ideally, you would start boxing and wrestling with some lads, form a junto club, then take over your city counsel or something

suggestion for club name? recruitment method?

Unironically, the idea of founding some kind of club where we would practice martial arts, work out, read philosophy, etcetera, amazes me. Something along those lines is being done by Elisha Long and the High Thumos group, but I find those guys to be too vulgar and kind of your typical midwits.

yah, and it doesnt even need to be a formalized club, but more a loose group of acquaintances meeting together to develop physically, philosophically and politically. more like kids on a playground than an organized club. a general atmosphere, if you will

I'm a historian, if there's anything specific you want to know feel free to ask. If you want to learn Greek history you should start with Histories by Herodotus, who was the first historian. He was born shortly after the first war with Persia, and grew up hearing stories about it from his elders. So he wrote a book to preserve those memories, and provides commentary on how trustworthy he thinks what they said was. There's a lot you'll learn about greek society from the details in that book.

Okay historypal, what lifts, what vocabulary, what attitude. How to work the modern grindset with the greekcel mode of life?

The Greeks were as a general rule much more interested in body weight exercises than lifting. An ancient Greek gymnasium (which is where our word comes from) was usually an open air area where people ran, wrestled, did pushups and situps, and what lifting they did do was with handheld stones that had a hole drilled into them for your thumb. Greek gymnasiums required everyone to be nude (which was a problem for ancient israelites living in Greece, as circumcision was a source of derision) and they were not so keen on bathing. That was a Roman thing. Instead the Greeks would get clean after a workout by having a slave boy cover their body in olive oil, and then scrape it off.

The ancient Greeks were a highly militaristic society where military service was an expected duty of citizenship, so citizens regularly trained military drills in armor. Those of a higher status who could afford a horse would train in riding, and everyone also trained to be an oarsman in the city's navy if it had one.

Not that anon, but there was no unified "Greek" way of life. Everyone viewed their polis as their corner of the world and essentially their own country, which meant that everything (including physical training) was dependent on where you were. There were some overlapping activities simply based on the fact that they were simple (calisthenics, running) and some activities that translated to warfare and games (throwing, wrestling) but other activities depended on your region. Athenians lived on the water, so rowing was huge. People of the plains like Thessaly had an easier time doing longer distanced running, while people in the more mountainous regions were more practiced in hiking and climbing. And of course Sparta had their own regimens that a citizen would live through until their military retirement at age 60.
There's also some documentation (maybe its just extrapolated, aka pulled out of one's ass) about training structures but it boiled down to "don't be moronic and go all out every work out". A breakdown can be seen here https://youtu.be/UF9CRW_AguA
The main thing about "going greek" would mainly be about lifestyle. As long as you train consistently and with enough intensity, that sufficient for whatever you're doing. But you need to balance that training with recovery, proper diet, more general activity (i.e. walking fricking everywhere) and fairly low stress life (at least as citizens) with plenty of sunlight and socialization.

It is not. This is Thucydides. Note how it looks nothing like the OP. OP's pic is a statue of Caesar which is in the louvre. It was made by Nicolas Cousteau made in the early 1700s.

            Idiot.

Wrestling and forearm exercises. I've heard that Olympic athletes were the models for ancient Greek statues of gods which is why they all have super juicy forearms.
