Growing up you admired the bench press
Adulthood is knowing it was the Overhead press all along.
>Impresses everyone in the room
>Separates the men from the boys (seriously, full grown men struggle with 30kg LOL)
>Girls fucking LOVE it
>Actually functional
>Builds that Hercules look
>Puts meat on ya delts like no other
>Knows when you have missed 1 calorie and will discipline you accordingly
Fellas, when did you realize OHP is the one?
>growing up you thought the barbell was the best fitness tool
>becoming an adult you realize that it was rings all along
>STILL HOLDING
must not be that hard if he can do it while smoking ring fags are all dyel and coping kek
>must not be that hard if he can do it while taking a stimulant
Anon, Vince Vaughn is an actor. In a movie.
exactly his dyel ass can do it so it must not be that impressive try benching 315 under 15% bf
try it yourself satan
I don't really need to harness working out to make me feel like a man, you do you though
Growing up you admired muscle and athletic performance.
Adulthood is knowing it was a library of scientific journal entries on ekg studies all along.
give me one good reason i should do OHP if it doesn't hit the side or rear delts much and most lifters already have overdeveloped front delts from doing bench press
Some people still think OHP doesn't hit side nor rear delts in 2k23?
have you tried not coping so hard?
It feels great to lift big things over your head.
>he doesn't know about (bent-over) lat raises
Kek
>seriously, full grown men struggle with 30kg LOL)
i struggle with 20 kek
any guides on how to get to handstand pushups? fuck ohp
Stand on your fucking hands and push yourself up. Seriously, what the fuck do you want anyone to tell you?
handstand pushups are a meme. Your head gets in the way so you have tiny babby ROM. Absolutely useless
Rate my OHP bros
This was my first 2 plate strict OHP press.
>push press
not an ohp
This is bait but you should be doing push press also. I do mine after a full set of ohp to get used to heavier weight. The reason it’s easier is because the first part of the OHP is the hardest. That’s also why you’ll have extra push presses in the tank after you’re fried on OHP.
>you should be doing push press
Gbye knees
What are some must remember things for OHP? I move my hands underneath the bar not unlike when starting, squeeze my glutes and push up as much as possible, anything else to keep in mind?
I can do 50kgs for 5 reps which is a pretty nice improvement, hoping to get above 1plaet this year.
Hold breath till peak position. The maneuver helps not to get an hernia. Also remember get your spine as straight as possible during the list, don't be silly. Snap city is very close when doing OHP.
Post pictures of those hamplanets.
Yeah, I'd say that at times I sorta lean back too much and put some strain on the lower spine because of it, I guess I'll be more conscious of it.
I squeeze that motherfucker as hard as I can, as if I wanted to rip the bar in half.
Breathing into my stomach and bracing gave me a lot of progress, I recommend doing that if you aren't already.
Yes, breathing is a good tip. Honestly a bit of leanback is fine in my opinion, because then you can drive your body forward under the bar when you hit the sticking point at forehead height
Squeeze the bar as hard as you can, train very high volume and frequency. Also, OHP strength drops quite fast when I lose weight, more so than any other lift unfortunately
OH DON'T LEAN ON ME MAN CUZ YOU CANT AFFORD THE TICKET
BACK FROM SNAP-FRAGETTE CITY
>have a 32kb kettlebell at home
>never managed more than a double with it (1 handed press obviously)
>haven't touched it in months, last time I tried I didn't even get a single with it
Need to get my press back up so I can mogg my friends when they come round next
>struggling to press a 32lb kettlebell for reps
Wew lad
Kilos not lbs my bad
The jump to 32kg is really something different, isn't it? But it's rewarding. I managed 3x32kg and messed up my shoulders so I had to start over.
When women start to understand you can toss them over your head for laughs they get a funny tingle in their pants.
I only prefer OHP over bench because my bench and chest is god awful and I love training shoulders.
functional
Strict OHP is one of the most useless meme lifts tbqh. I'm not sure I've ever actually seen an athlete in any sport do an OHP. I can pull up scores of images of top-level athletes (boxers, NFL players, NBA players) doing overhead landmine work. Furthermore, despite the alternate name "military press", I don't believe it gets used in any modern military context. Just take the landmine pill.
Mate, we used to do a lot of OHP in my rugby team when ostracized to the gym after losing a match due to lack of strength. Our coach was strict as fuck and a real pain in the ass but he taught us good.
Pic somehow related.
>pic
>Friends girlfriend puts this on
>Me and bros all complain
>45 minutes in
>She's about ready to turn it off
>Damn near crying
>Bros digging it
>She leaves
>We finish the movie and talk about how the teacher did nothing wrong
>She's seething about male attitudes or some nonsense
all in all 7/10
Because it's not a music-movie. It's a sports-movie, about music.
Movie is great. Really makes you think the pain you get through and the layers that must be uncovered in order to get to your real self and what you're capable of.
She left at the break up bit, didn't she?
Lol
OK, but why don't professional athletes do it? I can find millions of examples of pro athletes lifting 2/3/4 on the bench/squat/DL (mostly hex bar) as part of their regular training yet I can't seem to find even one photo or video of a regular athlete (so not a powerlifter/bodybuilder/strongman who lives to do countless esoteric lifts) doing this movement for even 1pl8, much less 2pl8+ which you would think a big NFL player could easily do. Why?
culture + ohp is hard
they are homosexuals,
>no homo
Like quite a lot of compound lifts, putting up bigger numbers on OHP requires good technique. Fine if having a high OHP is your goal, but not so much if you're just trying to develop generalised strength and power for sports. Landmine press is probably more 'idiot-proof' in terms of progression, and also has more carry-over to athletic movements where you're typically trying to push something up in front of you, rather than directly overhead.
The landmine press is better because due the lever it has more resistance at the bottom and less at the top. Being that we can handle more on the eccentric this causes more mechanical and can be loaded heavier.
bench builds OHP anyway, ohp doesn't build bench.
I FUCKING LOVE OH. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE A MAN
>Girls fucking LOVE it
Agree in all topics except for this one as I've never seen any girl looking at dudes doing OHP in the gym.
Currently returning to train after almost 1 year, and going (very) slow. I reached LMAO1PL8 doing OHP 11 months ago but I never got mires in my life so I don't count.
>Verification not required.
girls ohp 1 plate in my gym
most struggle with 30kg? i don't believe that
Symmetric strength says a novice (not lifting) can do up to 45x5 lol
I would say the average untrained ohp 1rm is around 30-40kg. Skinny guys I see will start with the bar for sets of 5, and the guys that bench 60-80kg for reps will ohp around 30-40kg for reps in my experience
t. observer
I can’t wait to start bulking again so my OHP can go back up. Max i’ve hit was 155x5 but I’ve been at 140 for a while now.
i've been at it for 10 years and haven't really made gains in 6. tired so many things, i just don't know anymore
When you have a decent OHP the whole gym starts watching you lift
t. training to hit 250 lbs this peaking cycle, any working weight over 1.5pl8 I start getting looks in my university gym
Bitterness and burden
Curses rest on me
Solitaire and sorrow
All eternity
Crushed to the heavy skies
Atlas rise!
Anon it's blatantly obvious overhead press cultists are just first year lifters getting hyped up about it from reddit and SS. You're not fooling anyone but other people like yourself.
