Sup IST -- anybody here ever suffer from fatty liver disease? I'm getting a lot of mixed results on how to eat. Some people say low carb and low fat. Others say fat is fine. Others say some other shit. The ketogays insist keto is the way but then say eat a ton of bacon and it'll go away.
I'm not even fat, but I will admit my diet hasn't been that great and I'm probably not doing as much cardio as I should be, but there's probably a genetic component in there somewhere.

I started to have my bloodwork edge in the direction of NAFLD and looked into this. Basically it seems like sugar is the biggest culprit, as is alcohol (inb4 "non-alcoholic"), but might also just be about excess in general; the liver stores fat when it's overloaded in a sense. The conditions that make you fat, diabetic, high cholesterol, metabolic syndrome, etc. are the same ones that cause NAFLD. My impression was that specific dietary changes like low fat or low carb were misguided (aside from stop drinking soda or sugary beverages, which is huge) and it's more about generally losing weight and improving fitness. I reversed mine by losing 20lbs, but I was also fat.

I don't remember. honestly I got diagnosed a while ago and kind of ignored it like a moron just due to a bunch of stress. I kind of stopped lifting last year and my diet had never really been that clean, but I never got fat or anything. I probably am eating too much sugar, which is still crazy to me considering how much less I eat than the average person around me, but I read somewhere that the number 1 cause of liver problems in westerners is diet not alcohol. I really need to get my ass back into the gym and up my cardio, would probably be the best thing to do, but I guess it's really time for me to make a better push into cutting sugar (not that your post was what did it, but maybe a lot of the issues will get better if I do it). I will try and at least cut back on carbs for the month though and see where I wind up. might do a 24+hour fast a week as well since my understanding is that another thing that's super helpful is to get your body to burn up the fat in the liver.
I've kind of lost a lot of weight since I stopped lifting, but I might have to embrace skeletor mode if I wanna get rid of this. it's hard because a lot of the solutions I read for it are people who are fat frick and no shit your liver is bad when you're about as tall as me and weigh 65lbs more of fat
I was gonna recommend fasting as well. It will deplete your glycogen stores and probably help you start getting rid of the fat.
If I were you I'd go back to the doctor and nail down exactly how bad it is and whether or not you have diabetes or prediabetes. Especially if you're experiencing this and you're not fat or drinking alcohol, there may be something metabolic going on. Or maybe you were hungover when you got your blood test and it's resolved since then. Important to know how bad it actually is; sometimes doctors are just like "oh this is 'high'" and they don't specify how high or how serious it is.
It didn't have symptoms. My liver enzymes were just high in a way that pointed to early NAFLD, which is so common it affects the reference ranges of the lab tests themselves.

Delivery once a week, prepackaged junk like breakfast cereals, biscuits, crisps, some microwave lasagna and other processed shit that comes wrapped in plastic or a box. Feel a lot more healthier, energetic and my bloodwork and such are great.

My liver is BIG and HARD. A normal liver stiffness lies at around 4-5 kPa. In the setting of cirrhosis, it's 13-18. Mine is 29.6. I can feel it. Like having to take a poop, but the poopy feeling emanates from my upper right abdomen.
I've had two different doctors tell me to knock myself out and drink within the recommended maximum alcohol intake (10 units/week), but I suspect they're thinking in terms of QoL and just want me to live a little since I'll likely be dead in ten years either way.

The answer is a combination of low carb and fasting. Low carb and fasting is the cure for most diet related health problems. Fasting mobilizes the fat out of the liver and uses it as fuel. Do this until sub 15% BF
Yeah I'm thinking cutting a bunch of weight is the way to do it. Hard to lift when I'm at that much of a deficit though AND doing low carb. Absolutely fricking drains me. Maybe it gets easier though. Lifting while fasted sucks shit too (since I do 36hr fasts every few weeks)

Both Fructose and Ethanol are only metabolized in the liver, thus if you are eating them a lot, there can be a local caloric surplus in the liver even when you are at an overall deficit. But due to the deficit it should normalize over time
No you're wrong just look up the metabolism of fructose. There is a reason fructose is uniquely implicated among sugars in catalyzing NAFLD. There are many people with insulin resistance who aren't really incredibly overweight and who don't eat some huge amount of calories all of the time.

Your body burns those in a calorie deficit
Avoid PUFA and alcohol
Eat eggs, saturated fat.
Carbs and sugar are fine.
The choline and lecithin in eggs helps with fatty liver, acts as an emulsifier for fat.
The biggest damage to the liver for non-alcoholics is generally from PUFA.
I had it, stop drinking and eating like shit and it should mostly heal on its own. I finally had to stop drinking because I just couldn't anymore and mine mostly went away after a year and a half

There could be a lot of causes for your fatty liver: disorder, too high bodyfat..
Get in touch with ya doc and ask whats the cause of your fatty liver. Srsly.
If it's bc of too high bodyfat (yeah, slim people can be fat too, you MF): congrates, u only have to stop eating too much fructose (it's not only in fruits but also in a lot of food nowadays), eat healthier with a deficit and if you like you can do some cardio.
Most fatty livers aren't recognized until the cancer breaks out, that's why a lot of people have one but never realise it. Often it's a suprised incidental finding. There are no or only a few symptomes for a fatty liver like tiredness or pain in the upper stomach.

I got diagnosed with fatty liver before I became fit and was only overweight by a bit. Not a drinker. I dropped soda completely, lost some weight, and the pain has for the most part stopped. It likely is influenced a lot by genetics, since none of the obese people I knew in real life knew what I was talking about when I brought it up to them. Having a high body fat % (skinnyfat or obese) also seems to influence it.

I didn't start getting bloodwork done at my wellness exams until I became 18, and my fatty liver was a problem that began when I was 16 or 17. The pain was this sharp jabbing flash that shocked my torso area a few times a day.
Polyunsaturated Fat contributes to NAFLD. So Does Methionine and Choline deficiency(eat eggs or liver, probably better to go with beef liver because PUFA in egg yolks). Saturated fat and Glycine(broth) are protective. Obviously alcohol causes fatty liver. Fat Soluble endotoxins contribute(gut disbiosis). Sugar is fine if you eat enough choline and methionine (meat, organ meats).

Long fasts are pretty much the only way to make it go away forever.
Like, 3-4 days off of eating, then you can eat something healthy and low glycemic load for 1-2 days, but still relatively low calories, so like chicken salads, vegetables, and olive oil, then 3-4 days off again until you can get a check up and see if your enzyme levels are normal.
To avoid getting it again you need to eat a high-vegetable diet without too much insulinogenic foods and keep your weight relatively low.
