Experimental Therapy for Baldness?

Hey IST. Im 23 years old, and I'm balding fast. I'm not completely bald yet, but my hair has is becoming way too thin.
Unfortunately for any of us with this problem, everything you try to find out there will lead.you to some bullshit half assrd treatment which is only a way for Pharma companies to make money. For example, minoxidil and finasteride are two drugs which slow down hair loss, but don't really fix it; and if you stop using them, your hair will fall out. Perfect money making model for Pharma companies. Same goes with hair transplants; it's just a way for doctors to make money, because even if you get a transplant, these hairs will still fall out and you may have to get more.
I'm sure that these frickers are blocking any progress on drugs that could actually help with hair loss. Does anyone have any information on experimental drugs or therapies which can help me stop hair loss and regrow hair? I'm sure there's something out there. Don't say embrace the baldness; I'm short and have a weird shaped head so that won't work

I have both 1 mm and 0.5 mm dermarollers, i use the 1 mm one once a weak with min 5% and fin topical 0.1%. There is 0 new hair growth on my scalp, and hair is still falling out, there is only slight new hair growth on my forehead by those are very small tiny thin hairs which will probably just shed off before becoming thick or long
I don't want to use these Pharma israelite treatments that once you stop will make you bald, I want something that will actually work. Dude the CEO of Hims is a Palestinian Christian who doesn’t really like Israel. Just use topical finasteride/minoxidil and wait until gene therapy fixes this shit forever in 10-15 years. Though if you’re going bald this early you probably need to shave or take 1mg fin pills. Going bald is so bad that running the gauntlet with fin or dut is worth it. You’ve got like a 1% risk of sides from fin vs a 100% chance of going bald which is basically like dying in modern society unless you’re black in which case you can just shave.

    >minoxidil and finasteride are two drugs which slow down hair loss, but don't really fix it;
    They do fix it.
    >and if you stop using them, your hair will fall out
In order to completely stop all hairloss forever without needing another treatment you'd either need to genetically modify your hair follicles (and only your hair follicles!) to stop having androgen receptors or you'd need to clone hair. Both options aren't feasible within the next 20 years.
    >because even if you get a transplant, these hairs will still fall out
Wrong, transplanted hair is DHT-resistent and stays forever. It's the hair behind it that will continue to get lost unless you take fin/dut.
    >I'm sure that these frickers are blocking any progress on drugs that could actually help with hair loss.
There's several treatments in phase 1/2/3 trials right now, both in the US and in China.

      >Male pattern hairloss starts with DHT attaching to your follicles.
DHT makes your hair thicker and denser. That's why men grow body hair and beards. Also, if you go on testosterone/steroids the body hair and beard gets even thicker.
      So DHT stimulates hair growth.
There is some other reason that hair falls out on the top of the head in conjunction with DHT. My theory is poor blood supply is not giving the hair follicle enough nutrients to grow properly under the influence of DHT. So DHT under poor blood supply conditions shuts down the hair follicle because there is some kind of imbalance.
The exact same thing happens where men lose hair on the bottom of their legs first as they get older. It's because the lower legs/ankles are far away from the heart and therefore have poorer blood supply.
This is also why minoxidil works as it improves blood supply.
Pic is my hair before puberty at age 12 and after at age 20, my hair got two times thicker under the influence of DHT. Even my eyebrows got thicker.

Here is a picture of a perfectly healthy monkey that also loses it hair to DHT exposure.
Some do lose their hair, others don't.

          Anonymous

Yes because some have poor blood supply to the top of the head (furthest away from the heart, working against gravity). The fact is that DHT is a hair growth stimulator as long as the hair follicle is getting the right nutrients to grow and stay healthy, that's why men are hairier than women, they have more testosterone/DHT.

Probably inferior vascularization, combined with some kind of stress response locally to the scalp.
Isn't it a coincidence that a lot of treatments for balding are related to blood or blood supply? dermarolling, minoxidil, scalp massage, etc.

