the sciatic nerve is a motor nerve, which means it is essential for movement. You also have sensory nerves which govern sensation. Damage to a motor nerve will result in paralysis and decreased function, as well as excruciating pain. The most common problem with sciatic nerve pain and damage is called foot drop, where you are unable to dorsiflex your foot, which significantly alters your gait and likely exacerbates any kind of underlying issue that caused the sciatic nerve damage in the first place.

Stand up and walk homie. You are not designed to be sitting down for most of your life, and that's where sciatica/lower back pain comes from. Get a standing desk, walk around. That's literally the cure

It's intermittent and the VA gives me 100% disability for it so it's not so bad.

Get a microdiscectomy. I currently have a disc bulge in my L5-S1. Idk how c**ts go in with life without getting it treated. Maybe it's due to ignorance.

      Back surgery frightens me tbh

All it takes is one slip up and you’re done for real

back surgery is awful, take 6-12 months and do nothing but dedicate your time to your back injury and do lots of corrective exercise. Go to pain management if the pain is bad, if after 12 months you are still in excruciating pain, then consider back surgery. Back surgery tends to be really good for the short term, but success rates tend to fall precipitously after long term, like 10-15 years.

Ive been having a weird ache in my ass when sitting, Im pretty sure I have piriformis syndrome. Theres two pain points, outside of hip and right in the middle of my buttcheek. Only give me grief when sitting, but it makes no sense as im not sitting with much pressure on it.

I have had on/off sciatic pain since I started lifting at 17yo.

L4-L5 disc bulge reporting in. It did not happen during lifting and isn't so severe, luckily. It's been like 8 or 9 weeks now and the pain was manageable and seems to be getting better on its own after I added lumbar support when I am sitting. I'm really trying to focus on good posture now.

Forever? No. It happened to me. I got drunk with a friend, slept on his couch & woke up with nerve damage, would've been 2014. Anyway, it took about a year to go away but it did. The shooting pain up & down my left glute, hamstring and calf was interesting

I had a full blow out rupture in my L4/L5 disc and tore my Si joint in an accident about 8 years ago now. I couldn’t really walk for 3 months and the sciatic pain was so bad I couldn’t sleep more than 3 hours at a time until they put me on a ton of pills. My quality of life was so horrible I atrophied from 183lbs to about 150 within 6 months. I was in physical therapy and in and out of specialists that wanted to fuse my vertibrae together but I said frick no. I often thought about killing myself very seriously.

Glad I didn’t though. I started doing spinal decompression hangs and saw the first sign of real improvement after 6 months. It took me a full year until I was able to run normally and exercise lightly again. I’ve had issues with my back since and slipped the same disc 2 additional times in the last 2 years which was more emotionally damaging than anything.

As of two weeks ago I got myself a personal trainer in a body building gym that can help me rebuild my strength from total ground zero in a safe way and I’m starting 200mg of test per week on Monday to help things move forward.

This is the best I’ve felt physically and emotionally in 8 years and I couldn’t be more excited to not only get back to my previous level of health and fitness, but surpass it.

We’re all gonna it make it bros, just please be careful with your backs.

Riding a bike fixed mine. I used to have chronic problems with it and after I started riding regularly it completely stopped flaring up.
