      Brain zaps?

        Anonymous

Don't worry, if you ever get off the meds you'll get to learn what they are. It's a kind of painful feeling where you feel that your brain is turned off and turned back on again accompanied by what feels like electricity going through your brain.

If anyone here is thinking about getting psyche meds is reading this, make sure you try everything else that's humanly possible to help yourself before getting on the medication. Oftentimes the medications will cause as many problems as they solve. Mental health still is very much a developing field. Not only do they not fully understand how certain mental conditions come about, they also don't understand fully why or how medications treat disorders.

Unless your depression is so bad that you're getting constant panic attacks with nausea while vomiting and you're thinking of killing yourself to stop the pain, it's probably not bad enough that you need medication.

Oh man frick brain zaps. I got pretty bad withdrawals after one SSRI. I would be getting a zap every other minute or so and randomly my brain would "reset" for a moment and sometimes my legs would just shut off and I'd catch myself before I hit the ground. Migraines every day, irritability, no temper, dizziness, nausea, shakes. Fricking hated that shit.

absolutely agree. I was put on meds almost ten years ago and quit after a few months cuz they weren't doing anything.
Since then I've just been winging it. Sometimes it gets really bad where I pretend to be sick from work and do nothing all day, don't eat or become suicidal. But it's still better than being put on happy pills. Really people have been living with depression for millenia, why can't we do it now?

I think their depression was easier because they couldn't survive just laying in bed all day. Most of us can.

lol I got this during my withdrawal. The absurd part was I was only taking half a dosage. I had a choice between upping my dosage, changing my prescription, or quitting. I wasn't getting any positive side effects and on the flipside I was getting seriously fat so I just stopped altogether. Brain zaps for like 6 fricking months after what must've been only about 2 months of half a dosage. What a sick joke.

Literally three days ago a huge article came out showing that serotonin has nothing to do with depression.

What I find even more interesting about SSRIs is that they increase significantly your odds of committing suicide.

Lmao idk why tf I took this garbage for so long.

      Anonymous

The reason they increase the risk of suicide is that they can affect motivation prior to improving outlook.

Meaning you're suicidally depressed but sit around in a dark room all day. A few weeks in you are now motivated... And still suicidally depressed.

Really only applies in the extreme cases.

Western Mental Health is horseshit. Talk therapy is a joke. If you had the means to help yourself, you probably would have done so already or deserve what you get.

The only people this shit actually works for are people who manufacture their own issues; hence why so many women get on these.

You cannot talk/think yourself out of anxiety or depression as those things are not jut 'in your head'.

Of course you need logic to know what is wrong, but these things go much deeper.

          >You cannot talk/think yourself out of anxiety or depression as those things are not jut 'in your head'.

          Mood Improvement
Serotonin impacts our mood, but mood also affects serotonin production. Studies using
brain imaging (PET), showed that brains of people who are happy produce more serotonin
than brains of people who are sad.

Iunno... Lotta hate here for it.

I suffered from on and off panic attacks for years, then a period of intense nearly non stop panic due to work stress and a panic attack while high. That's the last time I smoked.

Ten years of Lexapro and... Six figure income, excellent enjoyable job, great wife, went from fat to fit, newborn son and second coming soon. The fricking works. The shit we strive for.

I still hear whispers of panic here and there, but the volume is down and it never exceeds a manageable level.

Could I get off it? Maybe? I did decrease the dose recently with zero side effects. But it certainly isn't hurting.

Didn't like it and told my therapist I was going to get off it and they were like "are you sure? there may be side effects!" as if the medication itself doesn't have side effects. If depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain then I can balance it by going to the gym and giving my brain natural happy chemicals from working out and getting some sunlight and shit. In a series of recent studies, negative emotions were associated with increased disability due to mental and physical disorders,22 increased incidence of depression,23 increased suicide24 and increased mortality25 up to 2 decades later. Positive emotions protected against these outcomes. A recent review including meta-analyses assessed cross-sectional, longitudinal and experimental studies and concluded that happiness is associated with and precedes numerous successful outcomes

i used ssris a bit in my teens.
i got bullied a lot for being a weirdo and it seemed like something i just had to put up with, not something i could fix if i changed behaviours.
i ended up kind of hollowed out and miserable and probably stayed home more days than i went because the stress gave me agonizing abdominal pain.

the ssris did help. i became somewhat more functional and they made room to feel positive things sometimes.
i cycled through a bunch and they seemed to be decreasingly effective rather than more.
eventually it didn't seem worth it to get the re-fill so i weaned myself off of them.

i don't think they are NECESSARY in that the stuff you need to do to get out of that is not take the drug.
but taking the drug might be the only feasible way you get yourself into a position where you can fix your life.

I got on lexapro and like 10 Xanax pills when I was on the verge of suicide. I quit the lexapro because it dulled my emotions and it didn’t seem to help. I didn’t feel more productive. Im having a tough time again, I get really anxious at night and have moments where I feel really unstable. Aspirin seems to help but I have no idea how to help myself. I workout, eat right, drink water, and so on. I might try a therapist/psychiatrist again.
