Floor Press

- builds chest
- builds triceps
- builds strength
- saves shoulders
- will never kill you

Why isn't this the default over flat bench?

For me, that last one is a feature, not a bug, so I'll keep benching.

The negative rom you get on bench isnt actually any helpful its more negative for your shoulder health than anything

It's an exercise that actual athletes use so of course dimorphic roid trannies would not use it

160kg floor press paused at 86kg btw.

      I can do 180 when I'm heavier.

That's interesting. All it really seems to do for me is isolate the part of my triceps near my elbow, but here you are having a big chest and pushing holy shit kgs with half a stretch reflex. I guess the minimalist routine meme is real.

I feel them extremely well in my chest, got chest doms almost every week too, doing relatively high volume with pretty high weight because unlike benching you can get away with that on the floor press without risk of fricking yourself up.

        6'2 190lbs, they're like 16 inch but I have very long arms.

almost two years with my barbell setup, did some bodyweight and dumbbell exercises before that.

Do you do a bulk/cut cycle or just main gain? I'm about a year in, cutting because I'm tired of being fat, but trying to plan for the future.

            Anonymous

I bulk during most of the autumn and winter, and cut during the spring, not for aesthetics but it's extremely uncomfortable to have higher bodyfat during the summer heat, especially when you work outdoors.

maingaining doesn't work for me anymore, I don't gain any size or strength unless I eat in a significant surplus for an extended period of time, I can comfortably maintain this level of bodyfat though, still not sure what I want to do this winter.

if you're bothered by not having abs just do small cuts inbetween your bulks so your bodyfat doesn't get too high, losing weight is a lot easier than gaining it, at least for me.

              Anonymous

Kinda same. Gaining healthy weight is hard as frick for me. Like, I can bloatmaxx and put up big PRs super easy but I'll look like a soup sandwich. Meanwhile I eat just slightly below maintain and drop pounds faster than I intend.

I have force feed myself a kilo of yogurt every day just to maintain my current weight, my appetite is dogshit and my caloric requirements are stupidly high from labor intensive work.

I was eating croissants all day just to keep the calories up this winter.

Typed a whole reply but it vaporized. Thanks anon. I figured cut/bulk was the best way. Most anons who say otherwise don't post their body. I'm mostly want to get rid of my love handles and keep them off. At about 17% right now and hope to get and stay in the 12-15% range long term. You're bulk/cut timing sounds ideal as well. Hope I look like you after another year.

maingaining works great until you're like a year or less into lifting, after that it just becomes a lot of effort for a whole lot of nothing.

this is a picture from last winter when I was 30 lbs heavier.

I wish you good luck, we will all make it, except for no body posters.

Damn, now I feel like I gotta post body. I got this far in a year. Cutting has been fun because I feel like I'm unwrapping my muscles for the first time.

you've already made good progress, you'll likely see your abs before winter if you continue cutting.

Shitty range of motion, just exclusively bench with a slingshot to deload the shoulder.
    >but muh raw bench
Have you seen WR raw benches? It's this shit, 100% of the time unless it's Julius Maddox who's the sole exception.

doesn't work like that, the bar just rolls forward and doesn't hit your body.

No, I mean if your tri's give out. If you don't drop the bar, all the weight hits on your elbows if your forearms are still perpendicular to the ground.

The bottom of the bench rep will destroy your rotator cuffs long term. It will also limit your shoulder mobility, which will be crucial going into old age. Flat addresses this by limiting ROM.

Shortened ROM lacking full stretch is why it'll never fully replace a flat bench, but it's still a decent movement.
