Forward Head Posture

How the frick do I fix this? New to lifting, so I’m wondering if it naturally goes away as the upper body strengthens or is it something that requires specific stretches and exercises?

just stop doing it. look in a mirror, correct your posture (including pulling your shoulders back), and maintain that throughout the day.

      Do this
but make sure to focus on maintaining eat at the same time you focus on your breath
so your brain associates good posture with breathing (which you do all the time)
and it should be like that tbh
      correct breathing is:
      >straight neck
      >straight back
      >neutral pelvic tilt
      >tongue in roof of motuh

Deadlifts might fix it, if they will you will see improvement in a month of SS

dont waste your time doing neck workouts
focus on shit that helps with your thoratic spine

get a band and do rows
      straight arm pulldown
      front raises
      side raises
      external rotations

you need to strengthen your back and muscles around the thoratic spine that support the head and neck

a lot of neck health is centered
frick it out dont feel like typing

dont do this unless you want long term back problems
every fatty just tells people to do ss because thats all they know

Building your back muscles definitely will help. Pullups and deadlift helped me the most. Obviously fixing your posture and checking yourself when you unconsciously slouch your neck helps the most but making your back stronger so you always naturally pull your shoulder blades back like when you lock in during deadlift will also in turns pull your neck back. So yeah do your back days seriously.

youtube has lots of different tutorials, the main one being where you stand against the wall and chin tuck, but its really difficult to ascertain which one actually works from all the 10s of methods presented.

I'd probably recommend getting a good chair for posture, since that is where you probably spend most of your time and then be extra conscious when you're looking at your phone and sleep with a really low neutral pillow or in whichever way puts your spine in the ideal neutral position.

I sometimes put my pullow lengthwise under my thorax and I wake up feeling pretty OK.
Im also a piece of shit that rolls my pillow in half and does the classic laptop on stomach chad guaranteed insomnia surfing and kino consuming position

This is insanely common for office workers. I did stretches like the above post for a couple months and it went away. Age 32 male.

You could also see a chiropractor, the good ones that focus on physical therapy, or just see a physical therapist if your insurance is good. They will give you atretches and keep track of your posture as you work to make corrections over 3 months. Cracking your back feels good but medically does nothing and is a waste of time imo.

it just takes consistency. always focus on posture and eventually it will correct. not really good enough to do weird exercises sporadically

There's plenty of "how to fix tech neck" videos on israelitetube. In my case it didn't fully go away until I broke the habit of looking down on my phone.

It's probably caused by an imbalance in the strength of certain muscles, but I don't know which

only meme answers ITT btw, so listen to mine (advice of an actual chiropractor)
push your shoulders forward, your neck will naturally straigthen
if you walk shoulders retracted and chest out your head will want to move forward, so stop doing it

Of course your ~~*doctor*~~ friends would say that, moishe. I was a hunchback for like 4 months after lifting wrong before seeking the help of a chiropractor and they cured me in 5 sessions. If I'd have gone to a doctor I would have been given a walker and painkillers for the rest of my life or an invasive surgery. have a nice day shill. Regardless of whether anon was being honest or not real chiropractors are far better healthcare providers than the pharma-trannies in the modern hospital system

its a dice roll either way because a profession doesn't ensure skill. As general advice be extremely wary of dentists and eye doctors because that's where the lowest graded go in med.

On topic you need correct entire spine position because a problem with hip position can affect your neck position. So dont just focus on neck.
Secondary you cant hold posture with regular exercise because you will likely train muscles for short burst activity. You need to train slow twitch also called stabilizers/ tonic muscles as these are the only ones who will work even if you forget about posture sitting hours in office.

      Hey?

A personal trainer I used to have gave the opposite advice, pushing the shoulders backwards and towards each other.

There was an anon who gave advice on this, it was a screengrab. He did a shitton of anterior delt/back work and it kind of got pulled back in place.

If you work your back more, it likely will. You're most likely rounding your back and shoulders forward naturally. A stronger back and rear delts will help you. It did for me

lifting probably helps but the key for me is yoga, some of the positions really force you into having a correctly balanced posture, especially the ones lying belly down on the mat forcing your neck into good alignment

pics on the left are 3 months ago, pic on the right is today, all i've done is lifted regularly and 1hr yoga ~2x weekly

it's a constant battle if you have to work on a PC since that makes you want to crane, and the position you hold your spine in slowly changes your actual body's shape

Your head is just as forward as before, you're just tilting it backwards.