Theres probably multiple different things happening at the same time in people susceptible.
                -poor blood flow
-the poor blood flow might cause excessive DHT to overload the hair follicle under poor nutrient conditions
-the bodies inflammatory or immune system is overreacting to the above or some other scalp issue
-the bodies cells deteriorating in function due to aging. genetically weak hair follicles that degrade fast. Some people deteriorate faster. Like some people get grey hair earlier and faster than others, their melanin producing cells shut down faster
In people who bald easily they have unfortunate genetics when it comes to all these things.
I'm just guessing based on some common sense things I've noticed (like the leg hair loss during aging starting at the part furthest away from the heart where blood supply is weakest (cold feet and ankles are also a sign of poor blood flow in these areas). I'm not saying I'm right or anything.

There's also a correpation with the scalp tightening. All bald men have a tight scalp and all men with hair have a thicker looser scalp. There was even a study done where small amounts of botox were injected into the scalps of bald men causing them to regrow hair

The reason some men have poor nutrient supply to their scalp is because of the genetics lottery handing them scalp tissue follicles that that are susceptible to having DHT bind to receptors that otherwise would be bringing in nutrients and so the follicles die out over time.

              Anonymous

When DHT binds to follicle receptors and those follicles are properly nourished by good blood supply, this triggers hair growth.
When DHT binds to follicle receptors and those follicles are not properly nourished due to poor blood supply, this causes the hair follicle to slow or shut down function. There needs to be a balance between DHT and nutrients. When they are imbalanced DHT stresses the follicle and causes it to stop producing hair.
It's like sun only causes plants to grow if they are getting the right nutrients and water from the soil. Otherwise the sun damages the plant.

If this was true then men who don't experience MPB would have better scalp hair than women, but almost all men have less hair count and thinner individual hairs than almost all women. Teenage boys have less and thinner hair than geriatric women. DHT is the main culprit, but it goes deeper than that. Androgens in general, not just DHT, cause hair miniaturization, full stop, the important factor is how much androgens your hair can handle before it starts to miniaturize, EVERYBODY will experience miniaturization if they have enough androgens in their body. More plates more dates talks about blasting tren while on dutasteride, testing with absolutely zero DHT in his body, but extremely high testosterone, and experienced hair miniaturization, that halted once his testosterone was allowed to lower.
Block androgens, or go bald, those are your options, no prayers or pixie dust are going to save your hair.

The man is talking out of his ass. Yes there is a link between blood supply and hair but he's drawing a conclusion that androgenic hair loss is a blood supply issue and not a genetic one.

          Who says it's two years?
Minoxidil doesn't completely reverse the poor blood flow or the damage it caused in the past. And as you get older your vasculature only gets weaker. For example, older people are more prone to varicose veins or aneurisms as their veins deteriorate. It's not just your skin getting older and wrinklier as you get older, it's every organ made out of collagen, etc inside your body that you can't see with the naked eye. It just deteriorates as you age.

        Anonymous

You are right but you are also mistaken.
DHT in people without propensity to MPB helps hair grow thicker everywhere including the head, where there is MPB the DHT is used as a response to some inflammatory process occurring in the area then DHT is send there in much larger quantities than normal which causes miniaturization. blood flow also plays a role in this problem but at the end of the day DHT and blood flow are not the cause but a consequence of another problem that we don't know so we call it "genetics or predisposition".
The only ways we know to help this is by cutting DHT or improving blood flow.

          Anonymous

Improving bloodflow without cutting DHT only provides improvement for a bit while accelerating the problem since the more bloodflow the more DHT brought to the follicles.

Bros, I started oral minox and microdose oral finasteride too after using topical fin/min for months and trying normal doses of oral fin before that.

The hair shed I'm getting right now is fricking insane. When I comb my hair, fricking WADS of hairs come out. The worst part is, I can't tell if I'm shedding because the switch is working really well and unhealthy follicles are shedding out and rejuvenating, or if I'm shedding because it's NOT working and I'm shedding all the gains I made on topical fin/min.

It probably means it's working. Hair doesn't naturally go into massive simultaneous sheds like that unless caused by an illness or extreme cases of stress. The balding process is your hairs getting reduced to finer and finer hairs gradually over time until they simply don't grow back, not full hairs falling out all together.

