give it to me straight, does fasting destroy your gains?

give it to me straight, does fasting destroy your gains? ive seen people say that fasting fricks your gains because your body eats them first when in starvation mode but this makes no fricking sense, why would your body eat your muscles instead of fat cells?

      >starvation mode
What a meme. This is what food companies use to justify eating their products 8 times per day. Oh no gotta eat every two hours or I'll enter starvation mode and DIE! Meanwhile people out here fasting for 30 days +

It doesn't catabolize muscle right away, but after a certain point. Fasting releases growth hormone which actually promotes muscle growth, to help preserve muscle tissue.

The question is how fat are you? If you are obese obviously your body will have a longer period of time before it starts breaking down muscle for energy. While if you are already skinny as frick you will be at higher risk of muscle catabolism the longer you go.

The problem have with fasting is my body becimes hyper responsive to ghrelin immediately afterwards. In other words, I get really hungry really quickly and as a result I tend to binge eat after fasting a full day. The solution is to eat a shit ton of protein and vegetables which tskes ages to digest a d are very satiating. But for awhile I would just eat anything which would negate the fast snd even form.bad eating habits.

If your high body fat and already used to fasting, then no, your body will burn fat for the most part. If your low body fat, or have never been in a fat burning state in your life, then it'll goblin you some until your adapted to it.

Some muscle loss is inevitable either way, the body still wants its grams of protein and only gets so much from breaking down other cells as part of the process, but the majority is easily mitigated just by maintaining your existing workouts, and still eat well when you do refeed. The rest is easily regained when you are eating again.

Basically as long as you keep working out and don't act moronic with the fasting, like trying to use it as an excuse to eat garbage since you'll burn the calories back off, you'll be fine.

    >but this makes no fricking sense,
First off careful you little shit, you're the one asking the question here of why this is the case, don't say it "makes no fricking sense". If you know all about it then don't bother asking the question.

    >why would your body eat your muscles instead of fat cells?
Why not? Muscles require constant energy, fat does not. Fat is perfectly healthy and even attractive, it's when you have too much that the problems start.

Like that other anon said it depends on how much fat/muscle you had already.

I'll rightly assume you're a fatass and don't need to worry about that.

I've done several multi-day fasts and have not lost any gains. In fact, a few days after ending the fast, I've even shattered PRs for heavy lifts like squat and bench.

if you're worried just do alternate day fasting, or fast just once or twice per week

Fasting won't destroy your gains, but it will hurt your recovery. So if you're fasting while sore your ability to build muscle will be diminished. Fasting won't make you lose muscle unless you do it for like 7+ days

Your body doesn't store free proteins. Your muscle tone is simply muscle protein synthesis vs degradation. While fasting you will have no protein with which to actually create muscle protein.

Your body needs sugar to keep blood sugar from falling too low or you die. Triglycerides can be converted into blood sugar from the glycerol backbone but I'm pretty sure your body would rather use more freely available proteins(all of your organs and muscle tissue) intended for this purpose rather than trying to break down a triglyceride just for the glycerol. As long as you have glycogen in your liver and muscle cells, your body is going to preferentially use those rather than muscles. If your not on 0 carb and low protein diet, you should have no problems fasting 24-72 hours depending on how much activity you do during the fast. After around 72 hours all of your glycogen should be used up even if your sedentary and then the body will need to maintain blood glucose through gluconeogenesis.

Fasting to drop weight is a terrible idea especially if you are trying to keep lean mass higher unless there is some reason you want your organs to shrink(drug/HGH abuse, potentially loose skin but everything will shrink in proportion since it's a systemic deficit of proteins).

    intermittent fasting is the answer
Fast for 16 hours (includes while you sleep) and then eat within an 8 hour window.

4 hour window. 8 hour window is pretty much just a normal diet.
