fuck this shit

took me 6 months of grinding to build up 6+ pounds of pure muscle… I take a measly 2 1/2 month break and I’m literally back to square one?? I have to be tied to this shit for life to retain my gains?

Measurements like that are inaccurate as frick, disregard. It takes an enormous amount of time away from training to lose significant amounts of muscle in trained individuals, and any muscle that is lost comes back very quickly once training resumes anyway, so don't worry about it.

thanks anon, motivation slowly coming back

Why did you skip 2.5 months? Of course you were going to lose something. What a stupid thread.

you’re telling me you’ve never taken a short break, pal?

        2.5 months isnt short
And no, I dont break from fitness in the same way I dont break from showering or wiping my arse, it is a physical form of hygene, it is to be repeated over and overo

2 weeks is a short break. 2 months, as a beginner is basically asking to lose all your gains

That body composition is probably inaccurate and doesn't account for the speed at which you can reclaim what you actually lost. That being said, you should take a week off every other month so that you never end up in a situation caused by the gym that requires you to take several months off.

I overdosed on drugs and got brain damage, had no choice but to stop the gym for a bit

I wish it was larp, first few weeks were very scary because all my basic functions were out of wack e.g. constant thirst no matter how much I drank, inability to feel hunger, waking up shivering every night… eventually that went away but now my memory and thinking speed are noticeably worse and my emotions are practically gone. one the plus side though I used to be very anxious and the anxiety and overthinking pretty much went away so there’s that.

I've been there man, and its fricking hard. I smoked myself stupid and now I have a blue collar job instead of using my stem degree. Along the way I learned how to socialize like a normie and have gained a fulfilling relationship and social life, and I don't have to be high IQ to out work others in and outside the gym so I have plenty of self respect and confidence despite feeling fricking stupid. Part of me hasn't let go yet so I'm slowly learning how to write code on the side to see if I can one day get an office job. I'm still happy and have a normal life despite the mental problems that I battled due to severe drug induced psychosis, which took 5 fricking years to go away.

I took a break for literally a decade. Took me 3 months to bench 100kg+ at a BW of 78kg as a 30 year old boomer.

Yeah you gained 5lbs of muscle in a month for sure.

    Lol

First off, a 2+ month break is ridiculously long and it basically makes you a non-lifter.

Also, a 6-month timeframe is also nothing in the scheme of things as a lifter.

With lifting, you need to have the mindset of years and decades, not months.

    It's literally a multi-year, multi-decade pursuit.

When you fall, you pick yourself back up. There is such a thing like muscle memory and with your current knowledge you’ll get back in shape in no time. Don’t despair.
