I have trouble getting my pinky under the bar, and I have to have my hands just outside shoulder width with my elbows parallel to the ground. Although I did steal his gopnik lower body technique by flaring my knees out wide at the bottom of the squat. That feels really good for me.

Back squat for posterior chain. You need to he able to sit nack in the squat. If you back squat with your knees way out over your toes like a front squat you just don't know how to squat, simple as. In that case just front squat. They do, in fact, behave quit differently on the body but must be done correctly.

No it isn't. It leaves out the hamstrings and works the glutes less, which is why you do less weight with it. And if I wanted to work my quads more ( why would I want that? ) then I can just switch to highbar back squats. But I like my knee's so I won't be doing that.

The bars weight should be mostly on your shoulders, not your wrist. Arms should just stabilize. It's why crossing arms is easier for some people.
