Frens, what motivates you?

I've struggled to keep a schedule for working out, I've had problems with keeping a diet, and honestly I have no clue how you guys do it? Any secrets?

Obviously it’s not true but when I’m in the moment and I see a sexy gym girl it fuels me.

    1. Working out feels good in the end
    2. Feeling fit and able is a great feeling
    3. I am not a radical extremist and simply eased my way into it with my key goal being consistency in going.
    4. I always treated it like a fun activity and the gym like a playground. I don't cause issues but I definitely go there to have fun and enjoy myself trying machines, doing challenges, etc.
I don't have any set program or goals, I simply go and spend my energy.

I do have a good body now and I do have ''regular exercises'' I do, or favorites, but it goes to show, you could be doing literally anything, if you go for 3+ year you are bound to look decent.

As per food...I only ever have problem with food in the winter, with slight overeating from SAD. Otherwise I struggle to eat in the summer due to the heat so I end up evening out.
And I haven't tracked stuff in years, I eyeball stuff now and I know what's right to eat.
It's not hard radical diet stuff, I eat sort of what I want or can, and still manage.

Honestly with how low effort I put in, it really makes me wonder just how bad people's eating habits or lack of exercise really is.
Because I would say I'm like one of the ''bare minimum'' people who look like gymgoers and with how little I try...really makes me question how much people eat.

            No it isn't. That's a drawing of a man.

Odin is "I'm not religious, but I'm spiritual" for men.

So the vast majority of white history was just men pretending to be spiritual? That sounds incorrect.

Odin was that literal wienersucker no one worshiped.
            They worshiped Thor or Fryer.

theres no secret, you just have to choose to take each small step towards whatever you want
and in your mind you have to stop thinking taking those steps is optional (it's not because if you don't take a step forward you're not going anywhere, and if you're not going anywhere you're just decaying)
this goes for everything in life, not just lifting and diet
and to that end its not always easy necessarily because you likely have goals of competing importance and fatigue is a real thing
start by giving yourself less opportunity to say no
understand that today you have to do x, y, z in order to get what you want and do them without asking yourself how you feel
this is especially hard when you're a neet in my experience because you can constantly tell yourself tomorrow is fine too if youre tired so i suggest trying to get a part-time job or having a set appointment to take your grandma to lunch every 2-3 days or whatever
having a set time where you have to be somewhere or do something makes you go "ok i have x hours until i have to do y so before that I have to do a b and c" which makes it easier i think
other than that prioritizing yourself is important
you don't have to go asshard at the gym if it's not actually your first priority
    it's certainly not mine
i like lifting and running for my health, which is really pretty low commitment compared to other things like bodybuilding and actual strength athletics
and i'm also in the middle of changing careers and immigrating so those things that are relevant to that take precedence to my other hobbies
it takes continuous readjustment to manage all the shit in your life without robbing yourself of progress but it is possible
its another reason why being efficient and understanding the best ways to make progress is extremely important, so do your research and talk to people who verifiably have more experience than you whenever possible
    anyways good luck

If you pride yourself on keeping your word, you must honor all promises, even those made to yourself. I've committed to working out and staying fit, and there are no exceptions, regardless of my motivation on any given day. I promised myself I would work out, so I will. Breaking promises to yourself undermines the value of your word. I don't let others down, so why should I let myself down?

Think about the reward for being consistent and putting in the work and time, OP.

Here's the thing - consistent effort trumps everything else. If you're things 4/5 perfectly (still allowing for some occasional frick-ups) 7 days/week, you're gonna get there in due time. And, it's better than being the person who does the "perfect" diet and training for a few weeks, then falls back to old habits for a month or two, and starts all over again.
The future belongs to those who show up. Be that person that makes the better meal choice when you need to eat even if something else sounds better to you at the time. Be the person who still goes to the gym even though you're tired, because you know that even if you can only give 75% of your best, it's better than NOT going.
You can make it, OP. The world's mission is to convince you that you won't make it, but you have to ignore the bullshit and stick to your plan, because only YOUR plan matters, not the plans of others who want to see you fail.

Motivation is unreliable. Discipline is doing shit because you just have to do it. I was never able to stick a program until I accepted that it was a thing I would have to do forever in some form, like brushing my teeth. It took me 50 years to stop caring about motivation and just lean into doing the shit every day.

  33. 1 month ago
    Anonymous

My motivation is pretty depressing. The usual "people are shallow and won't accept you unless you look good" bullshit, that sadly matches up all to well with my experiences so far.

But I think what you're asking about is more along the lines of how to keepup with training and dieting. That's much easier. You just need a "trigger" that happens repeatedly. For example, I'm currently training club swings and some dumbbell exercises. So I have my clubs and a loaded dumbbell lying right next to my computer, and when I come home, I crank out some reps while the computer is booting. Then another set after I've logged in, and a third once I've started the flash card software I'm using for studying.
As for the diet, all it takes is some self-control during shopping to eat healthy. For setting portion sizes, using the microwave helps, since heating up a second portion would take me another 8 minutes and I'm too lazy to wait that long.
When I'm fasting, I'm making it impossible to get food by hiking on the first day. After that, the hunger is pretty much gone.
