Hey?

Hey IST

For those experienced ulcerative colitis or Crohns - what's your story?
I'm currently 61-62kg, and I'll have to be honest - I'm really struggling to keep going forward.
Meat only diet was hard on my body ketoflu wise but it reduced the inflammation. Was on that for 3 weeks. 6 months later, I'm attempting Specific Carbohydrate Diet to deal with my UC, which reduced the symptoms a bit - but it's still bloody D that I have to sometimes deal with, nevermind the fatigue and weight loss. Doing my best to not get to taking Prednizone, but I decided to take it in February if i see no progress that lets me live on diet only.
I have a wonderful girlfriend that's very understanding of my sudden "I'll talk to you later, feeling unwell atm", but I know I won't be able to keep her if I don't get any better. Just want to move on with my life.
Before all this I biked every day, was a competent boulderer, and had decent numbers for my 73kg bodyweight at 12% bf. All time low was 59kg because of this, and it's very mentally tough to go back there.

Have you tried low FODMAP diet? Might help.

I have, and right now I have an extremely restrictive diet of SCD + low FODMAP just to keep it safe. Currently only eating a bite of banana per meal, pureed squash, and meat (thankfully, any kind as long as it's not very fatty)

        Good luck.
I guess you can survive on pumpkin/squash, celeriac, parsnips, carrots and potatoes + meat of your choice. I would throw soft boiled eggs and maybe chicken liver in here and there since they have valuable micros. Also try homemade kefir if you can get it somewhere.

          no potatoes, no parsnips
for some reason carrots frick me up too
          shit ain't pretty
i'm only eating those three items for now because i'm in the initial stages of this diet which doesn't rec high fat consumption, avoidance of fiber, etc

If i could eat potatoes and parsnips i would have no fricking problem lmao, i could eat a kilo of potatoes and be happy
Doing my best to keep the dark thoughts away these days

Seems like a pretty fricked case if even taters and carrots are that bad for you. Keep up the elimination and see if you can add anything.

    Hey anon, my sympathy.

I've been 2 years with digestive problems. At the begining, I got somes tests done, there were irritation in the colon, no blood hidden in feces and some allergy of which I were not aware. So I started to avoid the foods of the allergy and got different medication, but lately digestion have gone worse and have random joints pain for few days (doctors told me they are ok), so I got more tests done, colon irritation is worse and SIBO positive. I started low FODMAP diet and got treatment, but I'm still bad, gotta get colonoscopy to see what's going on.

I can tell you some people don't understand that you are so tired that you don't want to make exceptions with your routine, like if their amusement were more important than your health, so frick them.

    Take care, op.

      OP here
hey man, if push comes to shove, try the following diets (plus whatever medication you feel like you need to assist yourself with)

      Carnivore (specifically PKD)
      SCD
and if you're SIBO positive - trying the "SIBO Specific Diet", which combines SCD and low FODMAP is a valid approach, which is what I'm trying now

I went from 10-11 bloody diarrhea BMs a day, to 5-6. Less blood, less urgency. It ain't the fix, at least for now (week 3 of this), but it's definitely helping.

Carnivore reduced the inflammation the most and i saw no more blood at all with it, but the keto flu PLUS sudden gut flora change was really hard on me.

Got UC diagnosed in 2019, been a wild ride since. I've been Bale'ing between 130(~60kg) and 170 (~77kg) for the past 3 years. 5 or 6 hospital stays, a couple of them were almost the end due to dehydration and severe inflammation. Got it fricked up again in mid December, but managed to keep afloat up until a week ago. Prednizone and mesalazine daily now, Tramadol for the pain. Hopefully for another week only

It's living life on an additional hard mode level. Deadlifting seems to induce a flare-up for me, even lame weight can piss my colon off, some food and drinks I really can't let go of also trigger it. It is what it is fella, push on and try not to mind it. There's other, even worse diseases and whatever, so it could be worse.

We do lots of outdoors stuff with my girl, I'm known as the forest shitter. Make fun of it, try to stay away from crap food and stress and carry on.

begging the Lord to let me find one source of carbs that i can have a decent amount of so i can stop losing weight tbh

You just have worms or something. Doctors in first world countries never even check because they thing it "doesn't happen here".

      Afraid it's not that

Hey OP, me here on top of the UC flare, I just discovered I have perianal abscess, right by the funhole. It's never boring around my ass, I'll tell you that. I'll be draining it myself in front of a mirror when it grows big enough to pop. Keep strong brother, don't go on gear like that other moron mentioned. There will be better days at some point.

I've had a similar story. It started with a stomach flu. That took me out for 2 weeks and ever since I had terrible pains, bad BMs sudden exhaustion, nausea, etc. I slowly starts to better itself, but it's still super unpredictable. I started out at 71kg with 9%bf and now I'm down to 61kg. My doctors told me it a psychological issue since all tests seems to be fine. In the end I tried different diets and healthy cooking. That helped the most. Cooking healthy and stop eating junk food, limit soda drinks, dink lots of tee, no coffee. I have days where I feel absolutely amazing, no issues at all. And other days, I can do the exact same thing but be in constant pain and on the toilet all the time...

