They're good for better range of motion and functional training. I use these and weighted bats and mallets. BJJ is full of annoying hipsters though, wrestling is better.

    >BJJ is full of annoying hipsters
Traditional jujitsu is fine, anon. They use that discipline shit to keep gays in check. Where i used to go only 2 persons were allowed to talk, the guy training us and pupils asking questions about something they didn't understand. I was pretty dope, no one talked to me about anything else but what we trained that day.

Whats the difference between traditional jujitsu and bjj?

        Anonymous

that karate shit about gi's, bowing, being polite and keeping your shoes off the tatami. Jujitsu also has takedowns and strikes as it's a "complete martial art". See it as a MMA gym without gays.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere, better than any gym full of gays who look themselves in the mirror like women do.

Kettlebells are underrated in the U.S. and they totally mog dumbbells for any swinging motions. I curl with them and built up thick, juicy arms as a result.

You shouldn't, don't listen to the. Run out a novice linear progression, then cut down to 10% bf, then run a ppl variation at maintainance calories until you finally get it through your thick skill that your high school gf doesn't even remember your name.

i never understood the bjj hype, most fights in the clubs were decided on feet and within couple seconds
if you hit concrete, you already lost no matter how good your ground game is
boxing and sambo or judo seems much more effective because a good slam to the concrete will very likely end the fight, if your punches didn't already and they teach defense against takedowns
but when it comes to self defense, gun > knife > run >>> fight

      >you gonna lie on your shell like a little turtle in a street fight?
Imagine thinking you must do sport technique in a street fight. Let me guess, a wrestler should do turnovers on le streets to pin opponent?

        Anonymous

        you missed the point moron
the point is the fight - in most streetfights - should be over while on your feet or by executing a throw or a takedown of some kind.

specializing in ground game is the last thing you'd want to get good at for street fighting.

          >no one gonna do this in a street fight
          >YOU MISSED THE POINT!!!!
LMAO at you moron. While specializing on ground work, single and double leg are still the most used takedowns in BJJ.

        specificity and muscle memory.

bjj has shit in it that doesn't even work if you're not wearing a gi let alone if you're fighting irl.
seems to me bjj is a good sport and i hear it transfers to throwing around girls (or bois) in bed: but your time would be better spent elsewhere if you want to know how to fight irl.

BJJ I dunno, but anecdotally I believe it puts you in as good a position to defend yourself as any other martial art, given a reasonable amount of practice. This is caveated by the more fundamental principle that engaging in any kind of real-world fight is usually an invitation to be stabbed in the face with a broken bottle, and best avoided at all costs. Stupid games, stupid prizes, yadda yadda.

In terms of kettlebells, I know that they are an extremely effective tool for building physical capability. If you want to be able to go harder for longer, following a decent kettlebell program will make that happen for you.

You wanna look like an underwear model, body-build and starve yourself. You wanna be able to wrestle damned near anyone to death, train kettlebells and practice BJJ.

I am confusion. Why do anons think that training in grappling obligates one to fight on the ground?

If I train in grappling, I'm going to be a lot better at defending takedowns and staying on my feet than if I only did striking. Also, if something goes badly wrong and I do end up on the ground, I'm going to be much more able to escape a vulnerable position, gain a dominant position, and then get the heck out of there if I practice that multiple times per week.

Striking is awesome, but why would you limit yourself? All some butthole has to do is bearhug you and now it's a grappling match.

To answer OP, go try it and find out if you like it. Trying new things is fun.

This. The few stories I've heard of BJJ practitioners who've gotten into trouble out in the wild have been along the lines of the aggressor grabbing a handful of the said practitioner, and suddenly being surprised to find the offending hand removed and their being firmly grasped by the larynx, which has been sufficient to diffuse the situation

    >go hard with kettlebells
No reason not to. After learning how to properly kettlebell (Swings/Clean&Press/Thruster are my recommendations to learn) your going to have a better base of full-body strength that can effectively carry over into everyday life, athletics, and martial arts ("Functional Strength"). The basics of KB focus on one plain of human motion, getting off the ground and standing up straight. Double KB exercising will give more mass and monster strength gains. Check out "Armour Building Complex" by Dan John, and any learning you need, YT Mark Wildman, he's concise and direct, no fluff.

On stuff like snatch, clean and jerk etc, the Kettlebell will always somewhat "slam" on your forearm right? No matter how good the form is there will always be an impact?

      Anonymous

No. With good techniques you are rolling the hand under the KB before any serious impact occurs. It never 'slams' the arm or your doing it wrong.

Agreed - it may do at first because the technique takes a little practice to get down. One good way I've heard of thinking about it is to 'punch through' when getting to the top of a snatch or clean - it takes the energy out of the bell so it doesn't hit you. Spend time practising it without trying to worry about reps or intensity etc, and it'll get there.

depends if its a competition bell, a monkey joe rogan bell or normal girya bell,

      Anonymous

no it shouldnt slam into it, but its kind of hard to explain how to do it properly. you'll most likely learn how to time the 'hand insert' naturally like i did, your body kind of figured it out by itself the more you do it.