Minoxidil isn't commonly used as blood pressure medication anymore nowadays because it can kill you due to water retetion around your heart.

Yeah at 8x or more the normal dose it's used for hair gains.

Most dudes taking oral min are taking 1.25-2.5mg daily.

1.25mg-2.5mg may be relatively safe imo but taking 5mg all at once could be dangerous.

        The frick is oral minoxidil?

I thought it seeped into the head and protected the follicle. What would a pill you ingest do?

Someone is eager to have a heart attack.
If you want to take 5mg per day, split it into two 2.5mg doses over the day.

Is.. is that big green line bad?

What would these levels be with topical minoxidil?

Minoxidil promotes bloodflow as a vasilodilator.

            CecilDrakeInSeattle

Is that all it does? Couldn't you just scalp massage?

But then again, minoxidil can make facial hair grow and then after it is activated, you no longer need it unlike on your head. I guess maybe those dormant facial hairs just need some blood flow and after that, they do it by themselves? Weird on that part.

But how the f would an oral minoxidil pill work then

            >as shown in the table.

Lol oh yeah didn't even see that. So it's nothing compared to the pills.

            >Minoxidil at regular doses (10-100mg) is known to cause heart failure in up to 5% of patients taking it

Alright no fricking way would I ever touch that.

The more a guy just wants hair, the more chances of him actually dying occur. Madness.

Most blood medication doesn't regrow hair (otherwise viagra would regrow hair which it doesn't). Minoxidil's mechanism for hair growth isn't well understood yet.

I used it many years ago, and haven't got an anal tumor yet, but that's still kinda scary, it should really still be a trail drug.

                >I just thought it seeped in and protected the follicle from dht attacking and shrinking it.
It actually doesn't, since minoxidil eventually loses efficiency in the absence of a 5AR blocker. Your hair follicles are still being destroyed in the background.

It actually makes it worse. The increased bloodflow that min alone causes just brings more DHT to the follicle to frick its shit up.

Ideal stack is low dose oral min/fin combined with normal dose topical min and low dose topical fin. Only shitty thing is that topical fin/min gives you fricking insane dandruff.

Afaik DHT is being produced near the hair follicles to begin with so it shouldn't matter.

So what would be the point in minoxidil only?

There is no point to minoxidil only unless you're using it on your beard which actually thrives on DHT.

Minoxidil can activate inactive hair follicles and make them grow while on it. In your beard, you can eventually stop using it and the activated hair follicle will still continue to grow even in the presence of DHT.

                >Minoxidil at regular doses (10-100mg) is known to cause heart failure in up to 5% of patients taking it.

1mg isn't overdosing at all. It gives you the most DHT suppression while still being a relatively low dose (compared to 5mg finasteride for BPH).
Personally, I handle 1mg/day with zero sides and only at 2mg/day do I start to feel depressed.

                Anonymous

                >It gives you the most DHT suppression
0.5mg of finasteride gives you the same amount of DHT suppression for two days before it even begins to recover. That extra 0.5mg of fin does literally nothing for a man but raise their chance of side effects. Even as the chart says that I just posted, because of the cumulative effect of finasteride in your tissues, even as little as 0.05mg per day will be suppressing 60%+ DHT after 42 days.

1mg per day is an overdose. The only reason it is the standard is because that's what was used in the trials for FDA approval so it's what doctors in America have to prescribe.

                >0.5mg of finasteride gives you the same amount of DHT suppression for two days before it even begins to recover
There's slightly more scalp DHT suppression at 1%. Given that even 0.5mg dutasteride works way better than 1mg finasteride despite only 10% more scalp DHT suppression, every percentage counts.
                >The only reason it is the standard is because that's what was used in the trials for FDA approval so it's what doctors in America have to prescribe.

Kevin Mann actually did a video on that. There's research in mice indicating that oral minoxidil could even increase elastin production which would de-age your skin. But sadly there's no research on its effect on collagen production.
That said, you can use tretinoin/adapalene to increase collagen production of your skin.

