I remember reading somewhere that the skinniest state today (Colorado) is fatter than the fattest state in the 90s (Mississippi I think).

It's not just the deep south, the whole country is lost. The UK is arguably worse than America and the rest of Europe is only a decade behind.

Says more about you than the US. Why do you only watch food videos of american food? Theres travel videos of all the national parks. Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Niagara falls, and so on. Theres Atlantic city and Las Vegas, neither of which are state capitals but those are the only two big gambling cities. There disney in California and florida. Theres the alamo in texas.

Then you have to consider that each region has their own food culture which is historical. Wyoming doesnt have clam chowder and lobster and other seafood like Maine. Wisconsin doesnt have cajun like Louisiana. Kansas and Texas have their own BBQ cultures from the times of the German immigrant cowboys. You go to England, it's all the same food. Scotland is scotch and haggis. Only the french and Italians have a varied and good cuisine.

I’d say it’s cause of portions sizes, moronation, and the lack of physical activity. We’re too busy sitting on our asses watching TV—or otherwise gluing our face to a screen—or are forced to because of wageslaving. People here don’t look at the ingredients of what they’re eating, or even how much is considered a single serving (an example is Classic Lays Chips having a serving size of ~8 chips); I’d say the snacking is also really bad with the kinds of snacks we prefer. the moronation I’m referring to is mostly concerning that last point, with people not bothering to even look at the ingredients and nutritional information. Obviously when you eat too much and don’t do anything physical you’re gonna get fat, and when these fatasses decide to have children and feed their kids the same slop, you normalize it.

As someone who moved from US to Europe I have noticed there are a few main reasons and combining them makes it obvious.

      1. People drive everywhere and have to do very minimal walking to get anywhere, so Europeans can easily be walking 30 min-hour more a day just because they have to. (This can account for 200-500 extra calories burned a day).

      2. Portion sizes in restaurants can be huge as well as different types of “filler food”, cause a meal in a restaurant to be higher calories. In America it’s easy to go out and order a meal that is 1500 calories as it will be a big portion size, and for example the “filler” may be some cheap carbs covered in some fatty oils, where in Europe they size will be smaller and the “filler” may just be some carb with some seasoning. The choice of using more oils instead of seasoning can cause the food to be a lot higher calorie.

      3. Higher calorie quick foods in grocery stores. In Europe and America if you are buying and cooking your own food obviously it’s very much the same, but I’d you get some pre-prepared food/frozen food often in Europe the meal will be 200-500 calories even if it’s good sized meal, where in America there will be foods that are easily 400-800 calories.

      4. Some bad regional cuisines, blacks and southerners often put excessive amounts of butter, salt, and sugar in their foods.

      5. Food is relatively cheap to salaries, because of mass GMO, farming subsidies, and price regulations on certain goods, food is relatively cheap especially certain higher calorie foods, which make even poor people have access to large quantities of food.

      6. Snacking culture, many Americans eat snacks inbetween meals, for some this is no problem because they eat some healthy low calorie snacks, but a bag or chips can easily be 700 calories.

Add just a few of these behaviors to some people and they quickly become overweight.

Further there is a problem of fixing this problem because “fitness” has largely become a subculture and all active things are classified into “fitness”.

So you will notice that many people in America are in great shape who are into fitness, you lack more “normal” people, it’s easier to find someone very out of shape or someone in great shape than it is to find someone in moderately good shape.

The issue is because people view all active things as some type of fitness now. In the 80s some people would go roller skating with their friends after school, no one thought of this as “working out” or being fit. It was just something you did, likewise in that time you had many people doing physically active hobbies and activities and they didn’t view it as much as “fitness”. At the same time there was a fitness craze and working out was a cool and glorified activity. Unfortunately this slowly started to decline, and the steroid scandal in baseball was the nail in the coffin.

Interesting to think that "fitness" culture simultaneously helps explain the superlatively good health of 10% of the population and the absolute lard status of the other 90%

            Anonymous

The fitness culture difference is visible to many Europeans. I have met many who say they like how in America there is a lot more of a community around fitness and it’s more of a specific subculture. However they often don’t see the downside of that, in that the fatties will have resentment towards the fit. So while fit people may feel to be as more of having a “community” they are then more
            ostracized by fatties.

