maybe this would’ve been true 50 years ago but nowadays farmers and farm workers are fat and out of shape
    >inb4 HURRRR I GROW VEGETABLES ON MY PROPERTY AND IM FIT
this is about career farmers not ones who do it as a hobby

This is true for many older farmers/ranchere but the younger ones are often pretty fit. I wouldn't shit talk people who actually do rodeo style work for a living. Also depending on the families some of them have insane genetics, like where being 6'7” makes you a runt. Rulom Gardner is an example of someone where they grew up on a dairy farm and then went into Olympic Greco Roman wrestling but later in life featured themselves on shows like the biggest loser.

Corn bread and always moving shit. Do farmers walks, sled pulls, deadlifts, etc. In a sense, move heavy shit and eat a lot, then do that for years without stopping.

No I don't think they are stronger they just have more experience doing various tasks so anytime you see a city or suburb "person" try to do the same task they look weak because they don't have as much practice doing things like that. Also they are scared of animals and don't know about manual labor, plants or the woods or anything so this just creates an aura of weakness I think.

The whole inspiration for the works of Malthus was the dude noticing that farmers were skinny as shit despite working hard.

    Farmer here
It's a physically demanding job about half the time.
    >Bucking hay
    >Working on machines
    >Chasing after/riding/taking care of livestock
    >Split and stack firewood
    >Hand weeding and stone picking in specialty or new fields
The big one for my farm
    >Bagging and stacking pallets of seed and grain
That said, the other half of the job is pretty easy.
    >Sit in truck, yell at workers and shitpost (phone posters are farmers)
    >Sit in tractor and make pretty circles in the field until you start another dustbowl crisis
    >Sit around on the phone with seed brokers/bankers/other farmers
    >Shoot the shit with hay bailers and ranchers putting their shit in your field.
Etc. There's a lot of downtime before and after harvest.
The reason why farmers are always fat and busted is because on a busy day you'll need 4000-5000 calories to maintain, but on slow days you're completely sedentary.
The average diet around here consists of 1/2lbs cheeseburgers, tater tots, and beer. Even on sedentary days, most guys eat what they would on busy ones, ergo 5000 calories a day is not uncommon.
Farmers are orders of magnitude stronger than normal city people, but not necessarily gym rats. Where I think I might have an advantage is endurance, because I can work all fricking day stacking heavy shit, and most workouts only last a coue of hours.

      >a lot of this tasks necessitate strength in the sagittal plane of motion
That’s quite interesting because the kettlebell is considered the king of functional equipment and you swing it in the sagittal plane

My Dad is a 60 year old farmer and is fitter than guys 20 years younger than him.
He averages about 40k steps a day walking around the property, plays tennis and does cross country skiing. Dunno if it builds massive amounts of strength though.

Depends on the kind of farmer. Most of them are fat fricks that only operate machinery or only make money by gradually selling off inherited land to Bill Gates and Monsanto. If they manage hands-on livestock like sheep or dairy cows though they are probably a lot stronger than most people.

A surprising amount of strength comes down to grip, so I’d say so.

I lived in a small semi rural town for a couple months, at first glace alot of them look pretty overweight, like beer gut fat. When you see them causally carry 100lb crate like its nothing and then you hear boy stack another bag on top. yeah just causally drop 50lbs bag of seeds.