Finasteride inhibits 40% scalp DHT at 1mg/day. Dutasteride inhibits 50% scalp DHT at 0.5mg/day and 80% scalp DHT at 2.5mg/day. At that level of scalp DHT suppression most people should get enourmous amounts of regrowth, especially if combined with minoxidil.

But as I said, if that's how you think about finasteride or dutasteride just don't take them then. Go do your moronic scalp massages, do handstands, take biotin and watch how your hair continues to fall out until the point of no return. Neither finasteride nor dutasteride will feminize you. Actual trannies take both estradiol and a testosterone blocker in order to transition while 5-AR blockers will increase your free testosterone and only increase estrogen slightly.

If scalp tension was actually correct, transplanted hair would miniaturize and affected hair transplanted to your elbow would not continue to miniaturize. From the clinical studies on hair transplants, the opposite was observed which debunks the scalp tension theory completely.

Finasteride has been on the market for 31 years now and is in the top 100 of most popular drugs, yet there's never been any clinical study done indicating that using finasteride will have negative impacts on men outside of those few % who do get side effecs (and even they recover within 3-6 months of getting off finasteride).
Long term finasteride use is even correlated with longevity according to https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36547981/
So even if finasteride really does inhibit all of those enzymes (and I'd really like to see a source for that), if there's no negative outcome data for it the body either has no need for those enzymes or there are backdoor pathways for creating them.

The side effects are vastly underreported. Merck actually got into bad trouble for lieing about the safety profile of fin during the pilot phase. There are actually a host of studies that show how bad fin is for your body. From the obvious sexual stuff to the more obscure things like alteration of gut microbiota. It's a slow and cumulative process of course, you don't take fin for a few weeks and you dick falls off

I don't doubt fin is linked to increased longevity btw, as androgenic activity is inversely related to lifespan

          >The side effects are vastly underreported
          Source?
          >Merck actually got into bad trouble for lieing about the safety profile of fin during the pilot phase.
Even follow up studies have shown a similar side effect profile which was reported in the phase 3 study.
          >There are actually a host of studies that show how bad fin is for your body.
None of them are quality studies (randomized, placebo-controlled). In fact, most of them are just anecdotal studies from the PFS Foundation which is trying to get rich from suing Merck.
          >From the obvious sexual stuff to the more obscure things like alteration of gut microbiota.
Which has never been shown in any randomized, placebo-controlled study and doesn't appear to have any negative outcome (otherwise participants in the studies would have reported issues with constipation etc.).
          >It's a slow and cumulative process of course
How slow are we talking here? Aren't 31 years enough? Or does finasteride only show it's supposed "cumulative negative effects" after your 200th birthday?
          >I don't doubt fin is linked to increased longevity btw, as androgenic activity is inversely related to lifespan
So finasteride doesn't affect your quality of life and actually makes you life a bit longer.

"Fecal microbiota of 23 PFS patients was analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and compared with that reported in ten healthy male subjects."

"As expected, the most relatively abundant phyla in healthy and PFS subjects were Firmicutes (mean±SD; Healthy: 45.4±7.0; PFS: 57.6±17.3; p=0.09) and Bacteroidetes (Healthy: 40.4±15.0; PFS: 34.8±17.3; p=0.40) (Fig. 3a). PFS group was significantly depleted in Proteobacteria (Healthy: 10.2±15.6; PFS: 4.5±11.3; p=0.009) and Actinobacteria (Healthy: 22.6±2.5; PFS: 4.5±3.5; p=0.0003) (Fig. 3a). "

As I said, this is a study by the PFS Foundation and not randomized nor placebo-controlled. For all we know, those guys could have been eating a shitty diet, taking antibiotics etc. which would all affect their microbiome.
In the actual RPC studies done on finasteride, none of the participants mentioned constipation, diarrhea or stomach pain as a side effect which would have indicated changes in the microbiome.
Now you could go claim that this change is "subtle" so none of the patients would notice, but we haven't even had a verified case report of someone suffering from microbiome issues over the past 31 years nor does this affect longevity of the patients to any degree.

