honestly? i am a fricking alcoholic and i still make gains. i havent really experienced it stopping protein synthesis or lowering my test. it bloats the FRICK out of you though so any gains are just hidden by fat and water bloat.
mind you im not in my 30s yet so my day will come. i give up drink and i look so much better it’s unreal. boy i need a cold beer. just one beer.

it's a diuretic that forces you to flush nutrients, causing you to not get the most from what you eat or drink. Not a big deal in small doses but if you got a habit it'll definitely drag you. I use to be a IST alcoholic. When I stopped drinking I made gains I didn't think I could make anymore. Went from a 175lb single ohp to 225lb single ohp in six months.

It doesn’t flush nutrients but it flushes electrolytes which leaves you in a perpetually dehydrated state.

my mistake it doesn't -flush- nutrients it just prevents their absorption. You're not getting the full benefit of what you eat if there's booze in your system.

either way anons, enjoy a drink, but know it’s not good for you. it took my addicted brain a long while to realise having 8+litres of beer with shots inbetween daily, and still only being “buzzed” having an itch to scratch isn’t good. thats just my brain chemistry though. never satisfied. i could out-anxiety a lethal dose of heroin man.

a couple of beers a week wont significantly stagnate you, if you dont smoke and generaly hit the gym, sleep and proper food with consistency.
If you are one of these normalgays who relax every evening with a 6 pack of heineken, you are going nowhere.

2 drinks max if you dont want to lose significant gains. also don't drink routinely unless you want to be a doughy basedboy

On weekends I have 1 or 2 drinks when we go out to dinner. Since being really dialed in on my fitness goals, I usually have either vodka or tequila with club soda. I never wake up hungover and it doesn’t impact my gains. Desserts are worse than spirits tbqh.

If you are a weekend drinker, even if you get completely wasted, it shouldn't really have a massive impact. I only drink Fridays and Saturdays and adjust my diet and training accordingly. I can still gain muscle and get shredded, it's just a bit more work and some more discomfort having to power through hangovers and whatever. The impact of shitty sleep, suppressed test production and lowered protein synthesis is probably noticable but, pulling a number out of my ass, probably doesn't reduce gains by more than 5%.

    It’s fuking terrible:
    >calorie dense liquid
    >hangovers, can’t function next day if you overdid it
    >often when drunk and out, you will binge on takeout due to poor judgement

No need to go on, it’s a chit substance. I did enough drinking up to passing out drunk before projectile vomiting. I don’t need it in my life.

You can of course function on it and make gains, but it’s actively disadvantaging yourself.

your body is very good at recovering until you hit like 40, which is why most gym fratbros don't really suffer from the health issues associated with alcoholism until later in life

They inhibit sleep (and thus recovery) and you are not able to train as well the next day. Really depend on how much alcohol and over how many days.

its not that bad. I started making more gains when I started drinking because of the excess calories, though that was just a few beers a night, not alcoholic-level blackout drinking which would probably interfere with recovery significantly. the worst part is worse sleep quality impacting recovery and your ability to push yourself at the gym the next day(if applicable)
