. And I’ve yet to see them at Aldi. But lidl has large Greek yogurt tubs which is nice.

Not sure if it's the same in Europe, but in the US grocery stores have weekly sales and loss leaders. There's usually a heavily discounted sale on boneless skinless chicken breast every other month and I stock up + freeze it all. It's always a different grocer. I bought 50lbs for $100 last time. I look out for discounted ground beef and chuck roast too.
Just combine with cheap rice, pasta, or potatoes.

Almost Every grocery store and local butcher will have whole chickens (baby, medium, large) for VERY cheap. This is the most protein you can get for the price, way cheaper than the biggest tub of cheap whey.
Roast it to golden in the oven with butter and a stock cube, baste it every so often. Never gets boring.

    Non-fat greek yogurt
    Low fat cottage cheese
    Chicken when it's on sale
    Tilapia
Eggs are still okayish (inflation plus avian flu means they'll be up a for a little while yet)
    Rice in the bigger bags
    Beans in the bigger bags
Frozen veggies are cheap and can be stored easy

Quark is now double the price than it was a year ago. I hate this so much. It just rose another 10 cent last week. I switched to chickpeas. Not because I can't afford it, but because I don't play along with their stupid games, all those price raises are extremely arbitrary. Butter just got cheaper again while milk and quark got more expensive. Beer and cheap snacks are still the same price. Frick that.

How much are groceries for you europoors? For 2 weeks (I use Aldi US and go to a whole foods markets for specifics like edamame and watercress) and I spend 50-60 burger bucks on average per week, single, maybe up 30-40% from a year ago but it's not unsustainable. I do eat a lot of fish which hasn't grown in price quite as much though, it's mostly staples like eggs/milk/cheese/chicken that's gone up.

It depends, like always. It's a bit hard for me to measure. Years ago, me and my partner lived on 100 euros per month, but we were poorgays then. Now, we live on 300 euros per month, but I got a good paying job last year so our standards rose a bit. Coincidentally, it happened at the same time prices rose. Still, many things are notably more expensive. Quark went from around 50 cent to 1 euro per 250g. Milk from 85 cent to 1,15 per litre. Minced beef from 5,50 at my turkish butcher to 8,50. A can of corn from 69 cent to 99 cent. Tomato paste per 200g from 69 cent to 1,19. Flour from 45 cent to 79 cent. Sugar from 65 cent to 1,19. Eggs is still 1,99 for 10 eggs, as it's been for over a year now. A certain type of smoked salmon I liked to eat went from 1,79 to 2,79.
Like I said, beer's the same, chocolate's the same, cheap sweets are the same. Things like crisps and nachos went up, however.

Farmers have started putting up Vending Machines with local products like meat, milk and eggs. The prices are usually decent like 1 Euro for 1 Liter of Raw Milk and there is always cool seasonal stuff available. The one next to me carries raw cream, kefir, butter and a bunch of other basics but its all much more high quality than the things you get at the normal store while sometimes even being cheaper.
