FACT: Everybody secretly wants to (or already do) wear lifting gloves. Everybody has been deluded and shamed into thinking lifting gloves are feminine and weak then parrot that belief to each other. Everybody gets friction burn from crinkling palms. Yes you can overcome it but it takes months so you're either a beginner making yourself miserable and not getting anywhere because of the pain or if you're a seasoned lifter and decide to give them up, it will seriously impede your routine and progress. Plus it makes things like bench press so much safer with better grip.

I still have calluses on my fingers from fingerless gloves, they don't bother me at all so cope. Time to end the meme, there's nothing wrong with lifting gloves.

    I don't lift weights so it can be a safe, non-engaging activity that preserves my body. I lift because it's dangerous, there's real risk and it damages my body (which overcompensates and becomes stronger). Clearly you don't, so you won't go far. If I had to guess I'd say your physique and lifts are unimpressive.
    What do you need soft hands for, to jerk your boyfriend off? Fricking pussy. Calluses are a mark of honour. When older men involved in construction see my hands they immediately recognise the work I put in every week. It's like a trophy. Why you'd want to omit this for the tiny amount of pain present in the adjustment period is beyond me. I guess some of you are just built to be pussies.

        All right, maybe I was a bit too aggressive. I value my calluses because they remind me of how far I've come. Also, maintenance on them with a simple nail clipper isn't difficult. Clip them when they start sticking out too far so they don't get torn off when lifting. I just like being a minimalist and not bothering myself with more equipment, I don't wear a belt ever when lifting, I don't have a benching shirt, I don't take pre, etc.
        If you do construction then why would you wear gloves? Doesn't the work damage your hands more than lifting ever would? Are you doing heavy deadlifts with an aggressively knurled bar every day or something?

          it's not so much an issue of calluses, like i said in post, i do in fact have calluses, on my fingers from fingerless gloves. it's the burning and knurling that's an issue for me.

          i work at a supermarket, constantly picking up and opening heavy boxes. i get a fair few cuts not just on my hands but arms as well. no i don't like/need gloves for that but a lot of people do.

          i wish a knurled bar was the most of my problem, i also have rubber grip dumbbells (dial in weight ones) and the rubber burns my fricken hand like crazy too. i curl 20kg dumbbells if you must know.

            I don't see how lifting could make your hands that painful. One thing I know for sure is that wearing gloves won't help cause you're not conditioning your palms and fingers to the stress. I've never worn gloves ever and I never get pain when lifting.

                what friction? I'm struggling to think of which barbell exercises have the bar rolling around in your hands and tears your skin. Even with dumbbells I can't think of anything.
                A rubber grip could potentially do it, but I would just say grip the bar harder so it doesn't roll around?

                I'm assuming deadlifts or BB rows. If you're folding the bar correctly, there's minimal contact between the bar and your palms. It should be in your fingers.

    I do callisthenic in addition to lifting I should probably gloves but don't. From the middle of my palm out to my fingers is just one big callous. I no longer need pot holders for anything under 400.

    I've always had thick skin on my hands and only developed minimal callouses from lifting. Gloves are for people who's bodies aren't build for lifting heavy shit. I never get cuts and needles bend against me. The papercutgay fears me. Eat your protein and vitamins a, c, and e while wearing your gloves chuds.     Lifting gloves suck but gardening gloves are secretly OP and are explicitly banned in powerlifting meets for a reason. Those fingerless gloves with the hard plastic to I guess look "cool" completely miss the point. It's not even cheating because straps tie your forearms to the bar while these just as if you have anything sticky on your fingers , without making a mess.

    I use them for pull ups and suicide grip overhead presses since those get shakey when you get heavy.

    Keep in mind people that are aggressively anti-gloves are gym noobs trying to fit in. Same with belt nazis, double-overhand only and so on. It's very obvious when you're aware of it.

    I have never gotten calluses from the gym. All you have to do is grip the bar tightly so that instead of pinching your skin, the skin just rests on top of the bar while your fingers are wrapped around.

    I wear lifting gloves. Used to have calluses that felt like my knuckles were on the inside of my hands and looked pretty disgusting, but I liked the edgy feeling of being manly or whatever cringe nonsense. Started using moisturizer on my face regularly because it was drying out in the winter, and it had the effect of softening my calluses. My gf started commenting more on how soft my hands were and wanted me to touch her more often, so now I wear the gloves. Also, I'm a medical resident now and don't want patients to feel uncomfortable seeing gross hands.

    I do CrossFit and for things like toes to bar, muscle ups, etc if you don’t have something on your hands they WILL get torn up badly. I don’t care for gymnast grips, so knuckle gloves work great because I can feel the barbell, feel the pull up bars, still get solid grip but also not rip up my hands.
