      Do both. Keep trying with pull-ups and eventually you'll be able to do them consistently.
      That's assuming you don't weigh like 400 lbs though.

    Try 99. There's only 3 other people in my gym that do without swinging, proper posture and pulling with their lats. It's very funny watching people rep out 20x without it having any activation on their back.

      It uses your lats and biceps so you have to take the biceps out of it somehow. This is done easily by preexhausting the lats first with straight arm pull downs and not making the common mistake of thinking you can simply not use the biceps. You have to use the grip that uses your biceps the best (close grip, underhanded) because you're gonna use them anyway and this will put them at enough of an advantage to not tire out before your preexhausted lats. Furthermore the more you use your abs the less you contract your lats. You want arch your back and relax abs.

    I fucking hate lat pulldowns, there's so many possible ways for tension to leak away from the back muscles. My forearms give out before my back muscles

    just do weighted pullups/chinups instead

    I prefer do it with a one arm medium grip, not prone not supine, just grab the cable for that and do it, it will target better the lats than pic related. Medium grip pull ups also

    I prefer doing the lat pull down with a little bit of cheat or swinging. It allows me to feel the most tension and target the muscle better. I used to be a form perfectionist that tried to do everything as strict as possible to have perfect form but i realized this is not actually good. Using some body movement helps you lift and activate and use your muscles more efficiently and actually enhances the movement instead of taking away from it. If you are a form perfectionist and you learned the basics and you been doing it for a while and you don't really feel a lot then trying doing a little swinging, it helps. Its not about how much weight you are using, its about you do the movement and stimulate your muscle.