All of this is correct. To expand on the car thing a bit, our communities are absolutely not designed to be walkable. There are residential areas with lots of houses and the nearest store is 5 miles away. Factories and offices are even further away so owning a car or using public transit becomes a necessity. My friend from Chicago, which is a relatively walkable city, remarked right away that Cleveland, which is a lot less walkable and where most people commute in from the suburbs, you see a way higher percentage of ham engines trundling around

          Anonymous

          >muh walkable cities meme
In europe you can walk 10 minutes and be in a different town. This is because of population density. Europe has too many people for everyone to own land or use the roads. China has this same problem, except their solution is to restrict who's allowed to drive on what days and even whos allowed to get a license to begin with. Consider that a chinese city, just one city, has a larger population than the entire state of Texas. To contrast, if you've ever been to New York city you know that there are people everywhere all the time. Imagine their population tripled. That's what it's like living in china. Consider New York city again and the surrounding areas, that's what all of Europe is like. Too many people, not enough space. You have to stack people on top of each other and fill trains and subways to get people around.

This is not a problem in the vast majority of the US. Theres plenty of space available for land owners and farmers. Consider the french vineyards. Theres literally not enough space left in france for more vineyards, so if you want to grow wine grapes in france you have to be Elon musk or wait for someone to die and inherit it. In the US, you can still buy land for grapes in California of all places. Texas has a rising wine industry, as does washington, oregon, even New York state.

Tl;dr: european cities are built that way out of necessity. They have no choice. Theres plenty of land and money for everyone in the US to own land and a large house which costs less than renting in an apartment.

Most European commutes are by car anyway.

              Anonymous

Sure, but a lot of those yuropean commuters will drive for commuting because it's the most practical way to get to work and then walk/use public transport for everything else. One of my friends lives in the middle of Londonistan and drives due to constantly working at different locations (he's an electrician), but if he isn't going to work or travelling, he'll walk or use the tube.

Then you get situations where people will drive to work, but might walk places on their lunch break. At my last job everyone but me drove to the office, but about half the people there would either walk somewhere to get lunch, or would drive partway to save time and then walk around the high street. This was in a small town as well, not some large metropolitan area. There's no way you could do that in the majority of America, as most places are designed to be driven to and from.

For a lot of Europe, even if you have to drive to a location due to the distance or lack of decent public transport, it's possible to park up and then walk the rest of the way. You can drive to some random town in France, find a parking space, and then not use your car for the rest of the day as you go around shopping/sightseeing/etc. whereas it's clear that isn't encouraged in large parts of the US.

Poor people here have less social services and stuff.

Also our education system is a lot worse. The average French 18 year old makes better decisions than the average American 18 year old.

A lot of employed white people I know have to pay for rounds of fertilization treatments. Poor people get pregnant at 21 and have 7 kids. The cycle continues with rare exceptions.

It's hard to get this large group of people to have foresight into making decisions involving long term things like health or finances.

My wife is an addiction therapist. She says a family history of addiction is a big factor, and poverty is almost as sure a red flag.

People have already covered all the obvious stuff, but I think stress is also a huge factor.

The average American is a hormonal disaster.
      >stressful job
      >family stresses
      >continual distraction in the form of tv, phone, etc.
      >insane caffeine abuse (mondo energy drinks and 3x caffeine lattes)
      >no time in nature
      >shitty sleep
      >no quality time with family/community

This itself won’t make you fat, but it definitely makes it much easier to compulsively overeat all the alluring slop that surrounds you.

There are factors like cars, but the biggest thing is that food in America, for most people, is a product that they buy, not something that they make with ingredients. Prepackaged foods, microwavable or bakeable premade food, and of course fast food are the core staples of the average American diet. On any given day about 40% of american adults are eating a fast food meal. When americans DO eat a home cooked meal, very rarely is it ACTUALLY a home cooked meal - most often it will be an assortment of premade dishes like pic related bought in the frozen section of their grocery store. On top of fastfood, an American family will probably go to a chain restaurant for a meal twice a week. When eating at home and not having a "home cooked" meal, an american will usually do little more than snack on oreos or chips, or eat thick servings of corn syrup filled peanut butter between slices of white bread.

Americans just don't actually cook, and the ones that say they do usually aren't really cooking most of the time.

Outside of like 5 cities driving is nearly essential to getting from place to place. Like even within a shopping center there won't be a sidewalk between stores, just an enormous parking lot. There's such a distance between everything and so few sidewalks walking and biking isn't practical. It can reasonably take 10-15 minutes just to drive out of your subdivision, at which point there's still not anything around. So a basic life could be 30 minutes drive to a grocery store, 30 minutes drive to work, 30 minutes drive to major store, etc. That makes something like biking just not practical

Murica is kind of the peak of instant gratification culture. People would rather get their food as fast as possible over something more nutritious. Couple that with poor education about food/health; which is emphasized in the poorer southern states. On top of all that America cities are designed with cars first over foot traffic so passive exercise isn't really a thing.

America has been excessively well fed and wealthy for longer than every other country. As others have said, other countries are catching up and fast. As wealth increases and food becomes a lower and lower percentage of monthly expenditures, people buy more and more food and exercise less.

