why do these old guys like arnold, mentzer, oliva etc look better than elite bodybuilders today? i'm not just talking about the obvious aesthetic differences either; mentzer has better pecs than anyone who was in mr olympia this year, let alone arnold

      >no tren, test or HGH
      >not required to cut down to some absurd disgustingly low body fat
      >no gay focus on huge quads and ass so they can put more effort on back chest and arms
      >they were actually strong [arnold for example won a lot of powerlifting contests]

They literally didn’t use test though. Are you trolling or are you just a fricking clueless newbie? Synthetic testosterone in those days was trash and made you fat. None of the bodybuilders touched it, they were all on dianabol, primo and deca.

How did they get by without a test base? And if this was so good for them how come EVERYONE says to do a test cycle and have a test base for every cycle ever?

I’m not a fricking doctor, I don’t know why it worked or how it worked. All i know is they just took a frick ton of orals and you can look it up and see for yourself this is true.

dbol can be used as a test base. It aromatizes into estradiol.

These, especially the ultra low body fat and the xbox quads. Ever since I started focusing more on upper body and downsized my legs, my physique has improved tenfold and I still squat over 4plates. The leg day meme is one of the worst things to happen to fitness.

Pulling this outta my ass but I imagine it's because steroids probably weren't as crazy as they are today. A great comparison, compare Arnold's body pre-tren and post-tren, you'll probably find I'd pre-tren body a lot more aesthetic. They also probably had a little more bodyfat, a lot of them are very well-proportioned with muscles that look like they fill out the skin, rather than skin looking thin and muscles bursting out..

      Also no shitty spray tans

        >steroids probably weren't as crazy as they are today
The steroids themselves, yes. The amounts? Nah, they were downing dbol by the handful. Larry Scott supposedly almost killed himself with it, Jerry Brainum talks about how he once saw Freddy Ortiz go through a whole tub in one meal, a handful between every bite.

        The whole
        >we only ever took 1 dbol tablet a day for the 8 weeks before a contest, we were practically natural!
        is bs

All bodybuilders used to come from athletic backgrounds, in the 1900s it was circus performers and gymnasts, in arnolds era it was common for bodybuilders to be former or current powerlifters and strongmen. These activities built cause hypertrophy that builds thick and dense muscle fibers. Nowadays its rare to have an open bodybuilder that isn't just a guy with a completely drug built physique who does exclusively fluff and pump high volume workouts from the start which mostly favors sarcoplasmic (fluid) hypertrophy. The qualities of the muscle are way different when they are exclusively built from high volume moderate intensity workouts. Also the drugs are different, most guys back in arnolds day used dbol which keeps you looking full, and they also didn't cut to nearly the level that modern bodybuilders do.

it does seem that almost everyone now has "poor genetics". I suppose this is a consequence of the fact basically anyone can become a bodybuilder now if they stuff themselves with enough gear, whereas in the past you had to be very athletic to even get to the point where'd you want to take PEDs

They have an healthy looking skin, a nice natural tan and their vascularity is not over the top
Meanwhile every bodybuilder contestant has thin dick skin, 3 layers of brown spray paint on top of their shitty UV chamber tan and offputting vascularity

Because bodybuilding was between the era of natural bodybuilding, the advent of anabolic steroids, and the genetic freak beast mass monsters we have today

This was a time when people were juicing but also lying about it and getting away with it. It's all relative.

Guys like Rich Piana (RIP) are the new school, they are open about doing PEDs and so the expectation and competition is far bigger than Arnold or the old bodybuilders.

this response doesnt make a great deal of sense. also, the entire point about today's "mass monsters" is that they aren't genetic freaks at all, which is the major reason they look so shit

People say the reason for the “thick” muscles is that they used wet compounds. Could you even look that lean with deca, dbol and primo? Wouldn’t the water weight hide all definition.

      >Wouldn’t the water weight hide all definition.
Nah. Even back then they did bulking and cutting cycles. This is Arnold in the off season

What did they cut with though, did they switch to dryer compounds like primo? Or just cut on frick ton of whatever they could find including “wet” stuff like deca and dbol? Like how would you get that look.

According to Casey Viator he was on 2.5 grams a week of deca, "god knows" how much dbol and primo, and a little GH (contrary to common belief GH WAS around in the 70s, Dorian was the first guy to go nuts on it though)

As big as Arnold and all the other guys from that era were, there was always a realistic aspect to their bodies. It always seemed like, if you put in the fricking work and took enough roids you could look like them. Not cbum or any of the newer bodybuilders. They don’t look human anymore. It’s gross.

        Anonymous

Yes we get it. You like to cope for the fact that you will never had Chad's genetics by calling it "gross" and "inhuman." Some people are just beautiful and they tend to be tall, white, with blue eyes and strong jaws.

I’m literally 6’2 and white with blue eyes as well. Nowhere near cbum’s physique tho (goes without saying kek)

I'm not mad. My point is we're witnessing one of the greatest dynasties of all time unfold from the second most popular bodybuilder of all time, behind Arnold—who is famous for his acting not bodybuilding. Cbum has grown the billion-dollar fitness industry and the sport of bodybuilding more than any other bodybuilder and will go down in history as one of the greats. He's going to be on gym walls decades from now, and I'll be able to tell my kids I was there. Guys like these are once in a generation.

The funniest part is guys from that era and people who enjoyed bodybuilding of that era really appreciate today's classic physiques. Remarks like "finally someone with the flow and proportion of Zane!" are common surrounding figures like Bumstead. Meanwhile internet neckbeards and dyels on IST will try to tear him down.

Try his HIT. I tried it for 4 weeks, it did not work. I did learn what going to true failure was for me, so it was worth it.

I am not roiding, I did it for less than 6 weeks, I'm older, and I'm not throwing up power lifter weights, so you can take that anecdotally, but then again if you're looking for gains from doing 1 set a week you can probably guess why this dude is still controversial today.
