finasteride

I got the gnarliest brain fog, the whole front of my head feels like its been shut off but god damn I am unironically noticeably getting my hair back. Can't put up with this shit though. How do I cope with just being bald?

Finasteride doesn't have "brain gay" as a side effect and there's no pathway by which finasteride can affect the brain because it only inhibits DHT type 2, not DHT type 1 which is the only type of DHT present in the brain.
Also regardless of what supposed side effects finasteride has, being bald has way worse side effects.

        >there's no pathway by which finasteride can affect the brain
Listen anon, I realize that it's entirely possible and even likely that my "brain fog" isn't even associated with finasteride but "no pathway exists" is one of the weakest arguments on the planet for a drug or therapeutic. The average human cell has (literally) millions of proteins that a drug can interact with and each of our ~trillion cells has a different set of proteins; each protein interacts with a set of proteins and each cell interacts with a set of cells. The complexity of any given biological system is exponentially high and simply knowing *a* mechanism by which a drug works doesn't even begin to show the full picture. This is why clinical trials are the only real evidence that show safety and efficacy, but it isn't feasible to perform clinical trials for every little reported side effect most of the time, and so you essentially can't disprove most outlandish claims of side effects made by people. I wish you could, but you can't.

          Anonymous

And clinical trials didn't even list "brain fog" as a possible side effect despite thousends of people being enisted in them for over two years.

            Anonymous

That's not the evidence that the brain fog can't happen. Maybe he has such a high base level of estrogen that fin increased it even more and it fricked him up

Topical finasteride at least still goes systemic.

nowhere in my post did I mention topical finasteride, don't be a fricking idiot and read properly

            Anonymous

No, I've been reading about fin side effects for years before staring fin, I was most worried about erectile dysfunction and no sex drive, and I had no side effects at all for 2 months after starting fin, this just started about a week ago

              What's your dosage?

                Anonymous

0.233 mg/day applied topically in ethanol solution (with minoxidil, 1mL of 0.233mg/mL solution delivered via dripper)

                Anonymous

That's a very sensible low dose, and topical should have very little to no systemic blood penetration, wtf?

If it's only been going on a week, just keep an eye on it. Make sure your sleep, electrolytes, and diet are all good. If it persists then maybe think about RU-58841 instead

      Anonymous

I did, this shit works but I feel like shit. I'll try lowering the dose/skipping a few days to see if it's really the fin but I'm getting hair budding back and it's easy to tell.

Or you can simply power through the symptoms until they go away on their own.

    Why not just use topical?
I was using topical dutasteride, which stopped my hair loss, I had no side effects, and PLUS I had increased sex drive. I can't honestly tell you the reasoning for this or whether it was placebo, but my subjective feel was like I was on a low dose of test.
There's some science shit you can read that it only inhibits DHT enzimes in the scalp, and how the half-life is so low so that it doesn't get to the system like oral finasteride does and so on...
But give it a go if fin is bothering you

I am using topical. I don't have any sex drive problems I'm still a coomer, I've just been feeling horrible lately oddly around the same time I saw hairs growing back. I've been sleeping more than usual too (~9 hours a night for the past few nights) so I'm not sleep deprived. My head just feels like it's been filled up with maple syrup.

Topical fin, dumbass, don't tell me not to waste your time, read the OP. Anyway I've never gotten good medical advice from IST I mostly just made this thread because I'm drunk and bored oddly booze is making my head feel better but now it kind of hurts for some reason.

What can I do to maintain my hair? My dad went bald in his 20s, my maternal grandfather didn't start receding until 70. When should I start fin?

if you still didn't start losing your hair and just want to precent it, I'd go with natural things like saw palmetto oil. It's a natural DHT blocker, though fairly weak, but will give you some early immunity to DHT induced hair loss.
Also scalp massages. There's that dude on pefrecthairhealth.com or something like that, that showed that tight scalps induce stringer DHT activation. He has a free daily 20min massage regime that you can download and follow

If you don't want something that actually works but rather something that makes you feel good about yourself, take saw palmetto+rosemary oil+pumpkin seed oil+garlic oil, pour all that shit over your head and then in a couple of years shave it bro, like The Rock!

Men get their hair from their mother's side most of the time.

There's over 250 genes involved in the balding process. You can sometimes be unlucky enough to go NW7 in your early 20s when all of your ancestors were NW0 until their 80s

My dad started thinning super early like 17 and was completely bald by 30.
I'm 22 right now with no widows peak or unusual hair loss yet. Derm said my hair looked fine. I'm not sure I need fin yet, what else can I do in the meanwhile?

              >what else can I do in the meanwhile?
Observe your hair for miniaturization and use alfatradiol topically which is basically an inactive estrogen that doesn't feminize you.
I wouldn't use minoxidil as it can mask your hairloss for a few years until suddenly it all catches up to you and you get a dread shed from which you may never recover.

                >alfatradiol
Do you have one you recommend? Also if I were to start fin on a lower dosage (half of 1mg), would that work to preserve what I have?

                Anonymous

                Pantostin
And yes, even 0.5mg of fin works 90% as well as 1mg of fin. Since you likely have strong balding genetics, this should be enough to delay your hairloss until your mid/late-30s at least.

Thanks. I'll start the alfatradiol immediately and probably begin micro dosing fin after my next blood test.

Anon stop being a moron shilling meme bro science therapies that don't work. The science is clear, none of the natural shit works (even astaxanthin at high dosages doesn't block over 20% systemic DHT which translated to maybe 5% scalp DHT suppression, not even remotely enough) and scalp massages don't work either because the issue is not blüdflew to on your scalp, it's DHT destroying the miniature blood vessels to your hair.

What the frick are you worrying about? That's like a norwood 0.5. You look fine for a 22 year old. If your dad started balding at 17 and you haven't yet, you probably got someone else's hair genes.

It’s hard. Fin shot my prolactin through the roof and I started getting breasts, and I was super dead inside feeling, my gf at the time was so confused as to what was happening to me. After I got off of it it took me 2 weeks to go back to normal, I fricked her like 6 times that night. I want my hairline to stay intact but not feeling like myself sucked so much, I don’t think I could live like that forever just for hair.

Just use half the dose. There are bald men out there taking HRT out of sheer desperation and it could happen to you.

No. Ive been on fin for 12 months now, hair loss stopped 3 months in. Im lucky and have had no side effects either. People tend to say you should use Minoxidil with the fin, but Minoxidil fricked me up (shedding cycle lasted longer than a month and dozens of hairs would fall out every time I ran my hand through) and moved up a full norwood stage.
If I could go back in time for this specifically I'd start taking fin as soon as I noticed hair loss and not bother with minoxidil.
