Fasting and calorie deficit

So I've been doing a 1000-1500kcal a day for the past 2 weeks while doing omad. I've plateaued hard and gained like 7 pounds over night. I don't know why and it's super demoralizing. (I know it isn't pure fat) but that's a lot of weight out of nowhere. Does anyone have any ideas why?

Glycogen maybe. Did your lifts/fitness decrease? Plateaus happen and they will pass if you stay consistent. Take a look at your moods through the day too. Are you feeling lethargic and sitting more?

No my lifts are the same, my mood is always bad in general so that isn't a good indicator. I didn't do a full workout yesterday but I usually do a full body 2hr workout 5-6 days a week. I'm more lethargic but that just comes with the territory of only eating 1000-1500kcals a day.

It’s just a plateau man. Your goals are long term and you have to maintain clear vision. These will happen, and I don’t give a frick what science says about CICO. 2 weeks will be a blip on the radar when you chart your progress and look back in 6 months. Not to sound like a homosexual, but focus more on how you’re feeling and making sure you’re moving even when you feel lethargic during the day. Don’t have such a bad mood if you can help it. When I can help it, I pretend to be in a good or neutral mood if I realize I’m in a bad one. Pessimism and nihilism are your enemies, even when they’re warranted.

          >Pessimism and nihilism are your enemies, even when they’re warranted.

Unfortunately my base emotion is this. I'm trying to become normal weight because I tried therapy and meds for years and it didn't work. So now I'm hoping if I get to normal weight my mind will be fixed. I went from 325 to 235lbs in less then a year but I'm still in the same mindset. Sorry for the blog post.

          >It’s just a plateau man. Your goals are long term and you have to maintain clear vision.

You're right I'm probably just being neurotic. I just don't want to fall back into my old habits and become a class 3 obese again.

            No reason to be sorry.
            >I just don't want to fall back into my old habits and become a class 3 obese again.
You won’t if you’re consistent. You already have the hard part out of the way, which is starting. Most people never even get there. They fantasize or anesthetize themselves and don’t do the hard thing. The urge to give up will gradually lessen and your mental state will improve if maintain the path you are on. It isn’t as physically easy as eating cheeseburgers, but being a fat slob was destroying you.

You need to eat like 3500 cal to gain a pound.

Yeah I know it's just unsettling the amount of weight gain. I went from 235lbs to 242lbs overnight. Didn't drink a bunch of water or eat a lot either. I shit everyday too. Even did an enema to see if I was constipated or something but not much came out.

Ye that's your fricking problem you weigh over 200lbs and are eating like a girl who's 5ft and weighs in at 130lb. What do you use to track calories? I recommend MyFitnessPal also make sure you actually have a food scale one of the worst mistakes one can do is "eyeball" the amount of calories their eating instead of actually calculating meticulously. Trust me it happens way more than you'd think

I do eye it up. But I also just calculate everything at once when I do omad. I weigh my protein like beef chicken and shrimp. But I don't eat cheese or drink milk. And i add in a frozen meal which lists the calories. Then I add in the vegetables and mushrooms. I'll usually add extra calories so that I won't go over. It isn't perfect but I definitely eat less then 1750kcals a day. You are right though if I want to be perfect with it I should track it more accurately.

Okay one more thing before this thread gets shut down or something, you'll never TRULY be able to calculate the calories of everything you eat 100%, because some things are just hard to measure(like chicken soup, because not every chicken soup is the same some use different ingredients). So in GENERAL expect the calories you track to have a margin of error of roughly 100-200kcal it may sound like a lot but it actually isn't. Just stick to your calories day to day, weigh yourself weekly and eventually before you know it you would've made it

because your body lowers its metabolism when you starve it so it can save some of the calories you eat in form of fat. just eat at a small deficit, eat fats and high peotein. fill up rest with carbs.

Even when I'm working out and doing physical labor? So it lowers my bmr? Sorry if these are dumb questions I appreciate the posts.

I'm a different guy but in a way yes you lowered your calories way too drastically. You need to increase calorie intake and focus on losing the weight THROUGHOUT the year. We're here to lose the weight and KEEP IT OFF, not gain it back later

I understand what you're saying. I shouldn't get wienery. It just sounds good in my mind to be a not overweight. Losing 125lbs from April 2022 to April 2023 seems possible. I'm only 35lbs away.

I've posted progress pics on here before. It's pretty underwhelming even after losing 90lbs. People usually hate. Which is understandable I still look ugly AF lol.

Don't worry about it, while cutting just make sure you're building muscle properly. The guys on here in general are extremely critical cause we just have higher standards based on social media and fitness youtubers. Just don't be too negative and you'll get it eventually

How much do you weigh and what is your goal weight? 1500kcal seems like a drastic fricking cut, that's what a 5ft2 girl eats in a day and unless you're that tall I'm not surprised you've gained weight. Cutting THAT drastically because you want to weigh less as soon as possible is a bad idea for multiple reasons.
1.It messes with your metabolism and your body might go into starvation mode and getting to baseline is a shitty situation to be in
    2. Let's say you do lose weight and it's probably gonna be a in a few month(3 or so) unless you keep eating that little you'll gain it back over the course of the year.
That's what happened to me, I lost around 11kg in 3 months and the year after I gained all of it back. I'm on a more conservative program and just planning on losing around 16kg THROUGHOUT the year as to in sure that my body adapts perfectly and making it my new baseline. This video by MPMD is definitely a good guide https://youtu.be/f4ZMupHvXnU

So I'm 6ft2 I started at 325lbs April 2022 and I made it to 235lbs a couple days ago and I wanted to get to 200lbs by April first 2023. Thought the year I've cut weight and been able to keep it off by changing my diet completely so that I don't binge anymore. My stomach has shrunk I can't even eat as much as I use to. My eating urges have gone almost away too. They still come back when I'm crazy depressed but it's manageable.

Yeah that's how I lost my first 45lbs my first 2 months. By multiday fasting. I can't do that now though because I work a physical job plus working out. I'd go insane. Fasting has helped me a lot though.

    moron
    Go to /fast/
On top of that, switch to TRF
Small, PSMF style meal on your "full" fast day (two cans of sardines or something)
Then eat regularly up to your BMR needs on your workout days.

This way you don't crater your hormones, don't lower your BMR, and keep lean mass on the days you're not eating as much since you have exogenous protein.

Does your bmr really lower that much when you do it the way I'm doing it? I'll try and do it the way you say.

jesus man, what’s with the responses in this thread

your cortisol is elevated due to the prolonged heavy deficit and fasting causing an uptake in water retention. you’re still burning fat but the weight loss is masked by water. lower your cortisol levels and the water will flush out. high carb re-feeds help sort this out short-term

It is so long as it’s a calorie deficit that isn’t full of over processed shit. I cut using whole wheat bread, eggs, lots of veggies, potatoes, and various lean meats like fish and beef, to good effect

stop weighing yourself every day moron. Water, minerals, food, all these things weigh weight and if you haven't had a shit and you drank a load of salty water you're going to weigh more. Simple as. You could even drink the same amount but not piss it out as much. Just stick with it and you'll see the weight come off over the course of months.

True. I'm usually good at not giving a shit and knowing it's a long term thing it was just a sudden weight gain that's why I was freaking out.
