I actually love the tonal, it's good for all the moves that you would need a full machine and weight stack to replicate. Lat pulls, cable rows, tris, curls, plus a lot of core/stability stuff (woodchoppers, plank rows etc.).
The weights automatically adjust based on your performance and dial up/down based on where you are strongest in the lift, so you get the most time under tension. I have noticed great results.
The only barbell moves I miss are heavy squats and deads. I'm getting some barbells and bumper plates and will put those in the corner for the big lifts.
That kind of gym is for a rich 55 yr old men who lets his wife frick the pool boy to stay happy.

I'm 34 and don't have a gf let alone a wife (I post on IST after all)
Still have to redo my cables (I want to use swaged eyelets because the bolt-on clamps have to be re-tightened pretty much every week and fray) and looking for a pair of 100lb plates because I'm about to outgrow the weights I have.
Can't wait to move out of this apartment. I want to make a separate cable stack and some stall bars.
For true indoor training, you’ll want to slap an indoor trainer on your bike and use Zwift.
Peloton has been great for maintaining fitness as it’s easy to get on and knock out a sprint/tabata workout. It also has power output training which is great, as you can train to your wattage output levels just like you would with a pro indoor trainer.
Why have a home gym when you could just use the sidewalk with a bicycle right outside? Or does your neighborhood not have sidewalks like mine. You should be thankful you live in mutt merica and can actually have space to walk. Where I live cars try to run me over.
I do road bike quite a bit, but it’s 105 degrees here right now. The Pelo is just easier to hop on for 20-30 min of conditioning first thing in the morning while my coffee brews. Plus I like the music 😉
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I can get a Saris H3 for about 900 CAD. Or a Kickr Bike for $4k which is a lot more expensive but a lot more performance. I'm up in the air. I guess I have a couple months.
I mean yea I guess, but can't you just wake up at 8am and go ride. Here I can't ride a bike because there's no sidewalks, I can't even wake up early and waste gas to drive and exercise at my closest park because theres cops there and you can't go before sunset. This is in texas btw. I was threatened by a cop he said he would give me a ticket but he was feeling "generous".
Snow/heat and here in the British Columbia interior there's a fair amount of smoke a few months a year which makes breathing and thus training difficult.
I am in Texas too. I have sidewalks in my neighborhood plus some nice trails through the woods. It’s fine for pleasure riding, but I’m not going to get a workout unless I drive 30m to the hills.
I use my road bike for long 30+ mile rides on the weekend though, which are kino.

Anon, all you need now is the prostitute of a wife to complete the set. I believe in you, after all you're using a tonal.
What's that Orwellian wall thing?

Wow that's the gayest thing about Texas I've ever heard.