There are, of course, mitigating factors like a dearth of car infrastructure forcing people to walk in certain countries, or a general culture around frugal eating, but by and large obesity is becoming a global plague. Hopefully the oncoming famine later this year/next year fixes that and we all go on the Maduro Diet.

It's not 1 factor, is the general lifestyle of disgusting obesity. This is not a /misc/ post, but pieces of it may seem that way:
      > General aversion to walking. Walking in ANY capacity is looked down upon. Drive or be driven everywhere
      > Food is meant to be eaten rapidly, and not enjoyed, meal times are a corporate inconvenience, and so rapidly prepared food is best
      > Gag laws prevent food processing from being transparent, it's almost all corn syrup
      > pop culture holds Black person music as the highest tier of sexy. Body's like Cardi B and Meg Thee Stallion are the sex icons, old sex icons like Paris Hilton or Megan Fox are seen as skinny twigs with no ass
      > incentives to achieve a fit body are reducing in stock. The massive LGBTQIGZ+ movement says that ANY body, no matter how repulsive, is equally as attractive as any other body and saying different is racism. Or any other ism, ablism, sexism, etc.

So the recipe is: worse food, easier to gain weight, no penalties for getting fat, cultural acceptance or praise for fat, and demonization of fitness as hatespeech.

Dont worry. Lots of new Yorkers and californians have been moving to texas. They dont move to the country side, where the counties are red. They move to Austin, which is already blue. Austin's already fricked idc if 10 million commiefornians and israelite Yorkers move to Austin. It wouldnt change anything

New TX residents voted more Red than native-borne Texans. Stop coping and scapegoating. It's your own hispanics that are turning the state blue.

And why is that the case? Is there some polite lie that Americans would rather waste trillions on a societal level and tens-hundreds of thousands of dollars at a personal level than acknowledge?

No that's yuropoor propaganda. It's because when you zoom in on a map in europe you see hundreds of little towns and large cities filled with millions of people. You zoom in somewhere west of the mississippi river in the US, you see a few towns and lots of wilderness where large cities are rare. Pic related.

This applies to the majority of US states. Here's Ireland. As you can see many towns and cities all very close together. There's even more in between these if you zoom in further.

Then there's Ireland if it was Utah. It's empty. Why would you spend 10 trillion dollars fitting an empty state with passenger rail? Is this China? What's more, Utah is 2.6 times larger than ireland. Ireland is 84,000 km/2, Utah is 219,000. Imagine fitting almost 3 irelands worth of land with passenger rail nobody will use.

Now take a look at this place. This is part of the North Eastern region of the US. Look at all those people. Look how close together they are. New York City alone has 10 million. Look at all that intercity travel they'd do. Commuters from New Jersey to New York, gamblers to Atlantic city, businessmen and politicians between Philadelphia/New York/ and Washington DC. Lots of car traffic here I imagine. Wouldn't trains be good here? Oh that's right, they all have trains.

I think its hilarious that you consider densely populated coastal regions with a crumbling railway network that goes in like 3 directions to be proof americas infrastructure is good enough.

In america trains are dindu delivery systems. A lot of stuff Euros have americans don't because it means spending money on shit that will be used by and fricked with by Black folk. Everything americans do that seems weird is a by product of being forced to live with Black folk and spending 60 years trying to avoid it by any means possible while the system does everything it can to override it.

One thing you shouldn't do is overestimate European trains. It's good they exist, but they are very expensive and they are only good if your route does not make you change trains.

            Anonymous

No it's that America is fricking huge and generally not dense. Loads of people choose to live in suburban to rural areas to have lots of space and because it's cheaper and the tradeoff is being far from everything else.

You're correct but I still worry how they can effect the popular vote like that other anon said. Rural Texas still has hope but the cities are damned hellholes that I despise going to.

Based. I'm in the carolinas and can see a pretty big split occurring among young guys (16-25) once they become college age. Either:
      A) They go to college and get indoctrinated. They then either become really skinny or really fat, some become trannies, general leftoid degeneracy etc.
      B) They discover fitness and continue to work at their body. These guys usually either played sports in high school or they were incels and got motivated to start working out. Obviously these guys tend to be more conservative.

Hopefully simple darwinism will take care of group a, and group b will continue to succeed. Once shit starts hitting the fan around here, there is a large population of fit, young men ready to mobilize.

Worked in all 50 states, with a lot of time in the South. The South seemed no fatter than anywhere else, plus they still have skinny meth heads. Keep telling yourselves it's just a Southern thing or an Amerishart thing. Fattest people I ever laid eyes on were in rural Maine. There is no escape. Also, Europe has tons of fatties. They must lie on these surveys. Manchester, Barcelona, Berlin and fricking Amsterdam of all places were crawling with fatties. Maybe not as fat, but definitely with guts, moobs, fupas, and ham necks. We're doomed.
