      If you just wanna grow your glutes, do hip thrusts or cable glute pull throughs. Even if you do a variation on squatting movements that triggers more glute activation, it will still be more quad dominant.

    Yes it's better for quad gains, especially if you do it right (narrower stance lower on the plate, full ROM with max knees forward vs half repping with as much weight as possible with a wide stance).
    But I don't care. I don't train legs to make them bigger, I train lifts that involve my quads/hams/glutes for strength. Only reason for me to do a leg press is as a quad accessory.
    And your legs are going to grow a lot even if you only lift for strength in your lower body, I don't have a quad weakness so for me leg press is useless right now.

    Here's my experience:
    1 squat > 1 leg press, sure
    But 1 squat takes about as much energy as 3 leg presses. And 3 leg presses provide wayyy more isolated quad hypertrophy than 1 squat for the same amount of energy.
    So no, you can't replace squats with an equal number of leg press sets. But if you actually do enough leg presses, your legs will feel like jelly and you'll still have some energy left over.

        Imagine you have 10 energy points. Lets say squats cost 3 energy points and yield 2 points of quad growth. Leg presses on the other hand cost 1 energy point and yield 1 point of quad growth.
        You can do up to 10 leg presses, yielding 10 pts of quad growth, but only up to 3 squats, yielding 6 pts of growth.
        Doing some combination of squats and leg presses is better than doing just squats, but it will never yield as much growth as leg presses for the same amount of energy.
