Put "dumbbell handles" in the search bar. I hate the end of the bar sticking out since it makes it hard to set up for certain lifts but you can use the ends as handles which is nice sometimes. Get oly size, btw.

Oly dumbbells are a pain in the ass to adjust, buy at your own peril. I would have probably gotten bowflex instead if i knew how annoying it would be

Oly dumbbells are a scam and insanely unwieldy unless you work out at absolutely moronic weights (70kg+ dumbbells), at that price point you can get adjustable blocks if space is small or a full rack.
Clearly price isn't a massive issue since you are opting for a full 51mm set of oly weights.

-Pepin Fast dumbbells if you're rich (20 to 120 lbs)
-Nuobells if you've got money but not Pepin money (5 to 80 lbs)
-Ironmaster if weight > convenience (5 to 165 lbs in 2.5 lb increments)
-Bowflex Selecttech for a midrange budget
-Generic dumbbells with 2" Olympic sleeves that'll share weight plates with your barbells if you're on a budget. If budget allows, works well with Rogue's thin Olympic plates, or Bells of Steel's thin-ish machined plates

Thank you sir, finally someone useful here.

What do you think of these ones:

From what I know of Nordictrak DB's, they're about on par with Powerblocks, with some of their own pros and cons. See review that compares them to other adjustable DB's

imo if you're a girl or planning on staying thin / not exercising primarily for size/strength, then 55 lb DB's are fine. But if you're looking for something that'll last you a while, then look for ones that max out closer to 70-80 lbs

Do the ironmasters rattle when you use them? I hate how the cheap ones I have rattle around. I’ve been using screw on ones mainly for that reason

I haven't gotten to use Pepin's myself, but Ironmasters are the most solid of the DB options I listed. imo the Ironmasters are better than Nuobell in basically every way except for ease of adjusting - but that's probably one of the biggest factors in quality of life of any adjustable DB

Personally for our home gym we have both a pair of Nuobells and a pair of Ironmasters - one for most use cases, and the other for going heavier than 80 lbs (or when I'm working out with a friend and one's already in use)

imagine spending several hundred bucks just on dumbbells

decathlon here has dumbbells for 60€, plus a few extra weights for up to 25kg on each side you're looking at 100€
and you can use the same weights for your barbell too

Don't bring the 28mm truth here anon, don't you know everyone here benches 3pl8 and needs and oly barbell and has a budget of 5k usd?!

this is what I did, got the adjustable set for $64 and later bought 4x5kg plates for $80
now I have two 20kg adjustable dumbbells for less than $150

also get pic related if you plan on changing weights frequently

Can any of these seriously last renegade rows?

  12. 1 year ago

I just went around on FB marketplace buying up 1" plates as they popped up and wound up with 95lb a side, and I can load one handle heavier for stuff like rows.

if you think you're only ever gonna need up to 50 lbs and don't mind clunky mechanical pieces of shit these are fine

I've used olympic dumbbell handles and plates for 2 years now, and I'm considering selling everything to buy a pair of Nuobells. The ability to quickly switch weights cannot be understated. It's so fricking annoying to have to remove all the plates from the handles just to take off the plates at the center, then put everything back on.

Nüobell if you want to shell out for them. 5-80lb adjustable.

Gonna echo the Ironmaster recommendation above. I’ve had regular Amazon tier screw-ons, powerblocks, and now IMs. They’re the most solid (no rattle), can go higher in weight than you’ll ever need, and unlike the powerblocks they FEEL like normal dbs. Well worth the cash.

      What about ironmaster vs nuobells?

        Anonymous

Not familiar with those at all, but maybe it’s more preference at that point. I go above 80lb with things like rows and prefer the option of 2.5lb increments. IMO the max being 165lb wins over the IMs for me due to being future-proof. It’s like having a whole rack of dbs.

Ironmaster is more solid (no rattle) than Nuobell
IM can go twice as heavy
Nuobell adjusts in 5 lb increments, IM adjusts in 2.5 lb increments w/ the micro plates

BUT Nuobell is SO much faster and easier to adjust, and that's honestly SUCH an underrated aspect of asjustable DB's.
I'd get Nuobell if 5-80 is enough weight for you. But if you're regularly using 90-100+ lb DB's, get IM.

        >Bowflex

They're a hell of a lot more convenient than picrel that every frickin wannabe seems to have, and an okay value, but yeah I hate Bowflex too

Just check amazon for adjustable dumbbells. They have ones just like the Bowflex, go up to 55 lbs for half the price because they're off-brand. Your muscles don't care about the brand. They don't care if you're lifting a bag of shit or a dumbbell. Don't spend that much for Bowflex.

the bowflex 1090s (10-90lbs) are a miracle for quick weight switching, but the plates aren't completely secure and can get wobbly. not a problem as long as you don't drop them too hard

I have those bow flex ones. Only thing that’s kinda trash is how fricking wide they are.
not unworkable but just frickin annoying. Especially if you’re coming from standard size, traditional metal/rubber dumbbells.

I have either owned or used:

    Powerblock
    Ironmaster
    Spinlocks
    Olympic loadable

Powerblocks are hot garbage nowadays. Mostly all made in china. Plastic parts. Shite. They used to be decent in the 90s but haven't been for a while. Some guy started a lawsuit because his urethane 90s disintegrated or something. Was likely settled out of court and they changed the name of the U90s to something else to avoid the bad press but they're still selling that trash. They are expensive and not worth it. tl'dr SHITE DO NOT BUY

Ironmasters are solid. Great dumbells, not as fast to change as some but faster than spinlocks. These have always been a solid buy and remain so today. Very durable, very safe and reasonably fast to change weight. They are expensive but worth it.

Spinlocks are okay. Very cheap, very safe, annoying to change weight.

Olympic loadables are slightly better than spinlocks IF you get good collars. If you try to use these things with cheap collars you'll end up in hospital. They are cheap and a bit faster to change weight than spinlocks. You can get extremely high quality loadables too e.g stainless steel etc. Something you can't get with other dumbell types.