Read this study. Very recent and impartial:

Advances in Knowledge of Androgens: How Intentional and Accidental Neurosteroid Changes Inform Us of Their Action and Role

"Through competitive binding, finasteride is a potent inhibitor of type II 5ɑ-R (mean inhibitory concentration, or IC50, of 69 nM). Finasteride has also been shown to be similarly potent in binding to the type III isoenzyme of 5ɑ-R (IC50 17.4 vs. 14.3 nM for 5ɑ-R type II) when tested in a HEK-293 in vitro cell preparation [84]. The type II isoenzyme of 5ɑ-R predominates in the clinical targets for MPB and BPH, the hair follicles and prostate, respectively, and is also expressed in the liver, seminal vesicle, and epididymis [67, 85]. Approximately one-third of circulating levels of DHT are due to the actions of the type I isoenzymes, with the rest from the actions of the other isoenzymes [67, 85, 86]. Based on preferential binding and the tissue-specific expression of 5ɑ-R type II, finasteride was initially considered to have little potential for adverse actions in other tissues, beyond the hair follicles and prostate. Importantly, there are differential expression patterns of 5ɑ-R isoenzymes in different tissues, and developmental periods [67, 68]. Finasteride binds both types II and III, which are expressed in the brain opening the door to these other neural effects."

I imagine I may be bald in 30 years, so I may as well start taking it now.

are we allowed to ask about that? it's the elephant in the room. some people are open minded enough to discuss. others have their heads in the sand and refuse to even go there.

I still have thick hair but I'm fully prepared to shave it if I start losing it. I simply don't care, I get no pussy regardless.

I keep meaning to take the plunge with fin but all the PFS stories and propeciahelp weirdos scare me off it, I'd rather have a working dick than be bald but then again some of the stuff they say is total schizo nonsense, like saying it made their skin sag off their body. Have any of you anons gotten PFS/something like it?

I went to the subreddit once and saw a thread where these dudes were complaining that finasteride had changed their faces. It was so fricking moronic, the definition of hypochondria. They were posting pics of their faces from like a year ago and then a current one in their room with bad lighting and looking miserable, saying shit like "my face got fatter... abloobloobloo." It was the most ridiculous crap I'd have ever seen. Your face will obviously look different in a year you stupid homosexual, no shit, for a number of reasons (aging, lifestyle, etc), and I didn't even see any real difference.

          Creatine companies spreading propaganda.
Creatine needs new consumers, so they have to steal some from the finasteride crowd. It's quite sad really.

PFS is very controversial and personally I don't believe in it, but inhibiting 5ar is not something done lightly, that's for damn sure

      Anonymous

Like untill recently we didn't even know there existed a third type of 5ar, and now we know that finasteride actually inhibits that isotype of 5ar as well, in the brain, leading to neurological outcomes that we have no idea about. That's very sketchy to me. We just don't know enough atm

Well before that, we didn't even know what the brain was. We thought our hearts were our thinking organ and that humans had souls that lived in the heart and that was why we had free will. And if we did ooga booga and bing bing bong bong we could cure cancer and tuberculosis and baldness with the aid of Jesus Christ our lord and savior. We didn't bathe, or whip our asses, or brush our teeth, or open windows at night because we thought the bad Black person toxins would seep into our skin and turn us into Irish lepers. Now we care about some israeli isotope? Don't care about the AR15 isotopic hormonals inhibitor or whatever it's called. If I don't see it with my own eyes, I don't believe in it. If I don't feel it moving in my stomach, I don't believe it exists.

Is it normal to have one temple look different from the other? Like they aren't even?

Mine are but that's because I've already taken Fin long enough that my temples are starting to fill back in again. You can sorta see my hairline sorta slant upwards from left to right if I pull my hair back bt it's not at all noticeable

        Anonymous

I was told that temples don't grow back and fin/min only revives diffuse thinning.

          Anonymous

The truth is nobody knows how your hair will respond to fin and min. Some people continue to lose hair, some simply halt the advance with some extra thickness, some revert to NW-1 subhuman monkey tier hairlines.
We don't know why this happens and anyone that tells you they do know why is a fricking liar.
