accepting you are fat and have a problem and that it's going to take changes over a long period of time to fix the problem, no shortcuts no magic pills. that's step 1.

On the one hand I kinda agree, on the other this sounds like 12 step god-bullshit. Step 2 on 12 step is powerlessness to change it, which is the opposite of step 2 on weight loss, which is the actual first step.

Step one: admitting that the only way to change it is hard work

Step two: doing the hard work.

Step three: keep doing the hard work

Step four: keep doing the hard work

Knowing you are fat and committing to a plan you make.
Maybe it's ditching snacking, soda, and other tasty unhealthy foods.
Maybe it's looking at yourself in the mirror and changing.
Maybe it's moving more and eating less.

Once you start, and commit it gets easier. There will be setbacks, frick ups, and issues.
    Just remember to keep going.

the first step would be to start eating less
A more complete answer would be to cut out all filler foods and junk. Eat your 2-3 meals a day and nothing else, if you do need to eat a snack during the day have it be planned out, like a few nuts in the late afternoon or something like that
You need to accept that you will be hungry, but you’ll be fine, you won’t die or starve to death

Decide to do one meal a day and then just do it.

nobody posted the actual first step. Actually seriously make an effort to count your calories. Every snack. Every drink. Every little morsel of food down your gullet must be tabulated.

Ironically, if you're fat in the West this should be easier since most of your food is fast food and snacks and shit, so everything has a nice nutrition label available somewhere. It gets a little harder when you're just kinda cooking on your own but it's still doable.

Once you know how much you're eating, just eat at a deficit and you WILL lose weight 100% guaranteed. If you eat a deficit but still eat junk food you're probably going to lose a lot of muscle alongside fat but that only matters if you care about your health and fitness at your target weight.

i'm currently taking my first steps into weight loss and generally improving my health, so i'll give you what i have right now in terms of info without being a shithead like it seems most anons do.

first and foremost, take the time to do your research and only trust sources that are based in fact. listening to any idiot on the internet or company trying to shill you supplements about what to do to your body is not the best route. yes it sucks to have to do your homework but it'll help you greatly in the long run to be properly educated. here's some things that have helped me so far:

    >Neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman's podcast: Using Deliberate Cold Exposure for Health and Performance

    >Ohio State Sports Medicine pre-workout stretch routine

i've also started logging my exercise and general food intake without worrying about exact calories or even reducing calorie intake. i'm just making sure to get enough protein to fuel my body and not feel bogged down by either not eating enough or eating too much. if you're deadset on calorie deficit for weight loss, i suggest going to the /fat/ thread and reading the info in the OP. personally, i have a history of eating disorder behaviors and i already have a hard time eating enough, so i'm shifting my focus to exercise instead.

Anons are not aligned with what OP asked.

There are a lot of very good things to do in this thread. But the first step is literally just move a little bit more. Because virtually anyone can do this, and it takes very little willpower. People addicted to bad food won't quit cold turkey, and it's very hard to self-regulate food.

It is very easy to set an alarm once every hour, get off your ass and walk one lap around the house.

If you are fat, even this tiny amount of work will give you results; not just in weight, but also in endorphins. Before you know it, you'll want to do more because it feels good. Then you can change your diet and start a real exercise plan.

Replace all sugary drinks with water. Some coffee or tea is also acceptable, so long as it’s not affecting how much water you drink
