it's good if you only take it as needed to sleep. never take it during the day only at night

is it possible to avoid? i dont eat much and tend to ignore hunger pretty well

You can't avoid it. It directly stimulates your appetite via serotonin. You can ask your doctor for trazodone for sleep, just watch out for boners.

This. Screwed me up - weight gain (fat), mood swings (in the middle of a breakdown - unhelpful), sleeping 13 hours a day and not feeling rested, ultra-vivid surreal dreams. Just don't.

Your sleep will improve but side effects are not worth it.
You will feel hungry all the time and too tired to work out.
Honestyly prefer being depressed to taking mirtazapine.

I had the worst time trying to get off it. Bad withdrawals but I was taking 15mg nightly for over a year. I'd fix the underlying issue first pal. Also lowers your test and saps your energy the next day.

As an actual insomniac ill give you and possible sleepless anons in this thread some advice.
First of all sleeping meds all have downsides and unless you have a persistent problem over time that seems unsolvable by normal means(cutting caffeine/screentime before bed/making sure you get some physical activity even on rest days etc) you should avoid it (melatonin is an exception but im assuming youve already tried it if youre going for mirtazapine)
Mirtazapine is generally considered a bad offlabel sleep med since its primarily and antidepressant, negative side effects are pretty heavy and for many the sleep aid is neglible.

Sleep meds that are not addictive "too heavy" in terms of sides and being okay for long term use but still effective are seroquel instant release and ambien. Most people will fall asleep from both of these as long as youre tired when you take them, some dont like ambien because it makes you loopy, its definetly the heavier measure between the two of them. Dont be scared of the fact that seroquel instant is an antipsychotic as the Instant release means youre not "on it" except the time between taking it and sleep, in this form it essentially works as a more sleep inducing antihistamine.

If you take any of these including mirtazapine when youre not sleepy it will make you feel the side effects harder and probably not even sleep.

if you're truly on the verge of losing your sanity/job/relationships due to sleep deprivation just go to your least savory friend and ask them if they could help you get some benzos
take them in the lowest effective dose for a few weeks and then get your ass in a sleep lab and start aggressively making lifestyle changes
and if you live in a country where it's feasible and your finances allow, ditch the homosexual who gave you that script

Horrible advice, benzos are not very good sleep aid compared to even a simple antihistamine and will frick you up hard if you need it even for 1-2 months. Taking meds for sleep if its a short term issue is not reccomended

This, any doctor who prescribes you such a harmful chemical is not invested in your wellbeing.

You are dishonest with yourself and thats why you have convinced yourself you need medication to sleep
Your brain is perfectly able to sleep, you just dont live like a normal human
To think that your brain is somehow incapable of performing it's critical function, and yet you're clearly still alive because you DO sleep means you are lying to yourself

    >Getting prescribed antidepressants as a sleep aid
Your doctor is either a moron, or malicious israelite.
Try valerian root, and if that's not quite strong enough, go for doxylamine (you should be able to get it OTC).

I tried taking it for a couple weeks to help with depression. It made me very tired and I would be extremely cranky if I didn't get enough sleep. I also had an increase in appetite. My aquatic urticaria went away after I started taking it and it's never come back though so that's neat.
