>get new heart tracker
>use it with some free app I found
>do an hour of moderate cardio
>it tells me I burned over 800 calories

Are these apps just trying to sabotage fatties? There is no way an hour of cardio burns that much. It's like they're luring fatties into underestimating their calorie count.

You sure it wasn't 80.0 calories?
Sounds redundant I know but they may just always have a decimal

    >work 8 hours, mostly painting, plus 2 hours of walking around
    >5000 calories
I'm 182cm and 85kg, is this realistic for a day? I would have guessed I burned close to 4000 if I wasn't wearing my watch

Rather unrealistic. Its more likely around 3000~3500 calories.

8 hours of working physical labour on top of 2 hours of walking is easily enough to get an 85kg person into the realm of 4800-5200kcal

I doubt that. Not even in the army I was burning so much calories and we were running around for 18 hours straight and i was at best burning 3500 calories but I guess it could be possible if you have a lot of muscle mass. Still, as I already said, its more likely around 3500 calories.

moron, are you forgetting to add BMR to active calories?
When I say an 85kg person can easily get to a 4800-5200kcal daily calorie burn, this is including ~2500kcal from BMR alone.
Just WALKING slowly for 18 hours, with no added weight, is going to burn a minimum of ~3500kcal before you start adding on your BMR.

No, I meant BMR and total calories burned from activities. Those seem like unrealistic numbers to me, even if you are 185cm/90kg 12% bf I doubt that you burn more than 4500 calories in one day. If I would have burned more than 4000 calories in my service I would have lost a lot of weight because I was eating at most 3500 calories but I was also only 175cm/65kg. I just cant imagine people eating 5000 calories just for maintenance, that sounds ridicilous.

                >Those seem like unrealistic numbers to me
Based on what? You have no frame of reference if you've never measured your activity levels or ran the numbers. Pic related. 18 hours of walking at 2.5mph for an 85kg male is ~4500kcal BEFORE you add in BMR.
                >I would have lost a lot of weight because I was eating at most 3500 calories
You weren't counting your calories eaten or your calories burned though.
                >I just cant imagine people eating 5000 calories just for maintenance, that sounds ridicilous.
Just because you can't believe it doesn't mean it isn't real. I cycle to work, I go jogging with my dog twice a day. If i also go to the gym on one such day, I'm hitting 4000kcal that day without feeling particularly worn out. If it weren't for whole milk I would be skeletal.

Thank you very educational poster, there must be something wrong with my calculations. No surprise that Ronnie Coleman had to wake up in the middle of the night for a meal or he would have lost mass.

                Use this website

Link is for their walking calculator but they have calculators for other activities. When I count calories for maintence/cut/bulk based on the numbers from this website it works for me.

Yeah nah my homie, I used to work 9-10 hours a day installing aircon and ventilation ducts, carrying heavy as shit ac units up stairs, getting up and down in and out of the roofspace, running around rushing like hell because we always had frickall time for jobs, permanent 90 bpm heart rate because of aussie heat, and I'd be gaining weight (slowly) on 3500. You're taller and heavier than me so like that other anon said, 3500 might be around your maintenance.

homie michael phelps was in 5 figures for calorie burn
to all the othe morons ITT, assuming you are at least 5'8 and have a decent amount of lean mass, it's very easy to burn over 4000kcal a day
activity trackers aren't 100% accurate, but they are accurate enough to give you a good idea

I know my activity tracker is close to my actual calorie burn because i count my calories and when I eat enough to match what my activity tracker says Ive done, I don't lose weight. If i eat less than what my activity tracker says, then i lose weight

          >it's very easy to burn over 4000kcal a day
and thats why construction workers are so lean, oh wait

            >and thats why construction workers are so lean, oh wait
homie do you know any construction workers? I do
first of all, not all of them actually do "manual" labour, a lot of them just sit in diggers etc al day
but the ones who actually work in hand tools and carry loads come in two sizes: shredded otter and strongfat
It's really easy to burn over 4000kcal a day working a physical job, but it's even easier to consume more than 4000kcal a day because of the appetite that working a physical job gives you.

said, and then it's also relatively easy to eat 4.000 kalories if you eat like shit and drink alcohol reguarly

I dont know why people bother with calorie burnt trackers. Just figure out your tdee, make a goal (surplus or deficit), and then just adjust as necessary. Its a process that requires a little bit of admin, but is infinitely more accurate than " fit watches" etc
