As a novice fine but you'll hit a wall if you end up as an intermediate with novice habits. Your dietary practices should improve as you become more advanced, since if you want to be an advanced lifter you're gonna have to eat like one

Completely wrong, you should be bulking and cutting. That being said most people bulk way too quickly, 1-2lb a month is the way to go, maybe as high as 3-4lb if you're a novice

Not really, but if you're a bodybuilder there's no reason to go below 5 reps. Yes, heavier weights are probably slightly more dangerous, but if you keep good technique even as you approach failure, and ensure that you manage your recovery well, you'll have no problems.

I'd say that it's fine to go to failure on all sets depending on the exercise. Make sure to use a rep range instead of static rep ranges though (eg 3x8-12 instead of 3x10)