"Keto flu" is low electrolytes. I'd suggest trying meat only again, but supplement sodium, potassium, and magnesium. You can try drinking broth, easier than pounding straight salts. I developed UC symptoms when I was 19, never got diagnosed because it resolved when I moved out and stopped eating my mom's pasta and beans all the time. Been on a near carnivore diet ever since, some rice and potatoes now and then. Godspeed, OP.

Yeah i was doing it properly, afraid chugging broth twice a day + organs was not the solution, and i was doing it from day one, and even before starting carnivore

Do you know your exact intake? I've read some carnivore/keto people see benefits up to absurd sodium intakes, like 8 or 9g per day. Other than that, I'd suggest 3 weeks isn't a long time when you have so much chronic gut damage, and you should try sticking it out a bit longer if it means less blood in the bowl. The way forward is hard regardless, I wish you success no matter which path you take.

thanks brother, we'll see how it goes
and yeah, i was definitely saltmaxxing like crazy (it was the only way to flavour anything anyways)

did you ever try to fix your microbiome? you will only frick it more with all those meme diets.
look up dr. gominak or dr. somerville. Jeff t bowels talks a lot about cofactors. look up magnesium and why it's important for colon. tons of info on microbiome and how to fix it.
Start eating fermented foods like kefir (start with water and move to milk kefit (from not pasteurized milk. pasteurized milk is a poison), look up how to deal with bloating when eating fermented foods (you will have issues with that only in the beginning). I don't remember the name of a guy who wrote a book where he explans it. the book is about microbiome and has hundreds of thousands of sales. but he is vegan schizo, don't fall for complete elimination of meat.
my relative had uc. years of pain. but now only 2 polips and no pain. D3 with all cofactors and healthy food with nothing that ruins microbiome (seed oils, emulsifiers, sweeteners, artificial flavors, processed foods) and lots of prebiotics and probiotics helped.
    Good luck.

    >what's your story?
Got diagnosed with it when i was 16. Tried a lot of diets but nothing worked even in the slightest. Had to temporarily hop on prednisone which made me look like a fat moron and act like a moron too due to all the side effects. Currently injecting Humira every week but that doesnt work properly for me either so i will have to change the medication in the next few months again.

I really fricking hate living with this shit but i dont let it stop me from pursuing my dreams. I will achieve everything that i want to achieve despite suffering from this moronic illness because living life on hard mode doesnt mean that you have to live a shitty life. Over time you will get used to living with this illness and you will figure out ways how to deal with it.

I also recommend you to start with medication soon because the people who claim that diets worked for them are a very small minority who just got lucky and its not even proven if its actually their diets that helped them stopping the inflammation in the first place. If you have a severe case a diet alone will most likely not help you. However once youre on medication you should still eat clean.

just try d3. it does a better job than any medication for any autoimmune disease and it's needed to bugs in your gut as well (they get it from us). helthy people have more bacteria than their own cells in them. it's a whole chemical factory in you. if you have fricked up microbiome, you are fricked.
I wouldn't make such statements if i didn't know several people who got rid of their autoimmune diseases, including uc

I already take d3 daily since i cant go into the sun but even combined with my meds its not enough. My sister has UC too, she only takes mesalazine and still never experiences any flare ups while have flare ups every 3 months even though i take hard meds. Some people are just unlucky

you don't know anything about d3 if your response is "I already take d3". How much do you take and what is your blood level? you have a pathology and you need to raise it to 90-100 ng/ml (normal 40-80 ng/ml, but if you take less than 8k iu, you won't have it even above 40). d3 doesn't work without magnesium and fricks you up if you don't take k2mk7, boron, beta carotenes

You can try heal your gut with L glutamine
    1st day 10gr
    2nd day 20 gr
    3-8 30 gr
After that 10 gr for maintenance

Always divide your intakes in portions of 10 grams and take on an empty stomach

Have you tried actual keto?I knew a guy with Crohns, he was significantly better on keto.

Isn't this just needing more salt?

    >started having symptoms in 2019 at age 19 possibly before
    >had trouble gaining weight and would shit a lot
    >thought it was caffeine allergy
    >during covid be at home all day drop from 175 to 155 at my lightest
    >get hospitalized for what I think is an appendicitis
    >turns out to be crohns
    >get on steroids, then start humira
    >basically symptom free atm have an MRI to see if there’s inflammation since there’s too much damage to do a proper colonoscopy
    >started seriously lifting again in September 2021 and gained most of my muscle back and then some
    >currently sitting around 198 in the the morning depending on the day
    >body is pic related
I have low vitamin D and B12 so i’m taking 10,000 IU a day for a week and then dropping the dosage, overall I think i’m pretty lucky in that outside of occasional ER visits when food gets caught in the scar tissue in my stomach I dont find crohns severely impacts my life or lifting. Would definitely recommend biological, I have no blood or stool inflammatory markers
